Their culture is not the same as USA and not surprisingly he's been knighted twice already for his contributions to cinema and culture, in both Denmark and France.
But Downhill was such a masterpiece compared to Force Majeure, which was about as subtle as the avalanche. Still waiting on that Toni Erdmann remake, the original was such a bore.

I come from a family of alcoholics. So I was a little uneasy when they started showing it as being wonderful and good but then they showed it going farther and becoming a problem. Now I am very interested in seeing this movie.

Dude this is a very sad movie, i remember hearing people sniffing and sobbing in the theater, and i too teared up more than once. This isn't a comedy, the trailer gives off the wrong impression, this is not a shallow superficial movie, it's an extremely deep movie, with very sad undertones.
I wonder were that got the idea from.. Many countries have people basicly doing this all the time as part of their culture.. Which country was it that kids would take small wine bottles to school for lunch.. Is their any science behind this or did they think it was just a cool idea.. Their was some science I read many years ago about positives from Red Wine in communities that drink it a lot.. They found health benifits (Heart??) due to the Tanins and Anti Oxidents in it etc.. But this is drinking in moderation rather than to excess..
Just finished this film. My god. Mads Mikkelsen is a legend. What a fantastic actor. One of the greatest of all time. He deserves SO MUCH more hype than all the overrated young actors that are becoming overnight sensations for such average performances. Mads conveyed so much just through his eyes. One of the best performances of the decade for sure

NGL, I legit teared up at the end of this movie, very unexpectedly this film did a sad/happy thing at the end that messed with the chemicals in my brain. Mads never disappoints with his Danish film choices, seriously, he knows how to pick em' and he always does them justice.
Just watched it. Loved it. Very touching and profound. I laughed a lot and cried a bit at the end. The ending was brilliant! The shots are beautiful. And Mads Mikkelsen should have been nominated for an Oscar!

Oh dang, I didn't know that. I am a recovering alcoholic, and it was extremely hard for me to stop drinking. It doesn't get easier for me to stay sober, but it's just not as hard as time goes on. I give them man a lot of respect for that.
What a Movie, Motivational Inspirational, help you to understand that life is only for once and you should enjoy it to the fullest. The ending can surely give you goosebumps and could make your feet dancing instantly.

I really enjoyed watching this film. it had all the classic ingredients, humour, sadness, and depth. When specs threw the rose on Tommy’s coffin I bawled like a baby. Alcohol does not always have to mean misery. The trick is understanding it in oneself but for some that may take a lifetime.
The reason it won academy award acc to me is because it was something fresh and new. I mean the idea is amazing. 4 drunk teachers to find the last passion in their life embark on a journey to drink alcohol responsibily but what awaits next is not what they planned.
Vinterberg and Mikkelsen together is such a great match! I also see Thomas Bo Larsen; who although Jagten ruined him for me as I only see Lucas' traitor friend now, is really great too!

Watching him drunk was the best thing i couldnt stop laughing.
Loved this film, and loved the positive feelgood ending. Mads is the best actor working today. He would run rings round Leo, bale, or phoenix. So underrated.

Yes, pretty similar to Norwegian schooling as well. What aspects did you consider especially unusual, Ajay? We didn't really get to see that much of the students at school outside their classes.
He may be talking from an Indian perspective. This Danish school has far more freedom than many of the most open (freedom wise) colleges in India. Not even PhD students get this kind of liberty.

I never heard of this film until I arrived at the cinemas today. I wasn't expecting much, but I ended up giving this film an 8.5 out of 10. Mads Mikkelsen is an acting genius. Don't be surprised if this film gets an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Film. It's very good. Do yourselves a favor and go and see it!

From the first tones of that piano, I know I need to see this movie. Makkelsen rules btw. And my fish wok was really yummy.

I never heard of this film until I arrived at the cinemas today. I wasn't expecting much, but I ended up giving this film an 8.5 out of 10. Mads Mikkelsen is an acting genius. Don't be surprised if this film gets an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Film. It's very good. Do yourselves a favor and go and see it!

Thomas Vinterberg is yet another great director of our generation one day will win an oscar hollywood have no clue what world cinema holds.
I think to win an Academy Award you now need to belong to a minority or two so good film directors shouldn't give a crap about such awards.
