I Fed My Ant Colony a Dead Mouse

  • My marauder ant colony, named the Leviathans, living in their great rock sea monster ant terrarium, is getting huge, and therefore require much more food. This is why I felt the ant colony was ready to consume an entire dead adult mouse, food rejected by my python. It would be a feast for the ants but I was not prepared to see how epic the process of eating the mouse was going to be. Hope you enjoy this week's ant feeding episode! Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

I still think we should call the nesting area of this tank "the belly of the beast". It's both the deepest section of the tank, attached to the Leviathan's mouth, and where food is dragged in to be digested.

I believe from 2:04 to 2:08 if you look at the bottom left path you can see the queen move. There is at least a very large number of the ants moving in a giant cluster and a very large gaster can be seen. It is possible that it's a super major, but I believe this was the queen.

    @JDavis4991 Год назад +71

Not sure if you've done it yet.
But it would be really interesting to see how these ants react to having multiple food items of various qualities available at once to see what they prefer and how they go about collecting it. (Like a roach, pinky mouse, and piece of fish)
Maybe they take the lower quality meal thats closer to the nest first, then collect the higher quality thats further away?
Perhaps they'll pass on the low quality food for the higher quality despite the having to travel farther?
EDIT!!!!: Prioritization! Thats the word I was searching for!! What do the ants prioritize? Ease of access or quality of nutrients??

I caught a queen 2 years ago and she had some larvae but unfortunately died because of me getting a little to excited and checking up on her too often. The year after I was busy and gone a lot and I didn’t feel like I could care for her and a colony. This year I have plenty of time and I am waiting for flights so I can actually get to raise one.

I love updates on the Leviathans, but when are we going to hear updates on the other colonies?

Little did we all know the ants have been performing rituals and thinking AC is the God that brings them food as a result of those rituals. Like humans dancing and praying for good weather and crops. Lol😂

I seen a video the other day of some ants that actually farm fungi for food. Pretty amazing

with the amount these ants come out, you can tell they love doing what they have engraved in their instinct.

Feed them lower on the terrarium to make them work more for their meal. Give them some seeds for then to carry; feed them a fish bigger than the mouse.

9:09 i think that even if they dont bring it back, the major pulling helps dissect the mouse. even if he cant rip the limb off the extra tension will make it easier for other ants to sever.

You know you should try feeding them other insects like a house fly because when I was little i used to feed an ant colony near my home.i used to come out and feed them houseflys and they loved it

I dont know if I am the only one who saw it, but it looks like you can see the queen at about 2:05 before he pans up. Maybe, idk, just looked like a massive ant, and definally not a major.

I would like to see how the ants would fair against something like a wolf spider, I think it would be cool to see the majors fighting the spider!

Idea for marauder naration (ya know, when you narrate an ant like its a book) the lights of the sea creature could each house the spirit of a deceased queen. Just thought of it

Wow!!!! I was totally wrong!!! I guessed it would take atleast a day, i haven’t watched the pinky video yet but i also am a somewhat relative newcomer to your channel but have been binge watching all the playlists!!! lol that was AMAZING!!!! They’re so efficient! I had no idea they were this efficient at cleaning animals, I collect bones and I know beetles are typically used to clean carcasses quickly, usually stripping a skeleton in a few hours depending on size but that’s usually after most of the flesh has been removed to help make it as fast as possible, but I had no idea ants could strip an entire intact mouse carcass in less than 12 hours, sure there’s still a bit left but that’s INCREDIBLE!!!!! Just wow, thank you for teaching me something new! ❤
