It would be a good series if you had your viewers to give you a made up company, then draw it
Pineapple Pizza LOVE this idea!!
@@KelLauren We waiting gurl
I did go to school for graphic design but did NOT get a degree and currently work full time as a graphic designer for a vinyl car wrap company that pays me very well!! it is 100% doable to get a career without the degree! BUT it is VERY hard work!
thank you for saying this! i want people to know you guys exists haha. great work!
Noemad The Drifter what did you do to get there?
your story is so interesting!! I'd love to know what advice you'd give yo someone who is willong to put in that hard work but maybe lacks that direction on where to start? what was the hardest challange you faced in your journey and how did you overcome it?
cahìer de pluìe definitely the hardest part was just building a portfolio and gaining the courage to apply for jobs. I did a lot of “free” or really cheap work on my own to build my portfolio as well as personal projects. Just stay focused and apply for everything you see.
@@DizzyDRaps a helpful designer is you! THANK YOU!
i love that you said 'practice makes near perfect.' i normally say practice makes progress because i do struggle with perfectionism, and i'm working towards accepting that progress is enough, and not only enough, but wonderful!
Cool :)
Can we potentially see some of your work? I’m very interested
Tom J yes! it’s linked in the description :)
- practice doing quick designs of imaginary companies
- make connections/friends that will always support each other
- find something that soothes the stress in the design job
- make a portfolio that is diverse, strong, beyond school, freelance projects, confidence, boldness
this was so helpful! I'm starting my first semester for graphic design in college this fall
Skyelar i’m so glad!! best of luck!
Me too!
same!!
How did it go? I will start this August
just had a mental breakdown about now knowing what to do after highschool..this video popped up in my recommended and i never knew all of my likes could be combined into a job thank you for this the world works in wonderful ways:)
im so sorry to hear this! i hope this was helpful, dont sweat it! you have plenty of time to figure it out :)
omg kid pix. i hear that "oof" undo sound 30times a day in my head
I'm a freshman graphic design major just starting art school. You're my beam of light!!
when I listen to you, I really forget about all the problems, start believing in myself and get extremely inspired. thank you!😁
I just binged all you’re videos. You’re so entertaining.
i'm currently in my last year of high school and i'm planning to apply for graphic design in college and !!! this video makes me so excited to pursue a career in the design/creative industry... so thank you for this!
this video was actually very helpful for me and im not even going into graphic design
olivia davis i’m so glad! a lot of the principles can still be easily applied to so many other fields. thanks for watching ❤️
For a really long time now I’ve been wanting to do graphic design as a career and I absolutely love musicians album covers and merchandise designs but I didn’t really think it was a actual career you could do and now that you’ve said that you work in the music industry doing graphic design I am so so happy I clicked on this video because I seriously had no idea you could do something like this! Thank you so much 😆
this is honestly so helpful as i’m trying to pursue graphic design as a course. thank you💕
liqi keep it up! ❤️
i'm taking graphic design next semester in college so i'm really excited for this video!!! thank you💕
Hailey Nguyen yes!!! you go girl!
ahh this is so helpful thank you!! i’ve been leaning towards doing veterinary my whole life so i haven’t really thought about anything else and then recently i’ve started to reconsider and think about pursuing graphic design instead, so it’s v reassuring to hear this kind of stuff from someone who was in the same boat as me! i still have no clue whether i’ll do vet med or graphics but i’m sure i’ll figure it out ahah
just recently came across ur channel and as someone whos been in a creative rut youve really inspired me to work more towards my career goals. really nice to see someone excelling at something id like to do. love your work
ugh this is the perfect video for me to stumble upon--I immediately subscribed! I can tell by your energy you're really genuine, and a lot of the interests you described are mediums I have been attempting to gain more experience in. my parents struggle to support me in this field, and I feel like im late to the game but I have the passion. Long story short, your videos are so helpful and enjoyable!~ please keep it up
thank you for making this because everything you were talking about in what attracts you to graphic design tells me I'm where I want to be
OH MY GOD Kid Pix! That is the most nostalgic thing ever, I've been trying to remember the name of that program for yearssss, that was my entire life as a kid. I also had a bootlegged version of Photoshop when I was younger lol.
fellow young graphic designer here! been in the music industry for about a year now in LA and idk why it took me so long to click the damn recommended button haha. SO glad that i found your content with an indepth work flow on how you go about with your own design challenges. part of your curriculum with designing mock album packaging with additional marketing assets are very much the real deal (minus the x amount of resizing for social media banners). logos are my weak spot so i feel like i'm getting a crash course through your videos, granted that I didn't go to design school.
just wanna thank ya for the art and cat content & keep doing your thing!
I'm constantly trying to get myself to start making stuff independently just cause I wanna (and because my day job is boring) so this was really helpful! It was helpful to have someone say "hey just make that thing because you want to," because so often i just dont make anything because I'm worried it wont be good enough to show other people. Loved this, love yo channel
Amy Harkins yes girl i cannot encourage you enough to just give it a try and put yourself out there. you never know what is gonna happen! and with more practice, you will get better. don’t be afraid of vulnerability, embrace it.
never give up your design Kel, bcoz guy like always watching and learning ideas from you. its been 1 year and most of time I'm referring you account to lesrn somthing new. And its beeen so helpful. Girl dont give up. huge suuport for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you are such a creative and inspiring person!! 🤩
Sharons Zone thank you! :)
As someone who graduates from uni as a graphic designer next year this was really helpful, thank you!!
omg you literally do EXACTLY what i'm super interested in... i'm doing music business but graphic design, marketing and art direction is my favorite thing within the music industry
i’m going into a graphic design this year (i found you from the hair dying video) and i was actually super happy to find out you are one! :-)
avery oates yes!! more designers! ❤️
I just found you and wanted to say this was wonderful, I just finished my arch degree but prefer the graphic design aspect and your video nailed everything down to a t
I'm sure you have a bright future ahead! Loved the video of the coffee shop logos redesigns. Cheers from Buenos Aires!
As someone who is dipping their toes into the graphic design pool this was very helpful! Thank you so much :)
Smol Cheb i’m so glad! keep it up :)
I'm gonna study graphic design next year! I'm so excited ❤️ great video!!
yes girl!!! ❤️
OMG you totally brought me back with the KidPix shoutout I TOTALLY forgot about that!!
this was super helpful! i'm going to be applying to colleges soon as a graphic design major, but i keep questioning whether or not it's something i want to do, that i'd enjoy, or if i'd be any good at it in a work setting. the video helped put a lot of things into perspective for me (or at least it felt like it). anyways, i'd personally love another video.
totally understand! college is generally decent at building what your day to day might look like in regards to how projects, feedback, and deadlines work! i have another design video coming soon :))
GOOOO KEL....
Totally dumb and may be personal, but I think I really needed to hear all this stuff. I'm currently in school for GD and honestly, today was one of those days where I felt like giving up. It's happened before where I wanna just stop and do something else like you said, but I always get back up regardless. I thought for some reason, maybe I should give up if I'm feeling this way, but hearing your story and what you've been through was refreshing. Especially when hearing about the time your boss told you to be a photographer. I feel like GD is a scary industry but seeing this made it feel just a little saner and better. thanks for a wonderful video. You have no idea how many designers out there need to hear this stuff and I'm so glad someone is saying it.
i'm already 6 minutes in and you've perfectly described what I've been trying to describe to myself for years about why I wanna do marketing.
omg kid pix haha that threw me back like 12 years. love your videos :)
first, im so glad i found this channel cause ive been thinking about becoming a graphic designer. second, kid pix was my childhood!
im still trying to figure out what i want to do when im older and this helped 💛
bRuH yay! let me know if i can help in any way or if you want to chat! ❤️
I love watching your graphic design videos because I recently discovered that I want to pursue graphic design in college and I love to learn more about it so I can be prepared for the future. I also am watching this video while working on some design work for a client and I’m a senior in high school (obviously I have knowledge of photoshop and I’m learning a little bit of Illustrator)
I am a dreaded _FiNe ArTiSt_ who mostly does painting and drawing, so I was interested in whether or not if you have a sketchbook filled with script/calligraphy, inspiration layouts and/or drawings? Or do you have an inspiration board at work? Or is RUclips, floral arrangements and photography the main ways you are creative outside of graphic design work? I imagine it is important to have something to focus on personal projects as a means to counterbalance the competitive or demanding nature of your career.
Sour Eggz i’m always doing a million things! i use pinterest for the most part for organizing creative inspiration, as well as instagram :))
Kel Lauren _Nice._ 😎
This was actually really helpful for me as a first-year uni student in graphic design.
Your hair is so cuteeee
wild! your job is like my dream job!
Girl I’m so glad I’ve found your channel. I’m only 5 mins in and I too thought I wanted to pursue a career in veterinary medicine right out of high school. I was a CVA for almost 5 years, now I’m 25 and want to pursue a graphic design career while completing my bachelors degree in Biology, (since I’m about 86% done with my degree). I love all animals and their habitats but my brain has always enjoyed being creative.
Great video :) The way you describe what inspires you is very similar to what inspires me as a graphic designer. I agree having graphic design as a base is really great for any creative field, after my study I wished I did a textile degree but I quickly learned that with a graphic design base, I am able to easily morph my career in that direction without the study. Keep up the good work :)
I completely understand where you are coming from with going to an art school vs a public college... but it also depends where you go as well there are public colleges that are known for there graphic design programs and teachers an unlikely school you may not realize has an acclaimed graphic design/Viscom program is the university of Kansas). I did a lot of research on this when I was looking to go into GD and thank god I found KU cuz I could afford the art institute. You touched on a lot of great points in this video
I'm a junior in high school who has just started doing graphic design, as I was lucky enough to have a school that offers the class, and I have to say that I love it and I think that I want to work in the merch industry like you do, so thanks so much for these tips!
DUDE! I forgot about KidPix! You just brought back so many memories!
I am 1/3 years through in my graphic design program at school. I'm just trying to see how this field works, the added college credits the course gives me is just a bonus. It kinda scared me how similar our stories were, since the first grade I was set to be a pediatric or trauma surgeon, but graphic design has been calling me for the past three years too.
I have the same exact story of how I got into design! I started at FIDM in V. Comm and had a freakout in my first quarter and changed my major. Never looked back and love my job now.
Be open to anything when your first starting out and also make your friends / family know what you do because getting little projects for them helps build your experience/confidence and also your portfolio! I graduated in 2016 with a Graphic Design Degree and I finish my first full time job in 10 days time to move onto a new company - new brand guidelines!!!!
was it hard to get a graphic design job after graduating from college? i literally don't have any experience with graphic design but i'm intrigued by it. there's a 2 year graphic design program at a community college next year that i want to apply to. i don't know how much graphic design i'll learn in 2 years but any tips/advice for a beginner like me?
graphic design is so beautiful!! i see other student projects at my college and they are so artistic! I am studying industrial design :)
andre - love that!! fellow design buds ❤️❤️
Yes I would love to see more videos like this great job
OOHHHHHH MMYYYY GGOOODDD just the mention of Kid Pix takes me BACK
your background's freaking calming.
artsydog thank you!
I genuiney love this video
spectrum thank you! i hope it was helpful in any way :)
Hey, this was helpful and I enjoyed watching this!
Kidpix!! I remember the cool sounds when stamping the crap out of my screen. Also, looking back in at primary school I was so proud of my advanced Microsoft Word skills, I could do WordArt headings AND add a cool dolphin border.
the kid-pix "undo" sound-effects are ingrained in my brain so much that sometimes i will quote them back-to-back... to-back....
Oh my! I have faint memories of KidPix from my primary school (in Australia) and I never remembered the name. It's so weird hearing that years later. I can't describe the feeling this gives me. Am I old enough for nostalgia?!?
I really love your hoodie, great video btw
Hi there! I've just come across your channel and I'm binging everything. I was OBSESSED with Kid Pix when I was a kid! I swear I can sometimes hear the sounds all the different tools would make. Funnily enough, I don't have a creative bone in my body and I now study veterinary medicine! So I guess we ended up on opposite paths.
Cheers!
I'm a completely self-taught graphic designer (started when I was about 11 years old and I am now 22) so I would agree that it's 100% doable. All of my early work is HIDEOUS (!!!) but helpful! If you are trying to self teach, don't be discouraged! Just practicing making things help! I started by making crappy Doctor Who edits on pixlr and picmonkey and now I get paid big bucks to make calendars and newsletters and logos and website assets! Just keep making things and one day you'll realize how much you've progressed!
Hello! I really love graphic design and am really sad that I can't follow that path in college because I don't have the necessary exams (mostly because I wasn't in the right "course" in high school, but also because I chickened out and though I wouldn't be good) but I notice that whenever I need a break and something fun I just turn to graphic design related activities. Well, anyway, I just wanted to shout out another great graphic designer youtuber- Zimri Mayfield- because since I can't study it I just try to follow content related to it and maybe some of you watching are in the same place!
Sophie Leitao that’s so great that you still turn to it though. like i said, there are a lot of designers who have no schooling for design but a really great portfolio. don’t let it go!
yoo kidpix!!! flashing back to elementary school
Kid pix was my jam. Forget video games, let me play with kid pix for hours I was the happiest kid on earth
If you guys want to create logos, go to fakeclients and they will generate random company names and information about it so you can use that to make logos
i want to pursue a career in digital illustration (maybe like a video game character concept artist?) and this was super helpful, since we’re on similar paths. thank you, kel!! 💖
coming back to this a year later to say i’m going to study fine arts in the fall!! i appreciate you, kel, and i’m so glad i’ve been on this journey w you!!
I needed this 💜💜
kid pix omg!!!! thank u for reminding i have that
the bomb effect in kid pix 😍
Can we do this more often? Please! It is so muuch fun!
I just had my exams and im waiting to see if i got into university for graphic design and this video was really helpful 💓
Deppie Ha. omg! best of luck!! let me know if you get it!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love this video. Just graduated (eek dropped out) of the Creative Circus in Atlanta and am pursuing branding/design/hopefully not advertising (Ahhhh after I also go my Bachelor in Advertising lol). Good luck with the loans, I feel your pain!
This literally connected with me, I was gonna go to school for vet science and then last minute before going to college I decided to change major to graphic design and changed schools and everything
hell yeah dude good for you!
how did graphic design turn out for you? did you go into the program without any graphic design experience?
Im screaming, I too wanted to go into prevet for college and always wanted to be a veterinarian!! I actually double majored in biology and studio art in college. Then Junior yr swapped to graphic design and studio art. I kinda wish I had a person in hs to direct me towards a more art-focused university. But it worked out and Im a full-time graphic designer in the apparel industry. Im soooo ready to move onto something new and the field is so competitive.
this is such good advice, thank you!!
I feel like you’re having a Haley Blais moment with the vibrant hair + sweatshirt combo
Going to the computer labs at lunch and messing around on Kid Pix is one of my fondest childhood memories :D
Hanna N for real tho 😭❤️
I start school for graphic design in a couple weeks. I tried film school last year and dropped out midway through first semester, that shit sucked, I think graphic design is gonna be WAYYY better for me lol I’m excited
thank you i love this
Kid pix! Kid pix! Come on and play with Kid pix! WOOOOW
KIDDDDDDDPIXXXXXXXX YAAAAAAAAAAASSSS omg I totally forgot about that. Literally from 30 years ago. It definitely was responsible for my creative curiosity.
Kid Pix on a iMac G3 was so cool back in the day
you are pam from the office at this point
Genaviene mayhew i know 😭
Literally had the same story as you with switching your major. My original goal during my senior year was to make my own clothes and put my art on shorts so I went to an open house for an Art university and went looking into a fashion major. Once they showed me some of the things I would be doing I want sure I liked it but at the end of the open house I had told my counselor about what I wanted to do with my shirts and she told me I should speak to one of the professors there so I did and he told me I shouldn’t take fashion but Graphic Design and from there I took his word for it and have liked it ever since. I was lucky that I figured that out before I actually started my major lol.
i saw nine seconds of this video, paused, and subscribed
I miss kid pixs so much, omg I haven’t thought about that in a long minute
Morgan McCarthy.y SO good
Kid pix is how i discovered my love for photoshop
I’ve been watching your videos for about 2 hours, I want to be a graphic designer too!
I’m 16 and I want to be a graphic designer so this was very helpful
I love Wacom tablets, but I will say; using the iPad to draw on (with Procreate and adobe) has changed the GAME for me. Just because it makes a huge difference to be able to draw directly on, rather than having that detached feeling.
Truly inspiring the masses...
I'm a graphic designer too! I make graphic design videos and vlogs!
Just subbed, love your channel!
You uncovered something previously deeply lost from my memory. KidPix. Damn.
I’m 15 and interested in graphic design and I think your page is so helpful I jus found it! I’ve always loved art and painting but never rly drew as much. I recently got a M surface pro to use for school but I could also start drawing using technology, but since I never drew as much idk my “art style” and it rly brings me down as an artist. I’ve always been creative as well and a perfectionist haha. Also interested in photography and even own my own camera! With all of this I’m jus trying to find which of my interests to turn into a job for my future ya kno? 🥺
This helped me a lot! thank you for this. :)
The.Mad.Hattress yay! you’re so welcome! :))
Shine bright like a diamond
