      It would actually be an interesting experiment to see how Queen #5 can live out as unfertilized queen in the long term.
      Can she survive if you keep feeding her?
      Will her biological clock cause her to pass?
      Will she stop laying eggs and allow the colony to reach critical mass?

    • @someguy3766
      @someguy3766 3 года назад +12

      About colony 5 - please keep them! I think it's really interesting to see a male-only colony develop... even if they don't develop much without workers, lol. Plus I think it's nice to give this queen a chance she never would have had in the wild. Think of it as another experiment in ant-keeping. :)

    So for the infertile queen I have a small idea I believe I have heard that some people would chill a ant colony and a new queen and that when the would be warmed up again they accept the queen thinking her as there own so maybe you could either borrow some from your other colonys or buy some generic ant far with workers if they still do that.

      Such a good question. I imagine it might be species dependent. This cricket lives underground. Perhaps not as many parasites exist down there so he's a safer bet?
      I'd really love to see Mikey branch out and collab with insect and ecosystem experts and educators in years to come. We have a thirst to learn more and speaking for myself, it would instill the confidence I lost a few weeks back when he pit different colonies against each other.
