Fun fact, when Victor Salva made Powder (1995) for Disney, he was quoted from saying "Powder contains many of my thoughts from my time in prison in it's subtext. It was a terrible time for me, enduring the constant taunts. I often felt like Sean Patrick Flanery's albono character. My power did not come from within myself though; my close friend Francis Ford Coppola gave me that power. He visted me weekly, we discussed my crimes." Yeah, he actually felt like the misinderstood victim after all of this. It seems like the only remorse Salva had was that he got caught.

I also forgot he made Powder, a movie I also never seen (I never seen Jeepers Creepers, just wasn't something I wanted to watch back in the day and by the time I remembered it was something I hadn't seen, it was only because a creator I really like, Jamie DLux, was talking about the charges so I didn't bother).... What's crazy is, I remember people talking about the movie Powder when it came out and a lot of people were saying the character was a total creep and the movie gave weird vibes. I never paid it any mind bc I figured it was a silly kids movie at that point. Now, though, it hits a little different 😮

I don’t know what state it’s legal to get a three year sentence for child molesting, (25 to life in Texas and 365 days to 5 years in California were the first two to show up) or how you could catch a life sentence for a first offense possession of weed (unless the cases your thinking of also included other offenses). Not to say the three year sentence didn’t happen.
Well I dont know if him not wanting to promote the movie or what ever means hes good guy in real life lol. However when it comes to this type stuff there really isnt any real answer that can satisfy every one. Movies are made by entire groups of people and chances are one of them has prolly done some horror stuff cause humans themselves are mostly terrible to begin with. But when you actually know about it that makes it feel different so when it comes to this stuff both sides are right you are not at fault for not wanting to watch the movies or pay for them but it is also true all people have all sides to them and just because someone is horrible person doesnt mean they are creative in other areas. Point being there are all kinds of molesters axe murders and serial killers who prolly could make enjoyable movies lol. So it is perfectly fine and understandable to separate yourself from the person and just enjoy the product if you are capable of doing so. Its just something thats different for every person there is no right or wrong answer and in the end it all comes down to how you feel personally and rather you yourself can separate the art from the artist.
I pretty consistently get the impression from James that he is a profoundly decent and thoughtful guy. His opinions are always reflective and never knee-jerk, he seems to have a strong sense of the importance of doing the right thing, and he's also not dogmatic about the ethical views he holds, as demonstrated in this clip. Don't know the guy personally, of course, but everything I've seen and heard from him points in the right direction.
I want people to actually think about the FACT that he was found with having MULTIPLE C.P. held withing his possession, one of them showing HIMSELF WITH A 12YR OLD BOY, and still only served a mere 15 F-ING MONTHS in jail.

I saw that movie for the first time in late 2020 when rented Jeepers Creepers from RUclips when I had COVID. I loved the movie. So naturally I looked up the creator to see what else he did. I saw what else he did, and I have not watched any of his movies ever since and I never will again. Like you, I'm open to seperating the art fron the artist, but not when the artist harms a child
It was actually originally worse than that, there's a scene that was cut from the theatrical release where two men are discussing how one of the main characters was molested by her step father and one of the men says "can you blame him though... the heart wants what the heart wants". Absolutely disgusting. Unfortunately I didn't learn about this vile predator until after I had watched his mediocre films. He's a danger to society and should be locked up.

Jeepers Creepers is the scariest movie I ever seen as a kid. That’s where the respect ends. Respect to you for revealing to your audience that this movie was actually made by a monster in real life. He tainted his own masterpiece with his personal decisions and for that we don’t condone.

He used the theatrical cut for the Halloween remake because the unrated version had an unnecessary rape scene, he gives a warning on a video about a movie where a serial killer does his thing at a high school (due to a recent mass shooting) and just seems like a real friendly guy. In Jeepers Creepers 3, there’s a scene that actually references Victor Salva’s back story, two characters talk about a 13 year old girl named Addison who ran away from her sexually abusive stepfather, and one of them ACTUALLY DEFENDS the stepfather's actions by saying "Can you blame the step-dad, though? I mean, look at her. The heart wants what it wants, am I right?". No your wrong buddy. no wonder that movie sucks.
I mean, prison is supposed to reform criminals, not punish them. If it's just a punishment, then the cost for ruining someone's life should be the death sentence. I'm not saying Salva is reformed, by any means, but as long as we're pretending that's what the purpose of our prison system is, time served shouldn't matter.

Jeepers Creepers 1 and 2 were two of my favorite movies growing up. However, what that guy did will never be okay and I have a huge amount of respect for you and your decision.

I see what you mean and s’oon as i found out about the Author (long ago) JC was one of my faves. In no way am i agreeing to justify what he did and the little time he actually served for the offense. But his opinion is biased and i do believe that “genuine” is sorta a strong word to use over someone who is being biased. Yes, i do understand his reasoning and i’m proud for once to see a youtuber that does have standards (not to mention when he sponsored shudder, which is great btw specially after a whole month trial) but agreeing with a consensus that is is obviously “bad” in society today does not make him genuine it makes him bias. I had that theory a long time ago. If you ignore the fact he pretty much has pennywises backstory(the smell/feed on fear and hibernation period) mixed with the predator its a movie about him trying too suppress his urges but they always eventually come out and when it does he has a type
He basically watches a horror movie, and counts how many deaths occurred in the movie, or you can say he basically tells the story of the movie and he only covers horror movies, he dosent cover movie's like Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers: Endgame, the reason he doesn't cover them is because they aren't horror movies

What I mean by this is, a week before my birthday my friends wanted to watch the movie on my birthday. I fiat out refused due to the same reason James has.
I worked on the behind-the-scenes featurette for "Jeeper Creepers II." Victor Salva took it upon himself to start massaging Drew Tyler Bell, a super young looking actor, while he was chilling on set. He didn't ask for it; he just approached him and started doing it and Drew had to sit there and let him. I don't know if this even made it into the DVD but it's clear he felt no remorse from his earlier convictions.

The raw footage exists and he did it openly in front of a camera and I was shocked (I wasn't on set but I watched the footage back later, etc.). Drew also may have been emancipated like most young actors are; he was on a soap opera and I don't recall his parents being anywhere nearby. I think he was being interviewed for the EPK and Victor just came and started massaging him. I remember him closing his eyes, pretending he was enjoying it, and the camera just rolled for a bit before Victor patted him on the back and walked away. I was like, "Jesus Christ, this guy didn't have a single incident of molestation and then feel remorseful... it's how he's wired."

It's been widely know since the 90s, My mother told me about him when i was a kid when i asked her why the creeper only went after boys. It was even a big issue when Jeepers creepers 3 came out. they canceled the theatrical release and it was only televised once a week for the month of October so if you happened to miss it then too bad. i wouldn't expect the younger generation to know being that he's essentially been blacklisted but Hollywood has always been pretty lenient to the pedos so i'm not surprised that so many had no idea.

The kill counts don't just count the kills, they go in depth into the movies, how they were made, the references or connections to other works, and who the hell made them. Omitting the crime cheapens the effort, and you can't exactly gloss over it in a brief mention and continue with the kills. It’s hard to separate the art from the artist in the case of “Jeepers Creepers”. The Creeper is a glorified embodiment of the real monster. When you know the sick truth about Salva it makes Jeepers an even scarier story. The monster drives a creeper van, targets boys and young men, and takes their eyes because that’s the essence of their innocence. The Creeper even gets off by smelling their fear. I feel bad for those affected by his abuse as well as those who worked with him. The film crews who thought they were just creating a new horror icon but were actually glorifying a predator’s sick fantasies. It’s unfortunate. For that it’s a franchise I do not support either.

As someone who was sexually abused at around the same age as Nathan (the boy who starred in Clown House) I applaud you for sticking by your morals. I enjoyed Jeepers Creepers and I found out later the director was a sexual predator. He also directed Powder for Disney...I hear they're making a new one without him this time. I still don't get some people's insistence to call James a hypocrite. It's hard to separate art from artist when Victor Salva's has an influence on the films. Someone tried to say him covering Stanley Kubrick or Hitchcock means he's a hypocrite, but Salva is still around making movies and he didn't get a proper due sentence. And in the end, it's his show, and I'd rather him cover stuff he's comfortable with covering
He got the sentence the legal system decided. You can ask for the courts to change the required sentences (first you’d have to find which state has minimum sentences that low), but it’s by definition his due time. Plus, he is permanently on a sex offender registry

Separating the art from the artist is something that should be done depending on context. I personally like the Jeepers Creepers movies, but when you think about the context of the movie, it's difficult to separate from the context of a real life creeper preying on young men/boys.

I pretty consistently get the impression from James that he is a profoundly decent and thoughtful guy. His opinions are always reflective and never knee-jerk, he seems to have a strong sense of the importance of doing the right thing, and he's also not dogmatic about the ethical views he holds, as demonstrated in this clip. Don't know the guy personally, of course, but everything I've seen and heard from him points in the right direction.

However it is possible his conviction came about of a guilty plea that in turn may have included stipulations. I see what you mean and s’oon as i found out about the Author (long ago) JC was one of my faves. In no way am i agreeing to justify what he did and the little time he actually served for the offense. But his opinion is biased and i do believe that “genuine” is sorta a strong word to use over someone who is being biased.

What I mean by this is, a week before my birthday my friends wanted to watch the movie on my birthday. I fiat out refused due to the same reason James has.
I worked on the behind-the-scenes featurette for "Jeeper Creepers II." Victor Salva took it upon himself to start massaging Drew Tyler Bell, a super young looking actor, while he was chilling on set. He didn't ask for it; he just approached him and started doing it and Drew had to sit there and let him. I don't know if this even made it into the DVD but it's clear he felt no remorse from his earlier convictions.
That is not on the behind the scenes featurette of Jeepers Creepers II on DVD. I actually have Jeepers Creepers II on DVD along with the first one in a double pack.

The raw footage exists and he did it openly in front of a camera and I was shocked (I wasn't on set but I watched the footage back later, etc.). Drew also may have been emancipated like most young actors are; he was on a soap opera and I don't recall his parents being anywhere nearby. I think he was being interviewed for the EPK and Victor just came and started massaging him. I was like, "Jesus Christ, this guy didn't have a single incident of molestation and then feel remorseful... it's how he's wired."

It's been widely know since the 90s, My mother told me about him when i was a kid when i asked her why the creeper only went after boys. It was even a big issue when Jeepers creepers 3 came out. they canceled the theatrical release and it was only televised once a week for the month of October so if you happened to miss it then too bad. i wouldn't expect the younger generation to know being that he's essentially been blacklisted but Hollywood has always been pretty lenient to the pedos so i'm not surprised that so many had no idea.

Jeepers Creepers is one of my favorite horror movies, but I can see why James is NOT covering it ever.
I also enjoy the movies. That said, I won't watch them in any way which would financially benefit the director.
I don't understand why, I get that the person behind it was the real Creeper but what does that have to do with not making a kill count. Hate the Artist, not the art. The kill counts don't just count the kills, they go in depth into the movies, how they were made, the references or connections to other works, and who the hell made them. Omitting the crime cheapens the effort, and you can't exactly gloss over it in a brief mention and continue with the kills. Additionally, the movie isn't that great anyway, so people are just being reactionary for the sake of being reactionary.

It’s hard to separate the art from the artist in the case of “Jeepers Creepers”. The Creeper is a glorified embodiment of the real monster. When you know the sick truth about Salva it makes Jeepers an even scarier story. The monster drives a creeper van, targets boys and young men, and takes their eyes because that’s the essence of their innocence. The Creeper even gets off by smelling their fear. I feel bad for those affected by his abuse as well as those who worked with him. The film crews who thought they were just creating a new horror icon but were actually glorifying a predator’s sick fantasies. It’s unfortunate. For that it’s a franchise I do not support either.

As someone who was sexually abused at around the same age as Nathan (the boy who starred in Clown House) I applaud you for sticking by your morals. I enjoyed Jeepers Creepers and I found out later the director was a sexual predator. He also directed Powder for Disney...I hear they're making a new one without him this time. I still don't get some people's insistence to call James a hypocrite. It's hard to separate art from artist when Victor Salva's has an influence on the films. Someone tried to say him covering Stanley Kubrick or Hitchcock means he's a hypocrite, but Salva is still around making movies and he didn't get a proper due sentence. And in the end, it's his show, and I'd rather him cover stuff he's comfortable with covering
He got the sentence the legal system decided. You can ask for the courts to change the required sentences (first you’d have to find which state has minimum sentences that low), but it’s by definition his due time. Plus, he is permanently on a sex offender registry

Separating the art from the artist is something that should be done depending on context. I personally like the Jeepers Creepers movies, but when you think about the context of the movie, it's difficult to separate from the context of a real life creeper preying on young men/boys.
