There has been so much talk about these Segway Powersports Super Villains over the last few months but not much concrete information shared. The machines have been making their rounds at various shows and there has been a lot of discussion surrounding them. Finally I managed to get my hands on a pair of them to take a closer look and I’m hoping that this video can give you a little more insight into what Segway Powersports is bringing to the table. Information is still limited but I was able to get a really up close and person look at both machines and here I am sharing it with you. I am not associated with Segway Powersports in any formal way. I have not been told what to say. I have not been paid in any way to make this video. The opinions and views expressed are my own so just take them with a grain of salt and keep an open mind. These are still prototype vehicles and there are still many visible areas that need to be addressed prior to full scale production. There are some statements floating around that these machines could hit dealerships at the end of 2024 but I haven’t seen that formally confirmed anywhere yet. I am hoping we will get a chance to drive and test the non-hybrid model in the next few weeks because I know that what you all want to see.... and what I want to do. For now we have this in depth walk around and overview video. Let’s hear your opinions in the comments. What do you think? Do you like them? Do you hate them? Is there potential? I believe with a nice polish on the finished product they will sell for sure. Now whether they continue to sell will depend on performance and reliability along with price point.
Nice job running through it Julian, you covered about everything I would have looked at if I was to take a magnifying glass to it from one end to the other. I believe there will be a good aftermarket for it from tunes to cages and long travel, etc. All the usual stuff, but being the monster it is, and not being belt driven I have to wonder if there is even an ON ROAD possibility. Lets face it, these things are almost trophy trucks now. If you were to put that power to use on pavement with some lowered suspension and race wheels, the possibilities are endless. Anyway, back on topic.
If there are some good solid numbers and tons of promotion I think they can take off. Just my opinion.

I do indeed. Working on polishing off a nice 2.5 hour edit of one of our recent trail rides as we speak. Hoping I can have it uploaded and posted for Sunday if all works out. Then I have another one almost finished as well that should be up in the next week or two. I've been working hard lining up some bigger projects for this season so that's taken up a bit of my time. Once those are up I'll be starting on the content from our most recent trip to Tennessee. I know it's been a little slow but I appreciate you guys being patient.

I can’t wait either. I have no idea what to expect out of the hybrid model. I’m really eager to see what it feels like and what the power is like. I’m also interested to see how the engine braking feels.

It’s different for sure. It’s an interesting machine. I really can’t wait to try one.
I love the idea and most of the implementation, but the welds on that look pretty bad in some places. In the shot where you have the air filter, the gusset right above it has some pretty janky looking welds. I'm sure they'll hold , it's more just about how they look on such an expensive machine. That being said, I'm not sure my welds are that much better.
I mentioned that as well. It just stood right out to me.
Ya… I didn’t comment on them in the video because I figured it was quite evident they leave a lot to be desired. As I mentioned in a previous comment I don’t understand how they would allow welds like that on a machine that’s supposed to be a show piece. If they can engineer all that other stuff they should be able to find someone who can lay an acceptable mig weld. It’s these little things that concern me sometimes because it’s about attention to detail.
I would guess that these models have been hand built , and the production models I assume will be welded by robots in a factory setting so the welds don’t bother me that much.

Thanks Randy. I did the best I could with the limited info available. I don’t really have a concrete opinion on this machine yet. I see a lot of interesting things and quite a few that will need fine tuning. Right now I’m trying to keep an open mind and I’m excited to see where things go. It’s most definitely a really cool machine and I hope they push the limits with it.
I see some pluses for sure. The alternator and the water pump being automotive external type is easier to replace than internal pumps. The styling is growing on me for sure. The suspension looks very tunable. The frame and A-arms look beefy enough. Cab space looks great............Minuses, the welds look terrible, this is a disturbing trend lately especially for me because I am an X welder of 20 years. I suspect the skids will sufficiently cover the oil filter and exhaust well since they are so low slung. The location of the rear prop shaft will just destroy the engine if it snaps so I see an aftermarket cage comin immediately if not from factory.
As for the reliability of the engine, trans, and hybrid system only time will tell. It is truly a beast of a machine but the devil is in the details so lets see if they step up and deliver a truly polished diamond!
All valid points man. Ya… the welds in some areas are quite disappointing to be honest. You’d think they would put more attention to detail into a machine the know will be scrutinized at shows and online. It’s not that hard to lay a nice weld, not sure why they struggle in areas like this.
I just started watching this channel and also RTPS and loving the content from both. This is one machine that caught my eye and I'm grateful and excited to learn more about this machine and the other ones used on both channel's trail runs. I'm looking for that all around perfect glove that fits our intended use and this, the Villian, RZR, May be Maverick 3 and the good all Commander and Commander MAX are tops on my list. Thanks for helping us sift through all the specs, information, options, sometimes politics and changes on these wonderful machines!

It was only a matter of time until this tech trickled into Powersports. It’s going to be interesting to see where things go from here. Polaris has fully elective UTV’s as well and has for a while, the Hybrid twist really spices things up though.

I agree that the air box could have potentially been placed in a more strategic location but in theory as long as it seals well it should be fine.

Great job Julian on your presentation of the Segway supervillain. I've been analyzing this since a couple years ago when they talked about it. Currently, I have the Segway villain which is awesome I use it for trails. Now I suspect I will buy this unit (non-hybrid) for the dunes..FYI. if you add the torque and horsepower of the super villain and a torque and horsepower of the Maverick R and divided by their weight the numbers are nearly identical and we know how fast the Maverick R is. Plus this machine will only be about $30,000 that is 10 of $15,000 LESS than the nearest competitor! Apple's to apples it is a win-win for the public!! Like you said, once the tuners get involved and aftermarket parts become available, , this unit should able. Able to easily produce 350 horsepower plus gobs and gobs of torque! It's funny how the Segway villain mimics the X3 and the supervillain strongly mimics the Polaris pro R... Curious, while looking at the footage, It looks like the back end has a tailgate? My thoughts are they’re still behind Polaris. Non turbo on pro 225hp. Add turbo like dirt dudes and be above 330. And that engine has proved it self in the slingshot. But again great video. Julian a lot of great in depth information. Now give me Michigan video
I don’t think anyone could argue that logic. There is no way a new brand to the market could honestly be anywhere near an established brand like Polaris or Can-Am overall. It will take years of excellent decision making to get even close to the big guys. The question is can they bring a “comparable” product to the market. Time will tell how these things unfold but I’d say if the production model is close to this and they can get it functioning reliably then it will be fun to watch things unfold.

I don't release as frequent as many of the other creators and the main reason behind it is the fact that I'm very picky with the edits and the production quality. I'm happy to see you appreciate it. As for the RZR Turbo R, awesome machine, proven engine with good track record. However, I agree, if I was gonna go get one right now I would likely go for the Pro R with the big NA 4 cyl. That thing is a monster. With a turbo they make 330+ on a modest tune.
The innovation is there. I can't see me ever getting one. I'd like to get a few more ponies outta my villain. But I don't need 235hp at 76" wide.

brother the armature in the electric motor will basically take the place of the drive shaft and when the battery is to low the electric motor will basically become a generator being powered by the gas engine. one thing for sure with that electric motor its gonna have the most awesome controllable delivery of power / torque you've ever seen witch i would think you guys would love in the rocks it sure looks awesome

I mean, lets call it how it is, there is no doubt they have taken some design cues from the established machines in the market. It would be illogical of them not to. Why reengineer the wheel when someone else already has a proven design.

Ya, that’s a complex situation. I knew this would come up so I’ll briefly touch on the topic. To put it bluntly, Mark Rivers, the previous guy who had distribution for Canada was a snake. To be quite honest, I have no idea who cleared him for that position. Segway Powersports made a big mistake with that as he had quite the track record of similar shady behaviours in the past. However, it seems that things are in better hands now, but there is a lot to correct. That’s just the truth. It can be corrected I believe. With that being said, as I mentioned in the video, I am not formally associated with the inner workings of the brand, my interest lies within the units themselves. Thus far, my dealing with the new team have been quite positive overall. I do however feel bad for all the good people who were affected by the shady behaviours of the previous group who were running things. I don’t really want to get into the politics of it here though. I don’t feel this is the place to address those issues and I am not the person to address them. I try to avoid drama like this at all costs. My focus is promoting the well being of the Powersports industry as a whole which is why I’ve always a done my best stay away from any formal manufacturer affiliation. I do my best to stay as unbiased as possible. Most who know me know that I call it like it is, good or bad. I hate to see anything negative in our industry because to me Powersports are a lifestyle and passion. It’s not just business to me, it’s a way of life.
@@AdrenalineJunkieProd yeah that’s understandable, let’s hope they get the ship in the right direction , they have been getting on top of the issues they been having, just a bummer for my dad cause the intakes on his fugleman warped and he was sucking in dust and dirt for a while and his been waiting since last November for Segway to get back to him to see what they will do, now he had to re submit the claim cause of the new ownership, I hope they do the right thing and accept the claim and do something to fix it

39:46 is what I have been waiting for someone to point out in all of these videos about the Super Villain. SO it does have BOTH, a (electric) park-in-gear AND a hand parking brake. It's has always been either or in the UTV industry. Kawasaki always been hand brake only, and Polaris and Can-Am are park-in-gear. I really like seeing both! I wonder if you have to hit the brake first before shifting because some folks with the new Maverick R are not happy they have to hit the brake to shift from Low to Reverse, when it comes to saving an uphill climb backflip. You can't slam it from one or the other to make a quick decision without hitting the brake, to what I have been told.
I believe you do have to hit the brake. When I was moving it around I noticed it wouldn't shift a few times until I did. Do not quote me on that though. When I get a chance to test drive it in a few weeks I'll make sure to check that properly.
The more I see it the more I like it. The one thing that I have a concern with is the battery placement. You smack a really good rock on a trail and it breaks a skid plate and smack that battery hard enough to damage the battery. I really hope they put a high-quality plate between the battery and the skid plate. Still on the fence about the electric stuff in general. But the regular villain I keep bleeding towards wanting to look at more and more.
These companies hopefully will keep Can am/Polaris ect honest. 330 HP will absolutely rip even if she is a little heavier. My first car had 140 hp. Cool vid man, Give one to Super GREG and let him poor the hog to it lol.
Ya, if it actually puts down the claimed 330 it will be wild. Guess we will have to wait and see what the production models are like and how they hold up in the real world. If it could survive a few rides with Super Greg that would be quite the feat 😂

Sure, I think if it is a reliable system it definitely has a place. It is an easy way to supply loads of extra torque which we all want.

Ya, it’s got a lot of interesting features that we will need to see in use when the production models finally hit the market. It is huge and that will be a limiting factor for many.
I agree, welds are absolutely horrendous for a well known company and such an expensive machine they are trying to introduce into the market. Especially discouraging for allowing it to be a show piece! You really should’ve pointed that out in your video. After all isn’t that the main purpose of this video?

Ya, it’s insanely huge. So is the me Polaris RZR Pro R and the Maverick R. All these machines seem to be hitting more at the dune markets, size wise at least. However, you do see them on the trails also so let’s wait and see how this plays out for Segway Powersports.
Your wish for greaseable U- Joints is unfounded. Non greaseable joints are weak, seeing they are hollow to allow for grease flow. Sealed U- Joints (non greasable) are solid and will outlast greasable joints 2 to 1, due to the fact that contaminants never get into the sealed joint, a greasable joint allows contaminants into the joint the entire time your driving and rely on the owner to constantly purge the contaminants from the joint when it's greased.
I've learned a lot, being in the driveline industry for 40+ years.
Hmmmm. I stand corrected in this case. I appreciate you chiming in about that. I love learning new things like this especially when they are based off legitimate experience. In the case of off-road applications would the most important part of the u-joint be the seal then? I see a lot of seal failures on “generic” u-joints which likely leads to the issue of contamination. Would a solid joint last long even when contaminated or is there no real way to avoid that in this environment? What are the biggest differences between a high quality u-joint and a budget bin joint? Is it literally everything? Or is there a common reason most these joints fail prematurely off-road?
@AdrenalineJunkieProd If you compare the seals, a greaseable joint seal is basically a dust seal, made to purge the contaminants when grease is pumped through the joint. A sealed joint has an actual 3 rib seal that is sealed to the trunion of the cross.
We converted one of our customers (the largest concrete company in the Chicago area) to sealed pto driveline joints on all all their trucks. The joint replacement, on average, went from 2 per year to 1 every 2 years.
The biggest reason for failure is from shock load. A sealed joint is less likely to break because it's solid. We sell and install solid joints in all the racing shafts we build.
We only sell Spicer and Neapco American made joints. Offshore U Joints have terrible tolerance issues, and many times, we can't balance the driveline without replacing the joint with a quality u joint.
Sorry, but I disagree with you. I myself have been an automotive field for 30 plus years and when a u-joint wears out, predominantly it's because of lack of lubrication on the needle bearings. Resulting in failure... U- joint themselves rarely ever break!! (Unless you're applying excessive horsepower per metal medium). So once again, introduction of greasable bearings to keep them from rusting resulting in bearing/cap failure is far superior vrs a solid non-greasable u-joint as far as longevity is concerned....!
@@howarddavis8748 You are free to voice your opinion, but we have been in business 75 years, we repair on average 60 drivelines a week and have done extensive testing with our fleet customers and across the board the sealed U-joints consistently out perform greasable joints 2 to 1 or better.

not sure what I think of the hybrid, or how its going to last in water and mud, I know in the automotive mechanic world the orange wires and looms were taught to never touch unless your trained on them specifically as orange means very high voltage and very dangerous. we wear special insulated gloves to handle them. with a sxs lots of guys like to wrench on there own things. I wonder what this means for those guys. is it still even going to be possible... is it even safe? so many questions seeing this.
You raise some excellent points. The voltage in some of those wires is very high and if they sustained damaged off-road it could lead to some pretty catastrophic results. Only time will tell.
Adding more electronics to a sxs is just ridiculous. Ill never even think about wanting this.
In a year or two, after testing, abusing and improving I may consider trading my turbo s in for one🤔
I feel that i should also add that I hope that they put an absolute beef of a skid plate on it with it being so low. I could see the batteries getting punctured on rocks or logs

I have a Villain and I LOVE it. I have a lot of fun driving it like a sports car on winding desert dirt roads ruclips.net/video/8o9Zspl8Ggk/видео.html but I've been thinking of keeping the Villain but getting a second machine with a real transmission for that kind of sporty driving. I've been looking at the YXZ, but I've wanted to wait and check out the Super Villain before I pull the trigger. The SV is less like a Lotus and more like a muscle car. I dont know which I would be happier with. Your video sure has helped educate me. One thing I notice is that this machine sure seems like it'd be excellent in stock form, while my research is beginning to show that the YXZ needs 8K worth of aftermarket stuff to be awesome (meaning the price in the end will be similar).
The YXZ is a cool and fun machine for mid-high speed aggressive driving. They have proven to be tough with some mods. If you turbo them they become insane. It’s been out for many years and the SV is a new chassis and a new concept. I’m always hesitant with first model years of any vehicle. No matter how well they engineer it there will be growing pains the first few years. It’s just the way things go. But if you like to be the first with something and appreciate a unique machine it would be cool. I can’t wait to see the actual production models. If they are as tough as this one it will be great. I was not able to find any solid info on the transmissions in the SV though. If they are solid and hold together I think they will be cool. If I was buying one as soon as they hit the market I don’t know if I’d get the hybrid or the gas model. With the hybrid there are some added risks obviously. They are however really cool
Machines. Like you mentioned , your villain has worked well so if they can create a similar machine with the SV it will be badass.
Interesting rig. The Chinese sure seem to be pulling their weight in powersports but we shall see how they hold up !
Ya, it's way too soon to tell for this machine. However, the previous model of Segway Villains are doing quite well thus far but it is also a little early to judge that as it's really only been a year or two and sales numbers as far as units are concerned are still low. When you look at other Chinese brands like CFMOTO though, they have the fastest growing market share in the industry, their machines are improving greatly and price point is incredibly competitive.
U ever going to make riding videos anymore
I never stop making riding videos. I have two long videos almost completed. You guys need to realize that making a 2.5 hour riding video takes about 100 hours to edit. Sometimes more. I've got a local ride video coming in the next few days. Then the Crashapalooza 3.0 event video in the next two weeks. Then the next projects is a set of ride videos from our recent trip to TN. I'm a one man show and all of this takes a ton of time. If I made 10 minute videos like a lot of other creators I could easily release 2 or 3 a week like they do. You can't rush certain things.
The hybrid weighs almost 3k pounds. Insurance cost is going to be through the roof on it.
I couldn't find an official weight on it but have seen 3000+ in a lot of places like you mention. I have no idea how its going to classify for insurance. I would assume it should be similar to the RZR Pro R and Maverick R. I have no idea how the insurance companies decide classifications or costs for these vehicles.
I heard 2800 pounds for the hybrid which is crazy. That's big safety concerns on the cage construction if it roles. I will pass.
@@concernedcitizen9373 the OD of the tubing is larger than other manufacturers. I’m sure they had to factor that in. But ya, the added mass is def something to consider. It can add stability in certain scenarios too though. I’m not arguing for or against anything. More or less just throwing variables into the mix. I think it’s an interesting machine and I’m interested to see where things go from here.

Ya, I've heard the statements of the Super Villain hitting dealers end of 2024. I just don't really want to hold my breath. Who knows how many units it will be. Who knows if they will make the deadline or not. I didn't want to include any dates in the video for that reason. We've all heard deadlines many times in the past and they just get shifted due to "unforeseeable events" coughcoughcoughSPEEDUTVcoughcoughcough, lol.
It’s a Polaris knock off I just rebuilt a 1000 Segway and I have done my Polaris 1000 I put Polaris pistons in the rebuilt engine and uses all oem Polaris gaskets on the head and cylinders so
The welds look terrible. I hope the production models have better looking welds.
Ya man, they really do. I can't say I was shocked but I just don't really understand why they are as bad as they are. On a prototype you would think they would put a bit more attention to detail. The point of these machines is to travel from place to place to build hype, naturally they will be picked apart. It's not that hard to lay a decent mig weld...... They managed to pull off some pretty good engineering in other areas yet they let welds like this slide... I dunno. I have no idea why.
They prolly werent welded by humans lol😅
330hp tells us atleast it isnt driven by a "rubber brand" but then says shocks arent walker evans or fox, their k man a chinese brand🤣🤣🤣🤣 yet pro r with a supercharger is 550hp belt seems to do just fine

I might be in the minority here, but I am not liking the direction Segway is going. Too big..........too heavy. I prefer small, simple and light weight, and for those reasons..........I'm out.
This machine is a statement. It's them showing what they can accomplish. When you look at the other models they have on the market both SXS's and ATV's they have taken a much more realistic and rational approach.

Ya, it’s a lot of info to cover on a new machine that no one has really gone in depth on. I understand it’s not an incredibly practical machine and who knows how they will do. It is a cool unit though which is why I thought it was worth putting together an in depth video. I know this won’t appeal to everyone and I don’t think I’d trade in my rzr turbo for one either but I would love to try one out. At 76 inches wide it would struggle fitting down most our local trails.

Don't know where you from but already see lots of Segways where we ride and this Villain is as mean as they come. Don't be so sure to disregard what you don't know much about. The entire fleet are some fast well built machines !
