Toni Morrison transcends the label "writer" she is an excavator of souls- revivifier of damaged psyches, voice of the voiceless and a lover and chronicler of the hearts,minds and lived experiences of specifically Black people and elevator of ALL people. There was the me before encountering Toni Morrison and the freedom she gave my soul to expand after reading her magic. Her writing did more for me than any psychologist- her work was alchemy for my pain and trauma and a pathway to flight- to freedom. Thank yu for sharing your immense gift-a once in a lifetime talent. Rest in Power
Song of Solomon, Song of Solomon, Song of Solomon. I typed up that passage read by Oprah 20 years ago---I have it in all of my journals. Also the Pastors sort of wedding proclamation about love from Paradise. I cry, good, gobby, sloppy tears of gratitude for the times I met Ms. Morrison, for her books in my life, in my writing career and I offer Pilate from from Song of Solomon at her grandbaby's funeral which shatters me every time, rocks me, cracks me, stuns me, teaches me how to write and I've read and taught it dozens, hundreds of times..."AND SHE WAS LOVED!!"

Not really. That is a ploy. Too easy. The gaze! Bah humbug. The problem is that as human beings we have an equal capacity for good or for evil. We choose, too often, poorly. It is, life is as Chloe Anthony Wofford aka Toni Morrison said to us, “It’s in our hands.”
