This animated series originally started on kickstarter as just an animated special, but they ended up getting so much money they were able to turn it into a series before getting picked up my Amazon. Apparently, season 2 has already been green lit. This series is based off the first campaign of Critical Role, which follows Vox Machina as they go from a band of chuckle-fucks, to renowned heroes of the land.
Some additional info on the characters. Vex and Vax: Twin half elves who ran away from their ass of a father. Vax is a rogue and Vex is a ranger. Pike: A gnome cleric who’s family actually helped Grog before the party was fully formed, which is why they’re close. Grog: A goliath barbarian who was kicked out of his tribe and nearly beaten to death. He was saved by Pikes family. Scanlan: A gnome and formerly traveling bard and ladies man who’s home was attacked by goblins at a young age. Keyleth: a half elf druid from a nature dwelling tribe of people known as the Ashari. She’s undertaking a sort of pilgrimage in order to learn how to lead her people in the future. Percy: A former nobleman who was chased from his ancestral home many years ago. Now, he uses his tinkering knowledge to craft the tools he uses to get his revenge.
Don't forget that when they started their Kickstarter Goal of 750, 000 dollars. They met it in like 24hrs. By the end of the month, they had raised 11 million dollars for the kickstarter. This was a passion project for the fans of Critical Role by the fans of Critical Role. Considering Critical Role is one of, if not thee, Most Watched Twitch Channel on the service. It's no surprise this kicked off like a wildfire.
The thing of it is that, since this is based on an actual D&D campaign, the story doesn't proceed quite how one expects. You can pick out the times a player rolls a critical miss or hit and how it changes the story. Vox Machina (the clever wordplay referring to their careers as voice actors) is less a story or a legend, and more the crazy wacky lives of a bunch of C-rank adventurers suddenly thrown into S-class missions and rising up to the challenge.
I’m with Relic. The bar fight shows that they’re skilled. They were plastered and getting in each other’s ways, and they still wiped the floor with them.
Hmm...perhaps they are B-rank individually, but haven't yet learned to work properly as a team. This is pretty early in their adventures, after all. Also, I'm not completely sure that applies to all of them. How is Percy ranked as a gunslinger? And Scanlan...not sure how bards work actually, but I feel he would be better than how he is if he were actually B rank already.

This show is based off a DND game, Keyleth freezing during the dragon fight is actually a game mechanic. Dragons have this ability called draconic presence, it's basically a fear effect that the players have to save against, or be scared of the dragon... Keyleth failed the roll against the draconic presence so she had to skip rounds of combat till she made the save (this isn't the exact mechanic but it's altered here so it could be translated better for animation)
So fun fact: The voice actors for the little kids in the village are actually voiced by the children of Liam Obrian (Vax's VA) and Sam Riegal (Scanlan's VA). Also the half-elf person that Scanlan pees on near the Job board is Matthew Mercer 's insert character (there are multiple characters that Matt plays so keep an eye on that)

@@jankyyard5610 it depends on the company. Not to mention the number of people involved. Concept artists, background artists, animators, fx animators, colorists, vfx compositors, editing, voice acting, music, sound effects, etc. It all adds up in the end.

The original plan for the one episode was along the lines of "Our fans are great, and if it happens then fans are funding it. So lets make a it high quality". The pinging sound is the character vex's ranger ability in effect which lets you determine the vicinity of certain creatures such as dragons though it depends on what type of creature you choose.

Considering you can sense their presence within 1 - 6 miles, I like to interpret it as magic in my games.

Gunslinger is a homebrew (meaning custom made) class from another known tabletop rpg called Pathfinder that the dm (dungeon master) brought into his campaign. Keyleth the half elf Druid. Pyke the gnome cleric. Grog is a Goliath barbarian. Scanlan the gnome bard. Vex the half elf ranger and vax the half elf rogue. And there’s trinket the animal companion to vex since rangers can get themselves a battle pet pretty much.
I love how some scenes you can just see a failed save or a Nat 20. Like when Keyleth threw up was a failed CON save and Pike almost throwing up was probably Ashley just barely succeeding on her save.

The characters of Vox Machina are actually voiced by the players/voice actors/cosplayers who invented them for their D&D game. And they are pretty known voice actors.
Vox Machina was a DnD Twitch stream from Critical Role (the number One twitch streamers based on revenue). They did a kickstarted for an animated special (45min of animation). They hit their goal within 4hrs, and went on to get $11.5 million all told (broke records). They already have a second season with Amazon. This show is going to blow you away.
Currently the series is covering stuff that was not part of the original streamed series for Critical Role, episodes 1-2 are all pre-stream content, 3-12 will be following a major arc of Campaign 1 from the stream, so a lot of stuff that happens in 3-12 is stuff that happened live while they were playing D&D. Critical Role is actually now on their 3rd campaign which is set (in game) about 30 years after the events of the Vox Machina group.
So, fun fact. Before the streamed D&D, Vox Machina called themselves "The Shits", but when they had to be formally introduced before nobles, they decided to revise their name to Vox Machina.
A little expansion for both names for anyone wondering. It was "The SHITs", or the Super High-Intensity Team originally. Once the livestream started it changed to Vox Machina, Latin for "Voice Machine" as the entire party was made up of voice actors.

The guy who was posting the mercenaries wanted sign was made in the likeness of the Dungeon Master of the campaign, Matt Mercer. A fun game to play per episode is 'Spot the Matt', in most episodes his likeness appears somewhere.

Vox Machina means "Voice in the Machine" since the entire cast who played the original D&D game are all voice actors.
Vox Machina is Latin for voice machine which is apropos as the critical role players are all voice actors.
The characters of Vox Machina are actually voiced by the players/voice actors/cosplayers who invented them for their D&D game. And they are pretty known voice actors.

Vox Machina was a DnD Twitch stream from Critical Role (the number One twitch streamers based on revenue). They did a kickstarted for an animated special (45min of animation). They hit their goal within 4hrs, and went on to get $11.5 million all told (broke records). They already have a second season with Amazon. This show is going to blow you away.

Currently the series is covering stuff that was not part of the original streamed series for Critical Role, episodes 1-2 are all pre-stream content, 3-12 will be following a major arc of Campaign 1 from the stream, so a lot of stuff that happens in 3-12 is stuff that happened live while they were playing D&D. Critical Role is actually now on their 3rd campaign which is set (in game) about 30 years after the events of the Vox Machina group.
So, fun fact. Before the streamed D&D, Vox Machina called themselves "The Shits", but when they had to be formally introduced before nobles, they decided to revise their name to Vox Machina.
A little expansion for both names for anyone wondering. It was "The SHITs", or the Super High-Intensity Team originally. Once the livestream started it changed to Vox Machina, Latin for "Voice Machine" as the entire party was made up of voice actors.

It's based on a Dungeons and Dragons game, which is a live roleplaying game. It's was all improv!
A game master writes the location and a general story to follow, but the players can do/say anything they want.

The guy who was posting the mercenaries wanted sign was made in the likeness of the Dungeon Master of the campaign, Matt Mercer. A fun game to play per episode is 'Spot the Matt', in most episodes his likeness appears somewhere.
