This video was very refreshing to watch. Most favorite movies lists I see, they're either too vague in their reasoning or they go into too much depth thus spoiling the movie and leaving no room for surprises. I really love how you explained in pretty good detail why you enjoyed these films, but still left enough ambiguity for viewers keep interest. This list was very well done.
I'm going around RUclips watching random people's favorite movie lists. It's just fun hearing people talk so passionately about movies they love. This one was very well put together.

Very good list mate. This would be my top 10: 2001: A Space Odyssey Apocalypse Now Boyhood Casablanca Citizen Kane dolce vita, La General, The Late Spring Singin’ in the Rain Vertigo
This is a really fascinating list, not just for showing off love to the greats like Shawshank, Dark Knight and Pulp Fiction but also the unexpected choices. Those are the ones that I think really define your taste in movies. We can praise Blade Runner, Princess Mononoke, Godfather II and Pan's Labyrinth day and night, and I do too they're amazing films. But I love hearing the unexpected and the personal. I love hearing new recommendations for Picnic at Hanging Rock, JFK or A Simple Plan; movies I haven't seen but I'm told are worth seeking out. I adore it when someone loves movies like Magnolia and Pan's Labyrinth as much as I do. I'm even surprised when you love Heat, Last Temptation and Let the Right One In more than I do. It gives me ideas to see them again and form my own ideas. Bottom line, I love this list and will seek out more great movie lists until I can come up with my own Top 20.
+Advent3546 Thanks for the enormous compliment! However, the more I look at this list I still feel like I left out a few notable favorites. I would say what they are, but I think I might hold onto them just in case I wind up making another Top 25 list (hell, maybe Top 50).
Midnight Movie Madness I totally get that. If I make a top 20 I have to pick ones I am absolutely sure are my favorites and I'd still feel like I left some out
It'd be so hard for me to make even a top 20, probably, because there's so many freaking movies I absolutely love. Haha. I've never even heard of Magnolia before, but I'm a huge fan of Cruise. I'd have to add some of the movies you talked about here, though. Not many people add Memento to their list, so I'm really happy you added it. One movie I just watched last night for the first time which I've had probably for months was A Clockwork Orange, which I'm really surprised I didn't see prior to last night. That movie would have to be added as well. Every time I watch any of Nolan's movies I fall in love with them all over again...and that's especially true about Inception. Every time I watch it, I love it as much as the very first time I saw it.
The good the bad and the ugly is my favorite... but this is my top ten and a shit ton of movies that i love: 1. The Good the Bad and the Ugly 2. Braveheart 3. Rocky 4. Reservoir Dogs 5. Goodfellas 6. The Godfather 7. Indiana Jones trilogy 8. The Shawshank Redemption 9. Superbad 10. Back to the future H.M: Gladiator Wolf of Wall Street The Departed Coco Pulp Fiction Deadpool Young guns Drive Casino Catch me if you can Apocalypto First blood The Sandlot Nightcrawler Fight club Happy Gilmore Inglorious Bastards Jaws Seven Ferris Bueller’s day off The Great Dictator The Iron Giant Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory The Pianist

Hey, don't give up on that. You know how it took me to finally do this video? 4 years! 4 freaking years and my list kept on changing and I didn't have any video cameras or anything to film it with. But after all that wait and struggle, I finally got it made and the same thing can happen to you. If you have something that you're really passionate about and really want to do, you go do ahead and do it. Even if it takes you 3 centuries, never give up on your dreams. Hope this was helpful. :)
@@thehostofmmm I admit, I did roll my eyes a few times at the inclusion of things like Batman and Indy, but that's definitely the pretentiousness within me rearing its ugly head. I definitely still enjoy those movies, too! I guess it's just a bummer for me to search for top films lists online and almost always run into obvious picks like those when I'm always hoping to be introduced to more obscure stuff. Having said that, you did include some films on this list that, while I did know about them, I was still delighted to see. Picnic at Hanging Rock is a movie that I thought I hated when I first saw it, but I can't get it out of my head even all this time later. So, I definitely think it's a film I have to revisit soon. And 12 Angry Men is my third favorite movie of all time!

Forgive my language. I don't swear often, but when I do, it's because I really mean it. And I really mean it when I say: Holy shit! You are the first person I've ever come across (in person or via the Internet) with my favourite film in the top 10, let alone the number one spot. I have no idea why Magnolia isn't considered one of the great American movies. If I concentrate hard enough on the scene where the cast sings Aimee Mann's "It's Not Going to Stop", I cry. Not to mention the grand finale with the frogs sends chills down my spine. My heart skipped a beat when I saw it was your number one! Lol. If I'm completely honest though, I'm kinda glad it's underrated. I kind of like to think of it as my own secret masterpiece. Anyway, while there are a number of films I still must see, for now, here's my top 10: 10. Waking Life 9. Punch-Drunk Love 8. Brazil 7. Pan's Labyrinth 6. Her 5. Boyhood (I know it may seem like a bit soon to have this on the list, but I love this film) 4. The Big Lebowski 3. Synecdoche, New York (another fantastic underrated film. You should definitely check it out, if you haven't already) 2. Mulholland Drive 1. Magnolia
+Finn Keating McMahon That's pretty awesome that we both share the same opinion on Magnolia. Wonderful film, need to get it on Blu-Ray soon. As far as your list goes, man you got some great choices; the only one I haven't seen is Waking Life.
Midnight Movie Madness It's fantastic. Easily the most original film I've ever seen. You should definitely check it out. All I'll say is this: don't watch it when you're tired, and there will be moments where you'll become frustrated and want to turn it off, but trust me: if you just keep with it, you'll be really glad you did. I was!
My top favourite movies 25. The last crusade 24. The new hope 23. Return of the Jedi 22. The empire strikes back 21. Walk the line 20. Alien 19. Predator 18. Aliens 17. Kingsman 16. Carter Penny One of the best lists I have seen on RUclips so far. Birdman and Watchmen are criminally underrated masterpieces! Both would definetly be in my Top 10 too.
Christopher Langer I wouldn't go so far as to call Birdman underrated. I mean, it did win Best Picture after all. As far as Watchmen goes, I couldn't agree with you more.

I don't blame you, making a favorite movies list is hard work. I update mine on a yearly basis because I watch movies regularly and opinions change. It's usually the same picks but in different orders. But I'd be interested in seeing an update of your list, you have great taste.

Great list. I need to make one of these videos. Your list is unique that you have a lot of films inthe scifi genre but did not include the first Matrix (1999). I find that interesting especially since you had Nolan's Inception high on your list.
+blackwell008 I guess I'm more of a mystery-wrapped-in-a-riddle-type of movie lover, rather than the philosophical-with-over-the-top-action-thrown-in type lol
I was amazed at how similar mine is to yours 1. Boogie Nights 2. Inglourious Basterds 3. Taxi Driver 4. Pulp Fiction 5. GoodFellas 6. Magnolia 7. 2001: A Space Odyssey 8. The Dark Knight Trilogy 9. Star Wars OT 10. Indiana Jones Series (except Crystal Skull) 11. Inception 12. The Big Lebowski 13. Raging Bull 14. Apocalypse Now 15. The Shining 16. Psycho 17. Up 18. Whiplash 19. This list is the closest I've ever found to my taste. Not that we have the same opinions, but god damn Sunset Blvd, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Eternal Sunshine (my favorite movie ever), and a Kubrick masterpiece as number 1 (he has like 6 of them though). My current top ten, it changes... 10. Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) 9. The Truman Show (1998) 8. The King of Comedy (1982) 7. Amelie (2001) 6. Wild Strawberries (1957) 5. Well, when you compare it to the successes of James Cameron's other works like Aliens, Terminator 2, Titanic and Avatar - it seems to get overshadowed in comparison. Not that it changes it being a great film or anything, just that not enough people have seen it.

Midnight Movie Madness Because I used to be really into late 60s psych and have a better understanding of what a song like that/that one in particular should stand for other than a goddamn "gangster" turning his head in a bar in a supposedly "dramatic scene". I'm not a big fan of gangsters or Scorseses use of pop songs as his film soundtrack, or other filmmakers doing that. Though, I've thought it over and kind of regret that post, should I delete it? I do feel I understand his decision though.

I just watched Magnolia for like the 7th time today and I felt like watching a top favorite movies and I started your video and I said to myself why people never mentionned Magnolia (it's my number 7 fav film) and there you go number one, love it
This video was very refreshing to watch. Most favorite movies lists I see, they're either too vague in their reasoning or they go into too much depth thus spoiling the movie and leaving no room for surprises. I really love how you explained in pretty good detail why you enjoyed these films, but still left enough ambiguity for viewers keep interest. This list was very well done.
gorey
I'm going around RUclips watching random people's favorite movie lists. It's just fun hearing people talk so passionately about movies they love.

Singin’ in the Rain

If I make a top 20 I have to pick ones I am absolutely sure are my favorites and I'd still feel like I left some out
Nice list!
Great number 1 choice. Magnolia is mad underrated.
The good the bad and the ugly is my favorite... but this is my top ten and a shit ton of movies that i love:
1. The Good the Bad and the Ugly
2. Braveheart
3. Rocky

5. Goodfellas

Oh wow, I didn't realize how old this video was. Cool list!
Thanks! I might do an updated version one of these days
Great list, my top 25 are.
25.) Schindler's List (1993)

Anyway, while there are a number of films I still must see, for now, here's my top 10:
10. Waking Life
9. Punch-Drunk Love
8. Brazil
7. Pan's Labyrinth
6. Her
5. Boyhood (I know it may seem like a bit soon to have this on the list, but I love this film)
4. The Big Lebowski
3. Synecdoche, New York (another fantastic underrated film. You should definitely check it out, if you haven't already)
2. Mulholland Drive
I was!
+Finn Keating McMahon Sounds good to me!
You do realize it isn’t that big of a deal curse right? What are u some sort of hardcore Christian lol?
I just saw A Simple Plan and... wow. It was every bit as good as you said it was.

Midnight Movie Madness It did well at the Oscars but didn't get much attention afterwards and is also not on the imdb top 250.
Christopher Langer
Now that is a damn shame.

Great video!! Now that it's 7 years later, are there any movies that came out since this video that you would add to your top 25?
Why yes, of course! One of these days, I do plan on making another list if I can find the time. Probably extend it from 25 to 50.
@@thehostofmmm awesome! I'll be sure to tune into that
This is a cool list. It is always interesting to see the differences in what someone would choose as their best and what I would choose as my best.
I keep thinking about making a new list in the near future, maybe a top 100 list. The more movies I see, the more I have to leave out or change up. Painful process, especially if you're a lover of movies like myself.
Was looking for a list to watch before sleep and yours was just perfect, your voice is so chill and calm and the list was great
I like your list man, here's mine with honorable mentions.
HM: Jurassic Park, Clerks, Kill Bill (both 1 & 2), Disney's Peter Pan, Juno, Slumdog Millionaire, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Whiplash, V for Vendetta, Dazed & Confused, Pirates of The Caribbean: COTBP, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Pan's Labyrinth, Sweeney Todd, WALL-E.

CHSlandonm12 Good choices. Although I've been thinking about changing around my picks and doing a top 100 list but that probably won't come around until much, much later.
I don't blame you, making a favorite movies list is hard work. I update mine on a yearly basis because I watch movies regularly and opinions change. It's usually the same picks but in different orders. But I'd be interested in seeing an update of your list, you have great taste.
CHSlandonm12 Why, thank you :)
gotta be fucking kidding me putting Inception over 12 Angry Men....

Borat... Really?... Borat is your number 2 of all time?... Wow.
I get it, lol. I also appreciate someone who loves 'Pans Labyrinth' as much as I do. :)

Well, when you compare it to the successes of James Cameron's other works like Aliens, Terminator 2, Titanic and Avatar - it seems to get overshadowed in comparison. Not that it changes it being a great film or anything, just that not enough people have seen it.

1m2a3t4t5 What makes you think that?
Midnight Movie Madness
Because I used to be really into late 60s psych and have a better understanding of what a song like that/that one in particular should stand for other than a goddamn "gangster" turning his head in a bar in a supposedly "dramatic scene". I'm not a big fan of gangsters or Scorseses use of pop songs as his film soundtrack, or other filmmakers doing that. Though, I've thought it over and kind of regret that post, should I delete it? I do feel I understand his decision though.
