My husband and I were just there today. We didn’t go quite that far, but went out like you did, right by the road and found beautiful pieces. I’m not sure what it all is. We’re just getting started, but it’s loads if fun. Best part is we live only a couple of hours west on the 10. We probably will head back in cooler weather. It was nice, 85F with a light breeze and slightly overcast. What we found will keep us busy for quite a while.
Trust me we're crazy about agates! There is still plenty in the Hauser bed and potato patch just have to have the time to look Just shows you what is there. So good to see father and son activities together, enjoy this, cherish and worship this time because it goes so fast. I miss my daughters and the time we shared at that age. Bless you both..
We found some rocks we can’t yet identify and didn’t notice you picked up. One type is green with little black specks. They re very eye catching. The other have blackish bottoms with a reddish top and look in the shape of a volcano peak. Do you know what they are?
Yes indeed! If I’m ever down there again someday, I’m definitely going back prepared with the right tools for the geodes....and then spend another day just picking up agates.
@@vugmeister918 my husband and I frequently come here a couple of trips ago found a new spot where the chalcedony is bigger and more amazing than ever if you get down this way again look us up would love show you where we rock hunt here are some pictures of our finds from our last trip I'm hoping it let's me add the pictures if not I'll figure out how to do it tomorrow
great video! That chunk of opal you found at 16:40 is a debitage flake from a Native American flintknapper. Who knows how many thousands of years old it could be. I can tell by the large bulb of percussion on the patinated face. Cool find.
That Hauser sign was installed in 2000. Has lasted pretty well. Can't imagine going out there without maps and a better understanding of what you're doing. Looks as if you enjoyed yourselves. Keep informed about what the wilderness activists are planning in the way of closing down all the collecting areas in the Mojave desert. They are serious and they are sneaky and underhanded.
Haha yes it was certainly an impromptu rock hounding side trip for us. That’s really a shame when a limited group of people get to decide the fate of OUR public lands. Just look up United Nations’ agenda 21 and then it makes sense.

Thanks for posting your adventure VM! I always get excited seeing large areas of gravel to hunt, even if I cannot go search it, just sticks in my brain about another bar to frequent! Great way to spend a free day anytime, even when on vacation!!! Good stuff, have a great week ahead!
Your best chance of finding fire agate if your in that area again is east of the road around the camp ground you past heading to the Houser beds. Also some good 'softball' sized geodes on the east side of the road up the hill a few hundred feet were you see the dirt turn to a greenish color all the way in to the Geode beds. Just a small pick to get many geodes. Good Luck.
Wow, wondering if your vid attracted many to this spot. Was there today & found a couple interesting specimens, but nothing like a lot of what you 2 found. Have you gone back since? I think most of the spots right off the Geode Field Rd. are picked through. Going to have to wait for cooler temperatures to go back out and hike a distance to find a spot that's been touched less. Another idea would be to go out after a couple days of heavy monsoonal rain, as a lot of the top-layer will be washed off. What is odd is as I am hand washing my finds, the soil around some of the agates is green and really tough to take off. Wondering if it's some desert lichen or algae, or just another chemical that has bonded over the stones. Thoughts? (not just on that, but the rest of what I mentioned)
Hi, no, I haven’t been back to this spot because we were on a family vacation before the Covid scare took place. As you may have noticed from my other videos, we are from Washington State. I did show a lot of the background in this video so I’m sure it’s been easy for other rock hounds to zoom in on the location.
@@vugmeister918 or at least this is what I'm hearing from agate collectors that direction... as to where I live...not so much sure on the agates in texas
Great variety! I love the little nodules, but the blueish ones look like common opal. I'm sitting here literally going, aren't you going to notice the Jasper! Beautiful pieces!
Holy 🍯 hole! My eyes were glued to the screen. Wow the variety. Once the word gets out WATCH OUT! Haha I could've spent all day there. Great finds! Great video. Did any of them have the 🔥?
It appears that at least one of the small pieces does have 🔥! I need to upload another video of it and also I’m getting ready to film cutting open some of the geodes we found on the rock saw.
Ha Ha! The word has been out for about 80 years. There is great stuff EVERYwhere there! Drive the trails and look where others have dug, then try a spot or two of your own

I went out to the geode fields last week, hotter than hell out there in augest , we ended up going to j tree to cool down
Those pearly botryoidal agates were beautiful! Did you do anything to them?
Haven’t done anything. They currently reside in a labeled jar.

what you're running into is the same thing there in arizona.... where the area is so saturated with agates... that locals bypass them
