Glad to see you are adopting a helmet. I think you would be surprised at the situations you maybe haven't thought about where it would very possibly help to protect you.
In my youth I had a friend who cycled competitively and one of the disciplines he liked to compete in was hill climbs; Back in those days helmets were not required for hill climbs. It was after his run, coming back down the hill that something went wrong and he ended up going over the handlebars at a relatively slow speed, striking his head on a roadside kerb, resulting in a blood-clot on the brain that required invasive surgery.
He survived, but was never the same person again from that point; Complete change in personality and not for the better. It was very sad to see a friend that had been a gentle and thoughtful person become aggressive and uncaring. He literally changed in to a different person.
I'm sure a bike helmet would have helped considerably.

Yes indeed that’s exactly the sort of circumstance they are designed for, a fall off a bike. The problem is they are used to derail discussions about driver behaviour & infrastructure and where a vehicle hits you at speed they are unlikely to help because they (can’t) be strong enough

@@Ebiketouringlife I partly agree and understand your viewpoint, if you get '3rd partied', then it may, or it may not, help and I completely agree about sidelining the more important discussions surrounding driver behaviour & infrastructure.
I suppose it's down to individual preference really, if you want that extra bit of 'potential protection' for those first party mishaps, being thrown and striking your head on the road type of impacts.
Anyway, I personally think it should not be mandatory to wear a helmet; people should be able to make a choice for themselves.
I'm looking forward to seeing your Spain tour btw.

The last few years I have been using Forclaz MT500 hiking shorts and MT500 merino t shirts. Great products at great prices. I dont really dig specific cycle clothing and prefer to have multi purpose gear that works well cycling or hiking. Forclaz is a Decatglon brand. Well worth a look.
