Have you ever bought a car and realized it's too expensive to be fun? Huge thanks to the Patreon supporters who make this content possible and to Carly for supporting the video today. Carly Affiliate link: bit.ly/31e1UUl
I feel this way about Ferraris and Lamborghinis in which the owner / you (hypothetically) are ALWAYS concerned about mileage, a rock chip, etc. Feel like that sucks the fun out of the car. Not that I know too many Ferrari owners, I can just imagine the stereotype. I think the perfect cars are well within a reasonable budget (say used maserati gran turismo, used m4, used corvette)... Though these cars don't have 3.0s 0-60s, I think that the affordability contributes a lot to the overall experience...
Also, great video as always my man... I feel like I have been just watching this channel grow... been here since idk like 20k? Correct me if wrong lol
I used to have a Porsche 911 SC from '83... heater broken-> 4k€ gone... new clutch and engine studs - > 8k€ gone... a simple inspection with oil change 800€...filling up the gas - > 120€ for about 400km... the sun roof stopped working- fixed it myself, a shop would have taken another 1500 from me...pricing in Germany doesn't help...
Im sure when I get my gen4/5 viper I'll feel like that 😂 But first ive got to pay off my borderline too expensive 2012 C63 😉😨💀
I think you’re turning me into a Porsche guy
I know this car is addicting. Although its so stiff that after about 45 minutes you start dreading every bump in the road lol
Same!
@@TedwardDrives the interior looks so cool. is that an aftermarket steering wheel and if so where can i get one like it?!
@@TedwardDrives The @Mutated_Donkey is right, you're def. a porsche guy. it's okay. I think if you're a true gear head you by default become a classic 911 guy the first time you drive one.
Welcome to Tedward talks; today’s topic: Why your car hobby is a terrible financial decision but you still do it anyways.
Me: *Shrugs sitting in Miata* ...Stonks?
😂
I also drive a Miata! Best 3000$ ive spent in my life. No loans, cashed it with no problems.
Same! LOL
Miata times are best times
@@ianstropus Agreed! The worst all around car I've ever owned by far was my '96 Corvette Collector Edition (trust me just don't ask), by far the best was my '97 Miata M Edition, you should've seen the looks on people's faces back then when I told 'em yup my Corvette is GONE, traded for this Miata, as I was smiling like the Cheshire Cat! I had it longer than any other car I've owned and wish I'd never traded it. I still hang on to a couple oil filters and other maintenance parts I just can't throw out, swearing to myself I'll have use for 'em as one day I'll own another one! You can't beat it for the combination of fun factor and ease of ownership, but I suspect the Honda S2000 could come close (and even exceed the Miata when it comes to fun factor) except the initial cost and now these days just finding a good clean one at a reasonable price is no small thing!
I live in Czechia so by no means i have a high salary even though i am an engineer but i am a huge sports cars fan. So i just bought Fiesta ST and even though it's cheap in sports car standards it's just my dream come true and i love every single moment of driving it and i think that's all it is about - true car guys enjoy what they have and don't feel like showing off with expensive cars they can't afford.
The fiesta st is such a great car. Playful, fun and tactile. Definitely a drivers car
I can relate. I convinced my buddy to get a Fiesta ST and of course he did because it's a great car. He lets me drive it occasionally and I swear it might be more fun than my own cars lol.
You are so right. Many years ago I owned a Opel Kadett 1979 16S Coupe for a few years. A slim, light car
with app. 80 hp. Great fun. Two weeks in Scotland on small roads ...
Nowadays I drive a Fiesta, and a Porsche 964 for fun. Both of them are great cars.
Usable power is what you need. In my hometown : Fiesta. On vacation (Germany, autobahn, 200+ km/h) Porsche 964.
I know I am lucky to drive these cars. But I worked my ### for 25 years and finally was able to buy the Porsche.
@@bobnieuwenhuis3103 How is the Porsche maintenance wise? Prices and stuff. To me it feels like if i can't buy it in reasonable time, then i can't afford all that stuff that comes with it. But surely it would be my dream as well.
@@janpetira5130 A 964 is certainly not a cheap car to run. And prices start at 40.000 euro. I bought my 964 10 years ago,
prices were much lower then. The first few years a drove it a lot, and with an old car, things break down.
I spent a lot of money over the years, but I see it as an investment. The value now is more than twice than what I payed
for it, so it is not wasted money.
Keep your dreams alive, and enjoy your Fiesta ST. My first 3 cars were all Opel Kadett C from 1978 and 1979. The first
10 years of my working life I spent very little money on cars and saved a lot. 30 Years later I own a 964.
So work hard, save money, and maybe some day ...
Tom, two things: debt is nasty. Don’t live payment to payment..but..my late grandfather advised me to enjoy the fun things when young enough to do so..I am old now and have an incurable illness. So dude: drive the damn Porsche. Screw the trip. Drive the car.
"You don't want to die the richest man. You want to die having had the most fun." My dad tells me.
MWARDEM not a bad trade off..but I’d like to leave the planet a bit better for my occupying its space..which makes it all complicated..social conscience vs visceral self centred pleasure ..there is no right way in terms of the extremes, but for sure in my mind living payment to payment is some form of indentured servitude
Squirrel! He survived.. YES! Another one lives on Tedward's talk - Loved it!

The car you drive < The people, places, and experiences you have with it.
Similar to how people think that once they have alot of money they'll be happy. It goes the same way for high-end/ dream cars. They can only be enjoyed with the right perspective.
I've achieved some dream cars already and if I expected them to make me happy I'd be absolutely miserable. Don't get me wrong theyre great but only because I don't place my sole happiness in them. I'd continue to expand but I dont want to rant to hard. The older I get the less I care about hp and specs realizing all I really need is my near stock nc miata lol.
10000000% yes
@@TedwardDrives I can elaborate on this topic and philosophy for hours. Its also one of the most important things I try to communicate to other car people usually younger. Its like yes that 700hp xyz car is aswsome but please understand this point. You can lead a horse to water...... loved the video btw as I do qll your others but this one hit deeper which was great. Nice mix!
Yes!!! We have evolved sir. I’ve owned so many cars with higher horse power/torque and none of them are as rewarding as my 2020 nd2 Miata!
So glad to see I'm far from alone here, I'm trying to not write a book here and instead I'll just say the '96 C4 Corvette was not just the worst car I've ever owned it was bad decision making at its finest, and the '97 Miata I replaced it with gave me 14 years of mostly joy, a few rough times (none of which were that dearly loved car's fault!) and the single best day of my life! I miss that Miata, and I need to do something about that.....
But if you missed out in your youth then as you get older you would have regret that you never lived it and want to experience it "while you still can".
Car problems ? Monetize your car problems by vlogging them - Hoovie Tavarish
Haha accurate. As long as there’s an audience it can work!
As someone sitting at the desk thinking 'get me outta here' it's inspiring to hear you talk about your journey. I might be leaning too much toward the 'tuck money away for later / wait until I'm a millionaire to start working on something I actually want to' camp. It's a delicate balance for sure. Thanks for your thoughts.
Thanks Keith..it's a touchy subject. I also put so much pressure on myself to have fun on my vacation days, that it was harder to enjoy them. Instead of having a great time an unwinding I felt like i was just blowing money for the sake of it. I see these folks who go climbing in converted sprinter vans who spend as little as possible while connecting with themselves and think THATS IT. I don't climb so my version of it would be driving cars all over the country.
@@TedwardDrives lmao oddly enough that’s why I started climbing. Besides just my desire to be outside and “see the world”, I appreciated that mindset so much more over just having more things to satisfy myself. It’s a mindset that can be adapted to everyone as well!
You’re one of the most real and relatable content creators I’ve seen! Thank you for quitting your job 😂 Great thoughts and driving.
*there’s two ways to be a car guy... spending money on new cars that depreciate and replace over and over again... or buy cars that are more unique and already depreciated.. which you can replace often also and not lose much of anything.*
*Most people who drive new luxury cars are in debt.. most “average” rich people drive older cars they bought cash*
It's true! Every car I have every purchased (including the 911) was a depreciated used car that I found on CRAIGSLIST!
I fall into a third bucket: buying new cars but paying them off and not selling. It feels good when you have a paid off car that's only 4 or 5 years old and you know who maintained it and how it's been treated its whole life.
So true
@@ryanmcfarland1900 agreed. thats a great way to have a reliable daily driver. :)
Totally! Undervalued classic cars are the jam! For example I just bought a used v12 jag for $1000. Put a manual in her for $5000 and what else can you ask for?
I work in banking...and the amount of clients that I see that have a 60k, 70k or 80k car loan on an 84 month or even 96 month term is insane!! And these people are making at most 50-60k a year. Very common out in Alberta for guys to have the 80k truck while working construction making 50k a year with overtime. Crazy stuff
I can see the truck being necessary if it’s directly related to your job. But a bmw isn’t necessary for anyone making too little
Yes, I’m in Calgary and I am seeing many younger drivers driving these brand new small SUVs. Local economy has been poop these days and idk why they’re taking out big loans.
It comes down to, "How much car do I really need?" There's something so satisfying about a stylish, base model that achieves great gas mileage. I also think older people in older Mercedes know what's up. They always look pleased. Smug bros and trust fund kids will be just that lol.
My sister is always talking about how she wants a mercedes and porsche. She is the person described by Tedward. Always looking at the instagram models thinking "why not me?" "I need to keep up with these people" "Having x car will solve y problems"
While I'm just here happy to have anything that will move
Dude I love your car honestly it’s so clean and I love the mods
Thanks 🙏
Been following you for 2 years and stumbled across this video in 2024. I struggle with exactly what you said in this video. I’m a 20 year old college student and I just wish to have my dream cars so I work almost 30 hours a week and don’t wanna spend money on nothing. Honestly man living like this sucks. I really appreciate the guidance, this video really changed my mind set.
You're basically driving the car I want for my every day driver. The only things stopping me are having zero knowledge of what's a good buy, and what's a lemon, and where to have it serviced... Not to mention the INSANE prices of the older air cooled 911s these days. Had an opportunity to pick up an '86 930 in the Kansas City area back in 2011 for around $55k, but passed it up instead for a brand new Subaru STi. I'll regret that decision the rest of my life. The Subaru was everything I wanted, but also everything I didn't want (I'm sure you know what I mean by that). To this day I still wish I had gone for the Porsche, even if I wasn't in the best financial position for it at the time. I'm doing great now (good job, zero debt), and I'd happily settle for a late 80s non-turbo 911, what a beautiful vehicle. I'm very jealous! Thanks for sharing, drive safe, have fun, and keep the great content coming!
Thank you for talking about the financial aspect of being a gearhead and actually being realistic about it. I feel like we often see the well known auto journalists talking about how great the cars are, but not addressing the elephant in the room - that hardly anyone can afford the cars they are testing and praising.
This takes Ted talks to a new level..
😂 I’ve had to restrain myself from calling it that. I’m sure they’d sue me
You were talking about being happy for what you have and not wanting more, then you drive through a scenic spot. That’s what’s called satisfaction.
"I did not know that I lived so close, to some country ass country." Hah! I lol'd and spit up some tea
You're going to do some dope shit on this platform man! Keep up the awesome videos and endless variety of cars!
Thank you! Trying to get as much done before the snow hits. Then I may need to start traveling to warmer climates lol
Loved this message! Absolutely agree. Contentment with what you have gives you a sense of peace that you don’t get when you’re stuck in the hamster wheel of consumerism.
Thanks for making this video. Lately I've been super fixated on all the things I want but can't yet have. It's important to recalibrate your head and appreciate what you already have!
Viscous cycle of buying, loving, wanting, buying
My Dad had an '80 model back when I was in high school. So good to hear that engine
randomly found this video thinking it was just gonna be a 911 driving POV but DAMN bro straight spittin facts
So true! I come from the same philosophy. My old boss once mentioned to someone who compulsively saved every cent as someone who "had the presumption that he was definitely going to wake up tomorrow.". Then again one can spend over zealously and stress out over their financials in the future.
I'm not sure about your situation, but maybe there are ways to invest in funds that grant high dividend values to provide yourself with a baseline income till this channel takes off more! Nonetheless, loving the content!
My car (2002 OZ Rally Lancer) was given to me by a relative so I didn't pay a dime for it. It has its flaws, almost 100k miles, transmission doesn't seem to be in the greatest shape and I've already thought about replacing this vehicle with something else. Yet, I love the car, and after driving it for over a year, it has made driving my favorite hobby. I'm hoping to be in a financially stable position when the time comes for me to get a new car. For now, I'm trying to resist spending money on this car so I can have more money to spend on my next car.
I've only watched a few of your videos, but I have to say, man I love your energy. Level headed good clean advice. The motto gets me too #respectthedrive
Thank you Josh!
You right g I used to be envious when I would see people around my age get new nice cars from their parents or big loans but then I realized it’s better to earn it through hard work/saving so when I do get my nice car I will appreciate it much more.
This video is truly funny and talking about reality about people who spend excessive money they can't afford. i think it deserves to get more views lol
Thanks for the chat, this will be the motivation to get me through my schoolwork today. I quit my job back in May to go back to school this year, and it's a lot of work. But this is a reminder that if I work hard, maybe some day I'll get to where I want to be, and in the meantime, I have to make sure to enjoy myself where I can with what I can afford. You've gained a new subscriber! Also, I really like your videos about cheap cars.
It's like that Sheryl Crow line: "It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got." Loved your earnest reaction to finding those backroads and that mystery slide. Also: I drive a Mazda 2 because I love cheap thrills.
These financial discussions are something I love hearing about. I'm a new professional, approaching my 1 year of moving out of my mom's house and working a desk job (web design & marketing. weeeeee)
I've been saving like a mad man since I moved out. The part where you said "what's the point of saving all your money to not spend any of it" did kind of hit me. I bought a Miata as a fun 2nd car over 2 months ago, and still have lots of cash leftover. Now, i'm stressing over spending a few hundred bucks on suspension, knowing I'll have plenty of money left. sometimes you have to buy what you want within reason... and this was really reassuring.
You're the kind of person I'd get coffee with and chat about this sort of thing. If you're ever in the Worcester area, let me know LOL
Is good to have a balance between saving and spending. I think is good to save as much as you can on your 1 or 2 first years of working.
One of your best..you are on it when you do these more philosophical pieces...
Thanks John! I was thinking about you when I filmed it for that very reason. As the channel grows these can become more frequent. They don't reach much further than my subscriber base so it's tough to get videos like this in new viewers recommended feed.
at least for right now I'm sitting happy in a 2017 Hyundai Tucson Sport. it's obviously a Hyundai SUV but it's my first car and I love it. Every time I drive it (for the most part) I end the drive with a smile on my face :)
Remember when I started driving and all I wanted was a manual car. My weekend car is a 2010 Yaris and I have loads of fun. My daily was a 18’ BMW S1000RR. I prefer slow cars and fast bikes even though to much speed kills the mood for me. I’d rather have something unique with heritage, history and a nice exhaust note with simple easy maintenance. I would reserve exotics for special occasions as rental for the experience. I have 0 debt and have driven plenty of cars. I never had to drive a Yaris but something stuck with me. A Miata or something air cooled is in the future for sure as it’s track time.
I dont really watch too much of tedward casual videos. I usually just watch his car review/pov drive videos. But i love how straight forward and blunt these videos are. Gives off the same/similar vibes as RegularCarReviews
So true. I used to have a Audi S4 but sold it to save $. Got a Fiesta ST and it's more fun, not only because of the handling, but I am never worrying about any large repair bills. I drive it hard with no regrets.
I think i've been babying my M3 because deep down I worry that it's going to blow up lol
@@TedwardDrives 😂
Excellent advice. You'll do just fine man. We're similar in many ways on viewpoint it seems. I didnt get my Focus ST until I had enough money to write a check for it. I still financed it with a big DP.
I financed a used 370z and paid it off in a year, I was so hesitant to finance but my one hobby is cars and I do 'therapy drives too. I wanted a fun and quick car but it would take me ages to save up the cash to buy it outright. I thought yolo and financed it but focused on paying it off as fast as I could.
So I believe in a combination... you need to enjoy life but not throw all of your cash away to be living paycheck to paycheck.
Such a great video. The biggest problem is everyone comparing themselves to peeps on IG, 80% of whom are fake. Appreciate the things in your life that bring you joy. Do what makes you happy and do it often.
Also, how tf have you never been to the waterslides as a kid dude??
I immediately asked my mom if she knew about those slides. I feel robbed.
Sound advice. Many folks of all ages in our country get caught up in the race. The cliche is true, money doesn't buy happiness. Yes, it can buy comfort, convenience, and time, but not true happiness. Some of the wealthiest folks are so miserable, and some of those who have nothing are happy as a clam. Finding one's own personal life balance is the key. Cheers!
I hope some young car people hear this video and take some of it to heart. Im good with money in general but by far the stupidest decisions ive done were all car things
You're saying some very wise words right here! I totally agree. First of all, you don't need an expensive car to have fun: I drive a '91 Mercedes 300D, which is not really known for beeing a fast car, at all...but I still deeply enjoy that car because it's an engeneering marvel, it's very confortable, and extremely reliable. It's the kind of car that will last longer than you, therefore you can have amazing memories and moments with it... and to me, that is what it's all about...
Man this is no joke the most wholesome honest and visually pleasing footage anywhere.
thank you for doing this and I bet youre gonna have a bunch of subscribers in the next year or so, that 100k is coming soon.
Can’t thank you enough 🙏
This is currently one of the channels I watch while eat and that means it’s important
Honestly I didn’t watch the video before I commented that but I feel like i’ve dug a huge hole for myself. I’m sixteen and my mom helped me loan a 2018 dodge charger r/t I still owe 30000 on the car and it pains me to have to pay this because I knew I’d be stuck in this trap. I had a 1996 mustang that I wish I could’ve rather been with that car than my charger.
Consider selling it, get out. Admitting it was a bad idea is the first step, taking action and resolving the misstep is the important one. You’ll thank yourself later when you can buy the car in cash if it’s still something you desire. New cars are the worst kind of debt.
“Livin that yolo life” Good way of putting it, haha sounds like me
This is exactly the car I dream of! Well with a 505 package (slant nose).
Totally agree. You can see material possession like someone driving a 2020 GT500 but you don't see the car note they have to pay. There's inherently a disconnect in that money / material relationship as the former isn't physically in the same space as the latter.
This video should be on the front page of every automotive channel. I think it would be very honorable of RUclipsrs to give an idea of how much they make and if they actually buy out cars or take loans, especially the younger RUclipsrs who influence young audiences. People need to know when they can "afford" something and when they should be saving for like a house.
this is a great reminder. thank you. i think im moving too fast with the upgrades on my ZHP, first bmw. i got all the preventative repairs out of the way for the most part and wanna start performance mods but i truly cant afford it so i shouldn't. your videos are therapeutic for me. hope this comment helps the monetization
Truly the best to listen to talking. Enjoying these videos so much, thanks for opening alot of peoples eyes.
@2:15 “what is the point of dying with a bunch of cash” I love that line. But the fear of running out before dying is so real it makes my hair stand up.
Beautiful landscape,, everything looks better through the windshield of a classic 911.
I’ve always bought cars with cash and I occasionally think about financing something but it’s just not worth having a car that’s 10-20% more fun but you can’t actually afford to have fun in it. Having the money to destroy tires and brakes at auto cross or track days is nice.
It's very inspiring you do this. If you manage it well, I don't think you should worry too much. I also love the mindset you have, something I also appreciate in other people; "enjoy what you have, don't spend what you don't have". I recently bought a miata and that was even scary for me LOL. So it's very inspiring to see you make this shift. This makes me feel even more inclined to watch your videos lol.
Cheers man.
Thanks Elias! Enjoy that Miata
This isn't related to the topic but as a 16 year old with a Porsche 944 and never being inside of any other porsche, I am for whatever reason freaking out over the interior of your 911 just seeing some of the switches, or the gauges, and Im in disbelief because my car has the same ones, its so weird and so minor but I love it 😂
944 interiors are beautiful! I’m always pleasantly surprised when I get in a 944 how familiar it feels
@@TedwardDrives I honestly do like it a lot, thanks for the reply! I may have only just found your channel but I love it! Keep it up!
We don't talk about money in our fam. Definitely worth discussing. 👍
I think it's really important to understand what it means to "afford" something. It is different for everyone but I hate seeing young people dig their own financial graves so early because they think they need an expensive car
Pretty sure we were cruising down 495 south at night a couple weeks ago together... I have a silver 911 (991 gen). I live in southboro and cape cod... we should get the cars together sometime and hit up some back roads
2 or 3 weeks vacation... *Laughs in German* I currently have 6 fully paid weeks + another ~14 days public holidays (fully paid). But i agree with what you say. I'm a software developer and my wife is a manager of a local supermarket. No kids for now. We could easily afford a supercar at around 150k€. But i paid my Jaguar F-Type in cash (3 year old, deprecated like hell, so a good buy :)) and my Kia Stinger GT (bought new with still 6 years of waranty, its our "safe" car). So i can enjoy both cars fully because i dont have any debt.
My wife and I only need around 1900€ a month to live (everything, even cars and rent, included, and i dont need extra retirement savings because it's already paid with part of the wage, healthcare also). Im not a FIRE movement guy or something, but it just comes naturally to us to safe around 60% of our income.
What i want to say is: dont be stupid and if you buy a car, be sure you can EASILY afford it twice, if not thrice.
came for the 964 stayed for the deep worldie knowledge
Another lovely video dude! respect the Porsche!
Thanks!
The attitude of this video is great, love the commentary of the scenery mid conversation... (is it a conversation if you are the only one talking?)
good question...i feel like I'm talking with the viewer and doing my best to anticipate the questions you'd have. I guess it's a conversation if you feel compelled to talk back to the video lol
appreciate that you share this train of thought with us along that beautiful scenery, which is definitely a very Halloween-esque one!
Thanks! It was actually getting pretty creepy out there. Looks like a horror movie set when you start seeing the horses and sheep near a dark brown farmhouse with no lights on
Great content Your videos always make me feel like I’m just sitting there and we are having a conversation and enjoying the ride. #respectthedrive
Thanks Brian!
Lol “At least respect the kids” That caught me off guard 😭
The key is finding financial peace. Everyone is going to have a different vision of what that looks like but once you find it, you'll never go back.
StreetSpeed 717 comes to mind with the discussion of this video lmao, I still watch his shit though.
Great as usual Ted! Keep the videos rolling mate!!
More to come!
Best of luck man!
Great video. As an enthusiast I feel driving something with character is more desirable overall than driving something expensive. I decided to splurge on a 2016 ND MX-5 as my daily driver back when it was new, and I've found it is a good balance of driving fun and reasonable cost, and it always just feels special to drive and even just to look at. The justification of reducing the worry about needing unexpected repairs for a few years helped me decide on it over another used one. It just worked out that I needed that due to having too many other moving pieces in my life at the time to deal with car problems. It always depends where you are in life personally and financialy. But sometimes I wish I were less risk averse because I've always wanted something European from the 80s or early 90s but the fear of too many sudden unexpected expenses keeps me away. Maybe some day.
I'm an Alfista, but man, my dad turned me into a Porsche guy...and your are putting your fingers into my wounds ahahaha
Haha I feel the same way but opposite every time I drive an Alfa!
I don't want to sound arrogant, I've been stuck on my starting salary for 2.5 years now, which is not going to change because of COVID-19... but I am extremely careful to have very few fixed costs and can save 1/3 of my salary every month to buy nice things like a good road bike or a 1999 Mazda MX-5 NB.
I have invested a lot of money in bicycles this year, but I also ride them to work every day.
LOVE THE TUDOR BLACK (BLUE) BAY 58
Thanks! Borrowed from a friend. Just gave it back but I think this is up on my list with a speedmaster
@@TedwardDrives for sure, I believe chris has a speedy. Anyways Ted, this was a brilliant video it made sense. I'm a college student right now and I dont own a car as of right now maybe after my 4th semester. I always thought whatever income I made, being a huge car enthusiast, I'll never cross more then 50 percent of my annual income on a car. That's just my philosophy, hopefully that's good but yeah. I respect your decision alot and hopefully I can do the same.
@5:55 I believe you were looking at one of my favorite places to go spend the day growing up in the 90's, a.k.a. "Breezy Beach". I can remember cresting over those hills right before the sight of those freakin awesome waterslides in the middle of nowhere! (Probably why I love backroads so much today) I'm not sure how much the have built on the land now, but back in the mid 90's they had two waterslides, a snack shack, grass/BBQ area and a giant lake to hang in. They also had an awesome arcade with Mortal Kombat, Crusin USA and Lethal Enforcer. Thanks for this!
You have a great attitude. Enjoy what you have, and strive hard for what you really want/need. Dream big, but don't limit yourself by unrealistic expectations that will only leave you comparing yourself to others and feelings of isolation. Live frugal, but know when it's the right decision to spend money appropriate to your savings. And most importantly....Keep Calm and Drive On!
I’m a Boston transplant from SoCal and I would LOVE it if you could start sharing some of the specific areas that you are driving in. If it’s something you would prefer to stay loose on, even the general region would be a help!
Yeah. Love the Porsche
The big issue I have is when people argue that you should only buy used fun cars. While used cars are great for those on a budget, there won't be any fun cars left if the only people that want them are only buying used. The ones that will be left will be so rare that they become unaffordable even when used.
Basically, if you are in a stable enough financial position, buying a new fun car isn't all bad. Sure it will depreciate and will be pretty expensive up front compared to a Camry or Civic, but you will be adding to the percentage of people who bought the cars that journalists rave about. I wish to at least be in that kind of position one day, but there are plenty of ducks to get in a row beforehand.
For now, my 20v-swapped AW11 bludgeons and deafens me enough, all the while teaching me more about the meaning of raw driving! 🤣
I have to say I’m on the “save it” side. I did the brand new 350Z back in 2007. Scrapped up the 30k cash and realized I had hardly any savings left. Now? I make almost double 6 figures at 40 and drive a 2018 Civic.
Do I still build Cayman T’s every week? Yes. Do I know that wouldn’t hurt me one bit financially? Yes. But I still save. Because millionaire is rigggght around the corner. Then I’ll buy a watch. And a Cayman. And a suit. Lol
you should make a segment (drive therapy) cuz it's working for me, anyways 10/10 video and love the view .
1:25 relatable. It took me four years before I figured out how the climate controls worked and that I a wiper delay switch in my 944.
Just want a chill job by the water in a low col area. Goal isn’t to make money. It’s to relax
Funny I was just having this conversation with a friend. All these M cars, Mercedes and Raptors in the lower-middle class neighborhoods. The same goes with houses. How many people in NJ can really afford the $700k + houses that they're buying like candy. I agree wholeheartedly with you.
And the ritual continues of going out for coffee with a little therapy drive in my na miata to come back home and watch tedward therapy drive cool ass cars, hell yea
Keep up the great work Ted people will find this gem of a channel and wonder why they didn’t find it earlier.
Thank you Jackson!
Live within your means should be taught in school, not as a scare tactic, but as what freedom will come from it. Also.. David's taste in watches 👌🏻
7:58 haha that a lot of crack sealants so it seems like you would feel you're going on either cobblestone road or off road haha
All my cars were used dream cars. Two 4runner's, BRZ, MK7.5 Golf R Manual. The VW was almost new at 1500mi but I saved a bundle. Not sure what's next. Really excited for new BRZ and GR Corolla. Always looking at used Cayman's and 911's tho.
I need to drive that GR corolla
The heat control is just like my ‘74 Beetle 😭 that’s super sick
I love this type of content. I'm 16 and I stress and plan finances more than anything, love to hear your opinions!! 👍
Honestly, I have a racecar (old E30's bmw) and I literally don't take it out if I don't have money to do that trackday AND have enough over to instantly replace my fridge + washing machine + road car at least. I just bought a new road car so I'm in the saving money phase :)
*this is going to be long* ... Sometimes it is good to quit a job and just slowdown and smell the roses. I have been moving NON STOP since I graduated high school neary 10 years ago. college, work, school, work, work, work, work.. I have never stopped and have not had a break at all (other than the occasional vacation or holiday. Some people in Europe and other countries spend whole months OFF with no work or school to explore and find themselves. I have not been able to do this and I am probably burned out with work. I'm finally at the point now where I am happy/at peace with what I have. Participating in track day showed me it doens't matter wether you have a Honda or Ferrari, any driver can be good in almost any car. My Type R is very enjoyable and also actually will be reasonable to run in track days. Once my car is setup for track, I only will need to worry about consumables. The car is very reliable and suprisingly puts up with alot of punishment. The only thing I am doing to my Type R, is minor suspension upgrades, brakes, seperate set of wheels and tires for racing, and maybe some extra aero, better grill and hood vents later on. Beyond that my engine will be unmodified and my engine warranty will stay intact lol. I'm not tuning the car becuase it has plenty of power for a road course. My main goal is improving cornering speed and consistancy. So I don't have to worry about the cost of replacing a whole engine if something goes wrong.. but I think the Type R engine is BUILT to handle the track, after all the valve adjustment don't even need to be checked until 100K miles... i'm no even at 8000 miles yet. until then it's only, oil changes (which are FREE at my dealership), air filters, brake fluid changes (hopefully not often with the fluid i will be running), tires each season etc. I literally used to push myself in College becuase I told myself I will never have a Porsche 911 GT3 if I don't... I don't want a GT3 anymore... my Type R gives me the same feelings and experiences that a GT3 would.
I also have been trying some activities to earn money on my own terms (investing/trading). Also had some other ideas. Point is I just want to give myself time to LIVE. My 9-5 is NOT my life and I have done as much as I could to disassociate myself from that. I always think that whatever choices I make I don't want to look back and regret, Jeff Bezos mentioned "Regret minimalization framework" well before he was a Billionaire and now we look at him now. I think if someone can make money that is not tied to TIME even if it's not millions of dollars, they got it. What people don't realize is working a 9-5 actually gives ZERO leverage, as soon as you stop the money stops. Money that is not invested to grow with compound interest is almost nothing... you spend it then its GONE... then you get to spend all that TIME (something you dont' get back) to try and get that money back. It is a vicious process. That said, I don't think working is wrong but I think the idea that working a 9-5 makes people rich is wrong. Investments, business ownership, etc is the only true way to build actual wealth. 9-5 can be a gateway to doing those things, but on it's own a 9-5 is NOT going to make someone wealthy.
I don’t know what else to say but YES haha. I’m glad you’re enjoying your type R and not feeling like the experience is inferior just because it’s not a gt3. Seat time is important. The car is an accessory
Cool to see a RUclipsr in my area! Lots of great back roads around here, only downside is they're not long enough or the roads turn to shit.
Jesus man chill out with these good ass videos haha
hahaha
Im 21... own an investment property, and I'm a stock broker for a big bank. I just bought myself an LCI m4, and live with my parents xD Love the videos! Keep em up man!
Budgeting is important. I definitely recommend using an app like Mint. As much as I love cars, it isn’t smart to buy cars worth as much as your annual income. I can’t believe people are doing 84 month financing.
😳
The craziest bullish is that people still walk into a dealer and be like “i clear 3400 a month. My expenses are 2700. So I can afford 700.”
If i did that madness I could have a Bentley and a Turbo S. The people have gone mad. (Ps I drive a 2018 Civic lol).
The rule is that you can finance a car for the value of your anual income. If you ear 50k a year, then you can buy a 50k car. But I don`t know, in the US you have very great classic sports cars for a very cheap price , I would go for a few of those cars insted of buying a 50k new car.
@@firebird442 dang so I can upgrade my civic to a GT3RS?! Deal!!!
@@j.3854 Sure if you earn 200k/year
I totally understand where you’re coming from. I’m luckily in a spot where I’m able to save a little bit of money and my car has been paid off for years. My dream is to fully own an air cooled 911...like yours or a 964 or 993. They’re super expensive though. I’m thinking if I just hold on my car for as long as I can, I might be able to make it happen someday and have a reasonable daily driver on the side.
I'm in love with this vids! that Porsche sounds lit!
Thank you Tomás!
Imagine living in a country 2 hours away from Germany yet that same $80K M3 costs $150K instead (because unjustified "reasons"). Cashier makes $8K a _year_. He or she will never ever ever have an M3 or be approved for the loan. Being a car guy born in America is hitting the jackpot, enjoy it, take advantage of it as much as you can.
I really want one of these guys. What would be a good first car to really help experience me for a Porsche 911? I want to be a professional driver, and I think this would be a good 2nd or first car. I've been eyeing some E46's to learn on, but I'm not sure yet. Any ideas?
Get an E46, I have one and with coilovers, exhaust, and intake. On a backroad with the top down (convertible) the closest I can relate the driving experience to is a Porsche
