Mail slots are not unique to space stations, an engineer can add them to your DBX in exchange for a *few* materials.
As for the biology scan magazine, there’s one of those in the Sidewinder (though the cover has been changed to make it look like a *pilots hand book* )

The first time I ever logged into Elite, it was in VR. I took a few minutes just looking around the cockpit. Spotted the "Space Traders Flight Training Manual" in the side compartment and realized I'd just come home after a 30 year absence.
That feeling has never gone away.

With a DBX, you're going to need a little more time fuel scooping those stars. The small fuel scoop is a deal breaker for me.

at 100kg/s (3d fuel scoop) i fill my tank up before i finish the fss

​@@sakatababaYep. If you don't have anything to do while scooping, do a FSS. Might not be much for most systems, but it adds up - and provides a practical incentive to scoop often

@@HalNordmann besides, i scan a ton of systems to refresh the cannon data while i travel. if a system has nothing to scan, i can safely jump to the next before i filled up my tank. i know i will fill it up at least every 3 systems because there is no way you find every system empty in a row without outright planning the route that way.
heck, i remember the time before fss and dss. you had to look up for paralax effect of the stars to discover bodies that are 100kls away from the main. fss has sped up the process by orders of magnitude and it is apparently still too slow for some...

This reminds me a lot of pre-Odyssey exploration.
I was in my yellow DBX and, no matter where I went (out of the Bubble), there would always be somebody else around on the planet surface, no matter whether it was a player or an NPC!
I was out there exploring, obviously.
