NC was the site of first flight but Ohio is definitely the birthplace of aviation. And sorry to burst his bubble, but the record for the longest continuous flight is held by Robert Timm and John Cook, who flew a Cessna 172 for 64 days, 22 hours, and 19 minutes in 1958-1959.
Thank you for sharing this and all of your flying adventures Hayley!!! Hope to see more videos like this from you in the future. Happy safe flying love!!! 💖🛩💖
Whew! Give yourself credit for giving that pilot a thorough BFR. I don't doubt that you gave him a good refresher on emergency procedures! PLUS, had it not gone so well, your name would have come up...
It was wild to see his Comanche lose power like that. I loved flying in it, and it ran great when we flew! Just goes to show you always have to be ready. And yes I'm a big believer in doing emergency procedures for BFRs 👍
Spent many hours at El Monte, kept my 172, 150 and 177RG based there back in the late 70’s. Back in those days you used to report entering your downwind over MONTGOMERY WARDS. Does anyone remember Montgomery Wards?
Happy Birthday Hayley! Great flight thanks for sharing, its awesome you both had a great time and flight. Trivia question answers: First powered flight is a two part/place answer. 1st) In 1848 with a light-weight wood frame and close fitting silk or cotton fabric and a steam driven engine, he successfully accomplished some short flights in a large empty room in Oram's Mill, witnessed by many people. Therefore, John Stringfellow of Chard was the first to achieve recorded, powered flight. 2nd) On December 17, 1903, two brothers from Dayton, Ohio, named Wilbur and Orville Wright, were successful in flying an airplane they built. Their powered aircraft flew for 12 seconds above the sand dunes of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The longest flight recorded: Still undefeated record: The world record for the world's longest continuous flight was set in 1959 by Robert Timm and his co-pilot John Cook. Months in the air: The men flew a modified Cessna 172 four-seater aircraft for 64 days, 22 hours and 19 minutes. (Information from "The Longest Plane Flight Without Landing")
I thought that the longest non-stop flight was the around the world flight of the Rutan Voyager in 1986. Although, if the qualifier was for single engine, that might be a Bonanza.
The Voyager holds the record for the longest nonstop unrefueled flight & it was around the world. A USAF KC-46A (military version of a 767) tanker recently set a record by flying 45 hours nonstop around the world with two complete crews & a flight surgeon onboard. It was refueled in flight by other USAF tankers & tanked an assortment other USAF aircraft along the way.
Thanks for taking us along, Hayley. You video feels real. I liked how you captured the lightning when landing. Could you do a video of you loosing your engine and all the details to get the plane safely on the ground?
Thankyou! We perform a maneuver called a power off approach that simulates an emergency situation like losing your engine to land. Actually turning your engine off in a single engine airplane is dangerous but will have to get the simulated maneuver on camera sometime!
@@FlywithHayley It would be interesting to really turn the engine off and show us what the plane sounds like, how the plane feels like as a glider, how you decide what to do when there is no runway nearby, and what goes through your mind when you know you have only one chance to put the plane safely on the ground. Have you flown a glider?
Fun video Hayley! I noticed that your right seal between the wing and fuselage is loose/flapping. Nothing big, just a heads up. Look forward to your Oshkosh video!
While first flight was in NC. Ohio, more specifically Dayton, Ohio is where the Wright Brothers developed and perfected the Wright Flyer. that work was done at Huffman Prairie and was where they really learned how to fly and control their aircraft, that site is a National historical site (Part of national Park system) inside of Wright Patterson AFB. In the years leading into WWI and the between years leading to WW2, they actually had a factory (Still standing, but the runways and most of the other things are no longer there) on what was then called McCook field which was the key R&D and manufacturing site for the Army Air Corp. so the home of powered flight is Dayton Ohio and when it comes to development and management of modern Military Aviation that would still be Dayton Ohio. You should come see it all, Carillon Park (another national site with an original Wright B Flyer, and of course there is also the national Museum of the United States Air Force (the largest Aviation Museum in the world). it would take you at least 3 days to see it all.
"'Fresno Yosemite International', what mnemonic should we give it?" "KFAT." 🤣 I grew up at and flew there a few times out of a nearby spot... without looking it up, guess: KNLC.
I just subscribed today. I plan to watch more of your videos. So far I think you are a good pilot with a good plane. I like the Debonair, it's a pretty plane and built well. By the way, it's pronounced Gabe-ree-el, not "Gab-ree-el" in So Cal.
The statement that it was a Beech Bonanza that had the longest non-stop flight was only correct after 1949, and it was only the longest non-stop SOLO flight. In 1986 the Voyager, designed by my friend Burt Rutan, flew non-stop around the world without refueling, and it had his brother, Dick (who passed away this last May) and Dick's then-wife, Jeanna Yeager, aboard.
Haley, curious the routing you flew, the altitudes, etc. Try this next time. Forget Kingsbury (Dagget Pass.) Too much traffic & potential Sierra Wave action late in the day. Instead try going across where Hwy 88 is & then turn SW toward Columbia when you’re over the Hope Valley then turn SE down the valley between the Lemoore MOAs. Before Columbia you have Bear Valley for emergency landing if needed. Shortest route over the Sierras I have found. 10,500 to Columbia, then 11,500 to the L.A basin over the Tehachapies. Curious why you went down to 7500 then back up so high before descending to the basin.
Will have to try that routing! I don't do the pass in the afternoon for that reason- but I like the sound of more places to land crossing the Sierras. In Southern CA the winds were better down low but had to clear some terrain coming into LA so went back up to 9500 as I got closer to KEMT. Was a fun flight and SO much better than the drive :)
Columbia airport is a great place to try if you haven’t already. Amanda’s cafe is 1/4 mile walk. Just go straight through the admin building down the road to hwy 49 & go right. Amanda’s is on your left about 100 yds. Come to the AAC (Airport Advisory Committee) usually at the Minden Courthouse, sometimes in the CAP office at MEV. It’s the first Tuesday each month at 6pm. Lots going on at MEV. Your input & ideas would be welcome.
Which state first flight? A lot will say NC because of the Wright brothers, but you are actually flying over where Lyman Gilmore said he actually flew before the Wrights did. Nevada County, California.
In footage of 15NC taken from the right wing (minute 15:20 and more) there appears to be black sealant flapping along the wing root. Hope that is not a safety issue.
Hi there from West Sacramento. Really love your videos - however, for some reason, your audio on this video was very distorted. Your passenger's was fine. It sounds over-driven and clipped. Hope you can get that corrected. :)
Ohio is where the Wright brothers lived and did their research, so...'Birthplace of Aviation' North Carolina is where they actually made the first flight, so...'First Flight' Clear as mud??? I'm in Alabama, so I don't have a dog in the fight. 😎
Great video Hayley! Love this part of GA and being an airplane owner, this is what it’s all about. Your radio calls, as crisp and precise as ever - a controller’s dream! Thanks for taking me along 🤗 P.S. did you have to redo your W&B for the extra “passenger” 😜
The wright brothers did some of their work in Ohio. Some in North Carolina. They flew the first successful powered flight in North Carolina. The Hindenburg was a dirigible. Not a blimp. The dirigible has a metal framework. A blimp does not.
..........Dear Hayley, I'm your biggest fan in Devon Pennsylvania, but I have to tell you - it's kind of irritating listening to your exchanges with your friend over your radios. It's hard to understand what you're saying. You have at least two Gopro-type cameras in your plane, and I'm pretty sure they record sound - I guess it might be a pain in the ass, but if one of your Gopros has an audio in, couldn't you run a separate mic and attach it to the stem that holds your radio mic, to bypass the scratchy radio comm audio? I get it - the engine noise is pretty loud, but a good mic would attenuate to your voice, wouldn't it? Oh well. Never mind.

It looked like the flashing by the right wing/airframe was moving a bit. Great flight.
That looked like fun. Thanks for bringing us along.
What a great video man! It looked very fun! The Beechcraft Debonair is also so great!
Cheers 🥂 Hayley! What a video! 😊
thanks!! was a fun trip :)
Love this video, love Hayley, love the trivia, love your plane. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing this and all of your flying adventures Hayley!!! Hope to see more videos like this from you in the future. Happy safe flying love!!! 💖🛩💖
I soloed at KEMT back in 1973. That brings back some memories.
Great video (and really enjoyed the music. The Dirty Guv'nahs is one of my fav groups.)
Hayley thanks so very much for your nice video I grew up in Downey please keep on making your videos and always fly safe
Evening twilight, with those cells in the distance...magical.
we thought so too! it was also very smooth over the mountains after the sun started to go down
Hello Hayley Herberg, That was a nice plane ride of you down to LA for a Birthday. Hayley, You always proved that you are a successful pilot.
My buddy has a Beechcraft bonanza and I love flying it.
Thanks for taking us along. Happy Tuesday
Good morning from Minnesota! Great episode! That Pikachu is epic!😂
thankyou!! didn't know if it would fit in the cabin but it did :D
Happy Birthday Hayley! Great flight and a butter landing at KEMT, and with a stunning moonshot over Debi's nose!
thanx hailey r u a lucky person do feel giddy making these videos and flights and incorporating them into dailey life regardless keep flying hi

Perfect landing 12 of 10 looked so dark or dusk from cockpit but other views show light fading but perfect timing

No way! I grew up down the street from the El Monte airport!!

Also just based on range alone a variety of aircraft can go farther than the Bonanza.

Looks like your right wing rubber gasket(the seal between the wing and fuselage upper side, below your cabin door ) is loose.. needs some adhesive!
It is the San Gabriel Valley, includes El Monte, Arcadia and Temple City and several other cities.

Nice flight flight into El Monte...thx

Great video, like always.
Try Long Beach airport next time it's also really close to Downey

Kill Devil Hills near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina! Enjoy your videos!
Pikachu would make a great SIC!
The step material on the right wing is flapping in the wind. Can see it from tank camera.
yeah I noticed that too- having it fixed when I change my oil soon! airplanes I tell you there’s always something
LOL Try saying N202RR (my tail #)over and over. Great videos thanks Hayley. Check your right wing to fuselage rubber seal.

Longest nonstop flight record was set by Rutan Voyager around the globe (Rutan and Yeager pilots) nonstop without refueling in 1986.
Nice flight. I noticed your step tread was flapping a bit as seen from your starboard wingtip. Need a dab of glue?
Just an FYI - Your wingroot seal is flapping on your right wing… I had to replace mine. Easy to do
Which state first flight? A lot will say NC because of the Wright brothers, but you are actually flying over where Lyman Gilmore said he actually flew before the Wrights did. Nevada County, California.
Landing by moon light 🌕
Better check your video. The rubber where the right wing meets the fuselage is moving around, don't want to lose it. BTW: I'm 84 and love the videos.
In footage of 15NC taken from the right wing (minute 15:20 and more) there appears to be black sealant flapping along the wing root. Hope that is not a safety issue.
it's not! just needs more adhesive, it's there for aerodynamic efficiency
NC!
Most calm emergency I've ever heard.

aviation started in North Carolina on December 17th 1903
Did my training at EMT
Check your right wing fuse seal looks like its loose.
noticed that getting it fixed soon! thanks 👍🏼
NC - Devil’s Kill or something like that. 🎸
I mapped it because I was curious. It would take roughly 8 hours to drive that. Without stops.

Bro come on… forgot your wallet? Better get a clue before this goddess trades up. 😂😂
San Gabriel (long A, like Gabriel Iglesias "Fluffy")
how long was the trip and how fast were you going?
Looks like a seal coming loose under the passenger door.
Would not the longest flight be the Voyager flown by Dick Rutan in 1989? I believe he went non-stop around the world.
👍😘⚾️

Her Mic was too close to her mouth.
@dmpyron2 It as not, this is normal when the input level to the voice recorder is too high. Sometimes an attenuator is required.
Hayley? Who had the first powered flight in Australia?? Give you a hint... It wasn't a magic trick.

There's no room in the cowling for it.
