ARB BP51 Shock Absorbers. These Stone Guards are Crap...Plus a fix?

  • The ARB BP51 shock absorber is a great product let down by a very poor stone guard design (personal opinion). They just do not hold up to real world conditions. In this video I install Budbuilt stone guards onto my Toyota Landcruiser 200 as a solution to poor ARB BP51 stone guard design (note, I have no affiliation with Budbuilt and purchased the product with my own cash). Future content will include a review of the Budbuilt product after testing in real world conditions. Subscribe to catch that video and future content about all things 4WD, overlanding, camping, LC200's and travelling about this great country of Australia. While you are here check out my library of content, there is something there for everyone!

    Dude I was just about to type “Call Bud Built” lol. I have these on my 200 in 1/4 inch stainless steel. Ask for Rob.
    BTW I have full skid plates and rock sliders from them as well. They are bullet proof. I’ve taken some hard hits in the Rockies, and never damaged a single thing.
    -Powder coated Steel rock sliders
    -1/4 Aluminum skid plates accept for the Transfer case plate with is stainless steel.
    Expensive, but you never have to worry about rust.

    What happened to your rear sway bar at 8:53?
    I've had the first, second and third generations of the shock guards in the past. first generation doesn't work and falls off in no time, I believe second and third generation difference is at the thicker yellow clips. I've only manage to knock the third generation off once when doing water crossing and hit a rock below the surface. now I've put thick cable ties through the yellow clips and around the chock guard itself to prevent the yellow clips from compression and coming lose.

    • @JafffaAdventures
      @JafffaAdventures  3 года назад

      Good information mate, sounds like your experience is not too dissimilar to mine. I too have cable ties around the shock guards themselves, in addition to these budbuilt guards I detail in the video. No issues since. That silver item you noted at 8:53 is actually heat shield that I placed around the air line that goes into the diff for the ARB locker. It used to run very close to the muffler and I did not want the line damaged by heat. I subsequently removed the muffler (it’s gone in this video) but just left the heat shield in place out of laziness😂. Good eye and thanks for sharing 😎👍

    Hey have just purchased new 200 series and am looking at bp51 suspension. Are they are product you would recommend and have been happy with?

    • @JafffaAdventures
      @JafffaAdventures  4 года назад

      Hi Brett, good question. The shocks themselves are amazing, the best I have ever run (and I have tried many brands and styles). They can be a bit tricky to set up for your particular application, but when done correctly it’s like riding on a cloud. Even through the harshest of corrugations, they really are that good.
      The stone guards are crap as per my video. I don’t know what they are doing on the models for sale currently, but I have had three different designs of stone guards from ARB and all were rubbish. I trust this is of some use to you mate. Cheers😎👍

    well done …. I to have bp51 and my concerns are the same as yours …. any chance you could post some more info on these guards …. if not, that's ok to …. bp51 and 200's seem to go hand in hand so one would therefore think arb would be a little more conscious in providing alternatives, even at a cost …. its a bitch when "joe blow" needs to conduct research on their behalf …. thank you for sharing
