- After all the hassle of actually getting our old 1967 Routemaster London Double Decker bus going it's now time to drive it to its new home. Will it make it and what's it like to actually drive?

About Pete And His Bus: Pete is a normal (ish) guy who has a big passion for old vehicles and particularly old buses. He is NOT a trained mechanic nor is he professional restorer. He enjoys converting vehicles but he can not promise that what he is doing is going to work on your vehicle. Nor can he promise that you won’t harm yourself if you were you to attempt the things he does. He recommends that you are safe and responsible with machinery and equipment even if you’ve seen him messing about with it. A workshop and it’s content can be a dangerous place. If you are in doubt about your own vehicle, contact a professional for advice.
They are great fun to drive. Oh and that Engine noise is a lovely Sound.........
Couldn’t agree more
This is most reality of all reality TV.
hahaha, I'm glad you like it!
Pulling up at a petrol station to fill up the bus brought back some memories… I once owned a motor cruiser boat and while it was on its trailer I thought it would be a smart idea to fill it up… I never knew that the petrol pumps cut off at £100, I had to restart the pump 3-times and the tank was still not full… yikes!
Haha!! Ouch! Hopefully the fuel prices were not like they are now… take a loan out to fill it up…. 😂👍
I can recall the same thing, I think we reached £500 before we gave up, I recall it was the first time the cashier had seen the pump cut off at £100, then he got to see it another 4 times!
I Drove Routemasters for 3 years on the 14 and 22 routes into London and I enjoyed every minute of it. Bloody hard work but they were such fun to drive.
Awh that’s great! Yeah they are hard work.
@@PeteAndHisBus My first Day I got home, sat down in the armchair and thaat was me gone! Tired but happy.
Great little episode, good to see the RM arrive at her new home.
👍
I actually drove this bus in service on the 159 from brixton bus garage
WHAT!!!??? That’s brilliant Paul. I’m looking after her, don’t worry! ;)
Glad to here she still lives on
Ps for any pictures? Love to see them!!
@@PeteAndHisBus i have a few from when it was in service back in about 2004 ish but thats about it
Paul, if you'd like to share them, I'd love to see them. Find Pete And His Bus on Facebook if you're on there. Thanks!
I'm catching up on these early videos, great content as usual Pete.👍
I'm also loving your sense of humour, so refreshing to hear someone not minding their P's and Q's and being a bit cheeky 😄 I'm laughing and smiling so much😂🤣
I can't wait for the Album release on the Bellend records label! 😂
Keep up your fantastic work, it's very much appreciated. 😄
😂😂😂
I used to drive the routemaster bus on route 38(I think I saw one in your garage in this video).
They are the most brilliant buses and fun to drive .(I have driven a few other types too:
Bendy buses and the current bus I drive now - Boris Bus , new Routemaster, but nothing compares to the original routemaster).
That would be my first bus 2355, it’ll feature in the channel further along.
@Pete And His Bus I used to drive that bus in service in London.
You done a grand job in rectifying the buses.
@@AWB1968 brilliant! Thanks for watching.
Nice one Pate, I was 11 in 1967 😀
Nice one
So glad to see it out of the weather 👍👍
It was high time, she’d been outside at least 10 years.
Buses and coaches are underrated vehicles
Finally someone who understands!! 👍👍👍
It's a long long journey in an unknown Vehicle 👍👍👍
sure is
Old route masters never die
Damn right!
Surely, it’s, Buses are Cool! One S. but yes, they are cool.
It was a subtle joke, just like the fact I'm advertising it as a musical album!! Thanks for watching and I'm glad you agree!
Just finished watching the series so i thought...
Why shouldnt i watch it all again?
😂😂
It didn't look like there was much space between the roof and the canopy at the filling station!
😂😂 that’s right!
Welcome home.
Thanks
Saw this on tik tok and definitely not disappointed. Always wanted to see the inside of one of these since Harry Potter. ✌🏻 from across the pond
Thanks for your support! Glad you like it, even though this bus is totally different to the harry potter bus. But hey it's tall and has wheels.... ;)
I want one!
You should get one, they’re amazing!!
@@PeteAndHisBus bit hard! I live in Australia! 🤣 will follow with envy! 🤣🤣🤣
Smell the glove!!
Sniff it real hard! ;)
Dang this be hot yo!
You know it!
Amazing how long these where kept in service, I drive some newer buses and can't see them lasting anywhere near as long
You’re right, the new ones just won’t will they...
@@PeteAndHisBus oh no haha we've got some brand new midi buses recently from ADL and less then 10k miles already rattling, panels squeaking etc and random warning lights aha
All down to maintenance .
After changing that pipe the brake system would of needed charging cos no doubt the stop fog didn’t go up
Correct! But I still have brakes off the quill drive.
Everyone gives you right of way? Thats a bit different to where I am, I'm sure the bigger the vehicle you drive here now the more people try to cut you off to make sure they're in front, even when traffics backed up hardly moving.
hahaha!
Many drivers have some sort of Genitic Defect that stops them seeing buses.
@@51WCDodge not just buses. I've seen people drive right into the side of truck and trailer units in supermarket car parks.
@@benmac940 If your like me the first words out of the other drivers mouth are along the lines of 'What are you doing there?'.
Whereabouts on the bus was the dead bird?
In the drivers cab
Hi Pete, when driving do you manually switch between gears? Or simply put it into the top gear / auto?
On 2355 the auto gears have been disabled. (Always have been) so I always shift. 2730 still has her auto function but I don’t find it works all that great. So I tend to shift manually in her too.
Use Dasty to clean anything real dirty. the best cleaner ever
Thanks
Hi Pete I take it the £120 was the fuel or was there more
Yep, sure was
@@PeteAndHisBus how many miles to the gallon. That's expensive
Is the fit guy in grey overalls single? Does he have his own channel yet?
It is about time he did really, but he might be doing time.... he bad ass... ;)
How can you drive on the open road without any tests, insurance or tax?
With trade plates.
@@PeteAndHisBus thanks, ps love your channel .
Your work ethic is outstanding.
Keep up the good work
👍
😍
Thanks bob!!
Does this bus have the old type preselector gearbox?
Hey there, yes it certainly does. Very easy to use.
@@PeteAndHisBus, thanks for the reply. Please will you do a video on the preselector. Like how it drives, shifting up, shifting down, accelerator pedal usage, etc. This is fascinating technology that is almost lost in time. Many thanks & enjoy your bus. Wish I had one.
@@friendlypiranha774 yes, if people are interested in this I could certainly do this.
Christ where to start?...
It can feel that way sometimes. It’s all about doing one small bit at a time.
I'm mean I love the videos but I feel there to short of a video
That's right Tom. But as you'll notice they get longer and longer. Tomorrows release will be my longest yet.
Everybody was probably giving why because they don't want to be hit by an uninsured driver.
Fully road legal on trade plates, keep yer pants on 😂😜
@@PeteAndHisBus Trade plates cannot be used on unroadworthy vehicles. All vehicles must be covered by insurance and have a valid MoT in place unless they are exempt from MoT requirements. All unroadworthy vehicles must be transported.
Plus you not a trader Pants lost.
And it definitely passed an mot or whatever inspection a bus needs with that smashed windscreen and no brakes trade plates only cover tax I'm glad no one got in your way
Er really no brakes
They we're ok for the short journey i did. Just so you know all the correct trade plates were used in this journey and I fully adhere to the road regulations of the land. Just sayin.... ;) Thanks for watching!
did filling the bus cost more than the bus ? lol
I'm a total solo project so in a word..... nope
This show could be so awesome but it is all B roll and very little content. It could be a great show without all the B roll.
These are very early episodes and it was all a bit experimental. It changed don’t worry
Excellent project in principle, but too much intro and useless stuff, and not enough info on what you're doing, or going to do.
It's really all about YOU isn't it, and not the bus?
Regards Mark in the UK
Ahh see now you need to watch the other show. It's called Bus And His Pete.........
Yeah I agree Mark.
@@PeteAndHisBus That made me laugh!
Yes, 45 seconds of intro on a 4 minute video
Pity about taking the Lord's name in vain...
hahahaha! You're joking right?
@@PeteAndHisBus Not at all. Why would I be?
@@GEOFF0906 oh i see...... whoops hahahaha
Get a life Geoff
