      @@blessed994 I fully support Ukraine and hope that Russia loses soon and very painfully. But one must not lose sight of the fact that America, and thus the leader of the Western world, has not fought fewer wars since World War II than the SU or Russia. Yes, they do not tend to ethnic cleansing or annexation, but they also brought to many countries a lot of suffering, as well as death and destruction. The motives are often "noble" but also completely naive and not free of economic and especially political motives. The USA also destroyed democracies, especially in Africa, and left a chaos in Iraq that destabilized the whole Middle East. A chaos which will probably not last for decades and has made the West a hate figure.
      America is unquestionably a free society with a democracy and often noble goals, but they are also selfish, naive and convinced of the superiority of their lifestyle. The lifestyle is often freedom, democracy and capitalism (but the worst), but this lifestyle has also been spread too often with violence. Russia hopefully loses, because it is a clear fascist regime, but it does not make the Yanks saints or the exclusively good ones.

The US government gives a F**** about you - you're just another pawn for their geopolitical chessboard games. The moment the War will be over, a swarm of locusts will befall Ukraine (if not already in position) to buy out the remnants of what once was your economy to put american interests/domination and resulting profits into their own pockets, man. They will sugarcoat their blatant lies by telling you that you are safe and sound know, that "Democracy" has prevailed and then they will strip away anything that once has been your history and tradition and that clown Selensky will be their Pimp to make it happen, sipping on Bacardi on some remote Island when that deal is done - while the population of the Ukraine will face another bad awakening, paying the price of being played by just another ruthless bunch of criminal sociopaths powered by Wallstreet and Goldman Sachs...I understand you won't believe it, like our brothers and sisters from former East Germany (I'm German)didn't understand cause they weren't socialised in the WEST. Our German Government isn't any better, Germany as a US- pawn is just some decades ahead of Ukraine, goddamned...didn't you follow what happened to Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya or any other country the US intervened ? Germany was just lucky economically because we were needed as Spearhead against Communism and so we were properly fed (thats the truth behind the German "Wirtschaftswunder") at the cost of our full sovereignty (and the guilt train because of our history came in very helpful). So afterwards the US presented that as the goal of the entite thing so they could clame to have beaten the 'godless commies'. Which is probably why Rammstein use it in this video. Id say its the difference in the Coporate and Government ways of doing things. MOST, not all, Corporations only go into a country once there is a proven market, aka the people there WANT McDonalds or Best Buy or Walmart. Cause why go in if it loses your money. Government on the other had thinks it can and should "shape the world". Democracy doesnt come from liberating people by force telling them how to do things and then leaving. It comes when the people THEMSELVES realize their system is shit and FORCE a change from the inside. No true revolution or countries governmental system change has ever come due to external force but internal.

  • @naphackDT

    Some minor insights: "Music comes from the white house" is a rather bad translation. While it is a literal translation, it doesn't quite catch the true meaning.
    The verses before are about america leading when people dance. A better translation would be "the white house plays the tune." Basically, people may dance as much as they want as long as they dance to the white house's tune.
    There also is a whole other interpretation of the song to get into. "We're all living in America" could be read as a reflection on the state of the world by non-Americans, but an equally valid interpretation is that it's expressed from the point of view of the average American, namely the conviction that everywhere is roughly the same as America. While projecting your own normal onto everyone else is not a uniquely American thing, it's nevertheless a thing a lot of American's subconsciously do.

    @arc6017 3 года назад +45

    This may well be the best reaction and understanding of this song I've seen by an american.
    America's influence in the world is huge. But I think their focus on this is not so much the politic side of it: the invaded countries, the implementation of american values on other countries or backing up governments of other countries to meet America's goals and objectives (like Russia and China also do in some other territories). They point a bit of that but I think their focus is more to the global influence in the modern way of life of the people (food, drinks, clothing, Hollywood, music, language, etc.) and how the world just adopted it all.
    Rather than an isolated critique to America its more of a global critique to all of us that acepted and absorved all the "Americana" we could. I mean, I love Coke, McDonald's, Hollywood movies and etc and that was not imposed by America, it was absorved by us in Europe, Asia, Africa, etc.
    Hollywood, TV and music were a major contribution for that happening because everyone wanted to be like Rambo, visit the great places of America the movies show, ride the car from Knigth Rider or eat and drink what their favorite actor or music did.
    America in the last century was pionneer in all that and exporting it all to the whole world. Those were some of the main reasons but that's another discussion :)
    And the irony is not lost in Rammstein: this is one of the very few songs they have with english lyrics, so they kind include themselfs in the same boat.
    I love a lot of things in America, and like you, dont like their politics. Its kind of the same with my own country.
    Back to Rammstein, they are really a thought provoking and unique band and although they have great videos, the live ones are where they shine, simply the best live band in the world: its an epic spectacle of fire, pyro and gymmicks. Try one of their biggest hits: Du Hast live in Paris.
    Damn, I think I never wrote so much on a comment section...sorry for that :D
    Again, great reaction and input on the song. Peace.

    One part of the video is USA becoming a nation, but also Native Americans getting pissed because of what has become of Turtle Island, which is what the continent was originally called by Native Americans before Europeans decimated the population of Native Americans. I am so happy to see Native Americans represented, it means Rammstein and by extension, a lot of Germans know what the history of America is.

    Another funny detail is that they dressed up as Native Americans in the music video. This is a little reference to the fact that there were a lot of "Indians and cowboys" movies made in the GDR, the so-called Easterns. For example, "Chingachgook the Big Snake," which of course had no Native Americans in it, and their roles were played by European actors like the Yugoslav actor Gojko Mitich. These movies were incredibly popular with German and Soviet children and teenagers.

    This is one of my favorites. It’s very surreal to think about just how much “American culture” and products (music, movies, language, food etc) have come to sort of “invade” the rest of the world to the point where most people don’t even question it.
    It’s also strange to think about how other countries often discuss what’s happening with our “celebrities” and politicians when we don’t do that for them.
    Rammstein’s lyrics are always interesting and it’s nice to have that different perspective on important topics, which this song somewhat points out that we generally don’t get to hear/see as often as we should (because the “american” perspective has been more “normalized” globally).

    You're doing this thing correct. Many reactors are just listening to the songs and then go "I don't understand anything they're saying!" -like it's that hard looking up german-english translations..

  • @janm3781
    @janm3781 2 года назад +9

    Might be my favorite reaction to a Rammstein video so far! You are very perceptive!
    I think there is only one little thing you probably got wrong while looking at the English lyrics, but that's not your fault, basically something lost in translation:
    "Music comes from the White House./Musik kommt aus dem Weißen Haus." That's not about everything coming frome the White House sounding good on the surface (interesting thought though.) There is a common German expression: "Hier spielt die Musik." meaning "The music is playing here." Emphasis on "here". It's something people say when they want people to listen to what they have to say. Teachers use it a lot if the students aren't paying attention. So the sentence basically puts even more emphasis on the overall message of the song: Hey world, listen to what the White House has to say, we know what's good for you, we show you how it's done!

    This song just helped me to realise how Americanised the world is. Everywhere, even with regional variation, is effectively the same these days. Even in Britain, which has so many similarities to America, was a very different place 30-40 years ago. My mum used to tell me about how you could only get American products and American brands from the US airbases and they were seen as luxury goods. Now, I've grown up in a country that I feel I've never really known as its difficult to tell where the American influence ends and Britain begins, culturally-speaking. In the process of exporting brands and franchises to foreign countries, America has effectively franchised their culture to be laid out over the tops of the cultures of every other country in the world.
    There's an Irish comedian called Tommy Tiernan who put the feeling best. He basically said that 'everywhere, in the world, you go. You always see the same thing. White people! Shopping!' he then went on to complain about how the world is being slowly culturally homogenised by the sneaky imperialism of the US and that its no longer possible to encounter cultures and societies that are truly alien to the American model.

    I'm french and we all here know how it is important to learn from others, and we got a lot from America (don't wanna speak about war, I meant in a cultural way), but yes, sometimes I feel a bit sad when I see all those macdonalds everywhere in France just an example. We feel sometimes that america is acting like a bulldozer, everything seems big. It's a pleasure to catch some, but when it's an overdose, it seems that there is too much.
    Lot of american movies, music, shows, way of thinking are a good way to learn more (and a lot are really awesome!!!), to get our mind richer, it would be a pleasure to visit some american places, BUT I don't want to live in an "American France", and I'm sure American, even those who like France wouldn't like to live in a "french America".
