I Fed My Ant Colony a Dead Mouse

- Опубликовано: 7 сен 2024
- My marauder ant colony, named the Leviathans, living in their great rock sea monster ant terrarium, is getting huge, and therefore require much more food. This is why I felt the ant colony was ready to consume an entire dead adult mouse, food rejected by my python. It would be a feast for the ants but I was not prepared to see how epic the process of eating the mouse was going to be. Hope you enjoy this week's ant feeding episode! Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

I still think we should call the nesting area of this tank "the belly of the beast". It's both the deepest section of the tank, attached to the Leviathan's mouth, and where food is dragged in to be digested.
That makes SO MUCH SENSE.

I believe from 2:04 to 2:08 if you look at the bottom left path you can see the queen move. There is at least a very large number of the ants moving in a giant cluster and a very large gaster can be seen. It is possible that it's a super major, but I believe this was the queen.
I think that is! Nice catch!
pretty sure it is a super major, the workers tend to hop on them for a ride
@@JackyIrony that is the cutest thing ive heard today, omg
just said the same thing
Agreed queen confirmed
I would love to see a time lapse of the food being consumed.
It's great that you can share these natural processes that are not usually seen to us. I've learnt a lot from your videos!
It is an honour to do it. Thank you for watching! Ant love forever!
@@AntsCanadayes, it's so timely and important right now, with so many ecological crises looming. The more people out there helping others to appreciate and value nature, the better!
I like the name "The Beast Below" referring both to the sea leviathan and the best of a colony below ground.
Reminds me of that one doctor who episode too
I said to myself: Looking at their previous feeding frenzies I'd expect them to take a day or 2, but I wouldn't be surprised if the colony has grown big enough to devour the whole thing overnight. I was right🤣🤣
True😅
I guessed a week
Not sure if you've done it yet.
But it would be really interesting to see how these ants react to having multiple food items of various qualities available at once to see what they prefer and how they go about collecting it. (Like a roach, pinky mouse, and piece of fish)
Maybe they take the lower quality meal thats closer to the nest first, then collect the higher quality thats further away?
Perhaps they'll pass on the low quality food for the higher quality despite the having to travel farther?
EDIT!!!!: Prioritization! Thats the word I was searching for!! What do the ants prioritize? Ease of access or quality of nutrients??
Bro, just genuinely love your content over these years. It’s obvious you put in massive amounts of care and love in what you do and it shows. Glad to see where you are now and hopefully see you get better and better which each video! Wish you and the ants the best of health.

You asked what you should feed them next. I'd love to see them eat some sort of deceased bird, specifically a full-grown one so that we can see how they deal with feathers. You've mentioned knowing pet store owners before, so maybe you could get something like that from them?
Noted.

I like the symbolism of the Leviathan being the guardian of the ants who are know for their long twisty trails, the word Leviathan comes from the Hebrew Livyatan, which comes from a root that means “to twist, turn, wind, or coil.” Very beautiful symbolism
I love how you always clarify terms for new people.

I remember I was 8 years old when I started watching you. Now I’m 13. I would watch in amazement as the ants ran around. I caught a queen 2 years ago and she had some larvae but unfortunately died because of me getting a little to excited and checking up on her too often. The year after I was busy and gone a lot and I didn’t feel like I could care for her and a colony. This year I have plenty of time and I am waiting for flights so I can actually get to raise one.
i personally used to hate ants but after watching his videos for a while i began to see haw amazing ands really were and how much they can grow. Can anyone else relate to this?
still hate them but theyre pretty cool
i ueus to think that ants were boring but when i got this ant terrarium they blod my mind
good for you.
Same with any bug, cool unless they are in my house then they go bye bye

Before I found your channel years ago I hated ants bc I'm allergic glad I found you and stuck around to see all these colony's grow
I think it will take less than a day for them to devour it (from the point when they reach the mouse). Judging from their exponential number growth I think they won't take much time to dismantle it.
I would call the terrarium Tiamat after the Sumerian serpent Goddess who lives under the water. The colony looks great, and I thought they would take one day to finish with the mouse. Pretty cool.🖤🇨🇦

I would really love to see you feed a bird to ants, it would be fascinating to see how they remove the feathers from the carcass as they feed! A non-animal food item that might be enjoyable as well could be a hard-boiled egg with the shell on (though cracked) as it would be fascinating to see ants peeling back the shell and hollowing it out!
Ngl that egg got my brain tingling
NOOO NOT BIRDS:( BIRDS ARE TOO CUTE TO BE KILLED AND FED :((
I have a very important question for you @antsCanada go further to see the question
How is it with the fungus termites we did not see them for a long time can u post them a video plss
i really like the way youve been building these new tarreriums with the nest and out world being sepperated but still giving ants the opportunaty to dig
wow what a journey the leviathans have gone through they gotten our love and support since the beggining of them
This colony have grown a lot with only one queen in only three months.
I read the title as adult MOOSE and got fucken dumbfounded by both how you would have gotten a Moose and how the ants would eat it
Haha, that's funny
This reminds me of the combined effort I witnessed last summer. Ants and wasps working together on one dead juvenile mouse one of our cats brought home but didn't eat. Fascinating af😮
Great video! Would love an update on the termites at some point if they're still around!
Fun fact, some people like me instead of calling leviathans monsters we call them defenders of the ocean. So I was thinking would the leviathans be sea monsters or defenders? Love your channel! For something to feed the ants when their bigger, how about a monitor lizard, a very large/ sometimes small species and they look very good! #antloveforever!
👋 its been so long...so so so so so long. Since the fire nation was just a fire village XD
The thing I love about ants is there determination they will do anything for food even if it's dead or alive
Great video as always. I'll stop on my walks to watch a active ant hill every now and then. I still remember watching ants carrying a dead spider back. Stuff like that sticks with you.
These videos just keep getting better!
one of those science class dissection bullfrogs laying on its back like in the classroom would be wild
I would have LOVED to have learned from you as a little girl always trying to dig up queen ants by making dents beside a sun-baked pathway, where my neighbor walked by and told me the hard truth “you ain’t gonna find any queen ants like this”. But now my little kids LOVE watching your videos every week and we have found many queen ants after their nuptial flights!! Thanks so much for sharing your ant love to millions of ants and humans!!
Hey man, could you show us how the termites are doing, we haven't seen them in a long while and many people are wondering how they are.

I absolutely love your channel. It talks about how ants expand their home and how they feed basically everything and I absolutely love ants because of you because I love how organized they are in the teamwork they do to do certain tasks I hope you read this
Hello guys today im going to be showing you all my dream video idea! Feeding my ants a human carcass!😊
Please feed your ants a living human body please. For educational purposes
WHAT THE FU
Man that's GROSS TO FEED MICE TO ANTS
Don't talk daft it's a dead mouse do you think they wouldn't eat it in the wild to them its food
"Face, ears, eyes...and such. "
*Me alone in my house -"THEYRE EATING ITS BUTTHOLE"
Can you please just do an update on the termites already
P.S: 2:05 QUEEN QUEEN QUEEN
in the bottom right??
Also 4:08 I think
At 4:06 you can see her going through one of the tunnels and I know that because the abdomen of the queen looked exactly like the abdomen of that ant
That guy: AC fam...Where's my baseball??
I read the title as you fed your ant colony an adult Moose 🤣 I was like Hold up-What?? Lol
The Belly of the Beast appears to be the most accurate, due to the tank itself.
Mice are my favorite animal, but I do find it fascinating that ants will go after anything for food. Plus, many insects and animals will eat carcasses, it's a part of nature.
I love updates on the Leviathans, but when are we going to hear updates on the other colonies?
Little did we all know the ants have been performing rituals and thinking AC is the God that brings them food as a result of those rituals. Like humans dancing and praying for good weather and crops. Lol😂
I seen a video the other day of some ants that actually farm fungi for food. Pretty amazing
The musical selections in this video are absolutely perfect.
with the amount these ants come out, you can tell they love doing what they have engraved in their instinct.
Feed them lower on the terrarium to make them work more for their meal. Give them some seeds for then to carry; feed them a fish bigger than the mouse.
9:09 i think that even if they dont bring it back, the major pulling helps dissect the mouse. even if he cant rip the limb off the extra tension will make it easier for other ants to sever.
You’re literally the best narrator I’ve heard
I caught my first queens. 3 camponotus Modoc or Herculanus not sure which yet. They all layed eggs about 2 days ago
2:13 that was the queen ant
I love how you can hear the passion in his voice
It might be interesting to put up a "moon" light. They must go out all nights, not just the darkest of dark.
imagine you are walking around and you see a dead adult mouse swarmed with ants
You know you should try feeding them other insects like a house fly because when I was little i used to feed an ant colony near my home.i used to come out and feed them houseflys and they loved it
Rest in peace Remy, you will be missed.😢
damn i thought it would take 4 days but when he said that he was surprised the next morning i already knew i was completely wrong
I love these videos AntsCanada, but I dont know if its that I havent had my coffee yet but I read the title as "I Fed My Ant Colony an Adult Moose" and freaked out at the thought of such an insane situation lol
I dont know if I am the only one who saw it, but it looks like you can see the queen at about 2:05 before he pans up. Maybe, idk, just looked like a massive ant, and definally not a major.
I would like to see how the ants would fair against something like a wolf spider, I think it would be cool to see the majors fighting the spider!
Idea for marauder naration (ya know, when you narrate an ant like its a book) the lights of the sea creature could each house the spirit of a deceased queen. Just thought of it
Wow!!!! I was totally wrong!!! I guessed it would take atleast a day, i haven’t watched the pinky video yet but i also am a somewhat relative newcomer to your channel but have been binge watching all the playlists!!! lol that was AMAZING!!!! They’re so efficient! I had no idea they were this efficient at cleaning animals, I collect bones and I know beetles are typically used to clean carcasses quickly, usually stripping a skeleton in a few hours depending on size but that’s usually after most of the flesh has been removed to help make it as fast as possible, but I had no idea ants could strip an entire intact mouse carcass in less than 12 hours, sure there’s still a bit left but that’s INCREDIBLE!!!!! Just wow, thank you for teaching me something new! ❤
i vote for chaosstripes idea belly of the beast sounds cool
this is by far my fav tank you have done, fantastic!
Thanks for watching! #AntLoveForever
