  • The first video in a series where I cross Mexico on an ebike. My first attempt failed, but on my new ebike, I am certain to succeed.

I'm planning on doing the whole of Mexico and South America, on a Bosch powered Diamond back. I can get 72 miles on 1 500wh battery fully loaded. I got 2 batteries. I plan on hauling a trailer, 6 panniers, and my cat! Little much for my 520 to handle, and honestly and ebike just gives you more options. I train on my regular bike because building climbing muscles is just easier on a regular bike. Handling a heavy ebike at 4 mph fully loaded is a lot harder than a regular bike, you'll blow you're knees out trying. I did lose 70lbs last year riding only me ebike though!

So glad I found your channel there is not many ebike touring videos.
I have been considering the same trip down the Baja on my Reise and Muller ebike so I'm watching your series trying glean as much info as possible
Good luck on your continued journey and I look forward to more of your videos

Thank you so much for your comment. It was the experience of a lifetime and I highly recommend it. Mexico has plenty of affordable options for hotels because you will always need a place to charge your batteries. I recommend bringing an extra battery which I used every day.

@JimsWanderfulWorld yes I already have an extra battery for my bike which I purchased right away with anticipation of such a trip.
I live in BC and have a winter home in Bucerias Nayarit so was planning to ride from here through the US then down the Baja

This is epic! I ebike 40+ miles a week on my Ride1up LMTD ebike, 3000 miles in 1.5 years. I didn't watch the whole video, but are you carrying multiple batteries? Most only last 20-40 miles depending on PAS setting. El Cajon is in San Diego, where I live.

I have an extra battery and I could usually go at least 80 miles.

@@JimsWanderfulWorld What is your PAS setting? To get 80 miles you must using PAS1 with very little motor assist and mostly leg power..

How do you ride comfortably on Ebike? They don't have rear suspension. At least mine is hard on my butt and back. I enjoy getting out but the bikes suck

I use the Suntour suspension seat post and the WTB Volt seat and so I can ride for about 6 hours comfortably but after that, I get sore.
