Tip for the wellness check on the chickens. Put some blue tape (tuck tape works well) over the light. Chickens can't see the blue light the same, so they stay very calm, but it doesn't dim the light too much so you can still see what you need to see.

Looks like you'll have a nice garden this summer and I know all us viewers will enjoy your gardening videos. Getting the manure frozen is probably the best way to handle it, rather than when it's soft and "fragrant". Those buns you baked looked so good. I could almost smell them. Ginger growing tips: best done in a shallow container, well draining mix and use a tomato cage to keep the crazy huge canes under control. Cutting off the whole canes retards the plant's ability to make and store the energy, ie less ginger production.

If you can find plastic sleds the same width as your bed you can use those as drawers underneath your bed. I use this under a bed at home and after putting you items in sleds or bins you can slide everything out from under the bed for access to still use all the storage under your bed.

This is what I love to see people doing, starting there own seedlings for their garden. Very nice. If it hasn't yet been mentioned, and if yer not doing this, I would recommend getting some smallish low speed fans to blow on yer seedlings after they've grown a few inches. This will help with elongation and help to eliminate stretching. It provides cool air to slow down the plants up- growth and fattens the main stems called the apical dominant stem. You guys are awesome. Please 🐝 safe in all that you do. Happy seedling growing

Your rhubarb comment made me smile, I can hear my mother saying “here, have mine” she had it so much as a child at boarding school that she can’t stomach it now. I love it with apple in a crumble. I probably wouldn’t have snipped that ginger leaf off right down there, but perhaps half way. Only because the leaves will still on half a stem would still be photosynthesising and making food for the plant and you can keep it trimmed up. Whereas you now only have the one stem to make food and the development of little rhizomes will be slower now. Am looking forward to seeing your garden develop, the one at your old place was amazing.

I would add a mud room as far as your roof sticks out and during the winter could put generators inside and vent them properly so fuel lines dont freeze and hang work clothes and windows for starting plants or a skylite. maybe a small tent type wood stove or a vented propane stove.

Hey guys, maybe you could look into a slide out rack system for under your bed. You could easily access more of your storage items underneath your bed. You could just pull the rack out to reach things underneath..I'm sure you could come up with a system that would make your life easier and give you access to more of your storage. Good luck! Good luck also with your new garden high tower. Looking forward to seee the results of your labor. As usual, you guys are doing a great job!

If you have to do a bunch of loads with the dump use your generator and a battery charger in back of the truck, put it on boost when you go do dump, will help get it off the frame. Lots of people burn out their electric pumps by running them really low.

I remember as a kid my aunt and uncle lived in Teslin Lake Yukon they had such amazing gardens because of the long days. Knowing you are starting seeds makes me think I'm behind the growing curve. Back to my aunt and uncle, they fished a lot, and all the fish guts went in the garden. I couldn't believe how big the cabbage got. Loved the video !

I overwinter our Rosemary every year inside. Just a good sized pot because the plants can get seriously big. Also loves more water than you would think. A clay pot with a drip tray seems to work great for us. Our particular Rosemary plant is over 5 years old at this point.

I got a 6-pack of those lights off that jungle website for $99 free shipping. I'm using the same rack as you are, but I only use 4 shelves. The bottom one is full of 5 gallon pails with a San Marzano tomato plant in each, the first set of lights (2 of the Amazon lights with a single tube LED light between) are attached to the bottom of the shelf above it with a ratcheting pully system. That shelf has 6 window boxes of herbs. Chives, Scalions, Thyme, Basil, Parsley, and Oregano. Same light setup on that shelf. The next shelf up has 24 doubled up 500ml (2 cup) deli containers with a mixture of San Marzano and Roma tomatoes. Same light setup on that shelf. I'm in zone 3b, about 120 miles north of the Saskatchewan Canada / Montana USA border. You might say the city I live in is the belly button of North America. Next year I hope to put up a 10x10 foot greenhouse so I can grow more herbs and start a few veggies and maybe even strawberries.
Those buns looked fabulous! My buns rarely turn out that big nd fluffy.

For the bed, you could use a system I’ve seen in tiny houses / RVs where the bed is raised and lowered using a chain and pulley system (some use a modified garage door opener to move it), which would give you full access to the floor beneath the bed during the day.

In Europe they add a seed room or what I suppose would be a kind of greenhouse structure on the side of the house, and it heats for free and if you leave a gap rather than a door it helps to heat the house.

Thank you for another delightful video. I feel blessed that you share your lives with us.
Wondering what you are going to do with the quonset hut. Have you considered putting in a plant growing room near one of the rear corners?
Each currently unfinished building ends could be finished with (1) walk thru doors, (2) garage doors for vehicles, and (3) lots of windows.
One corner for gardening, seed planting room. One corner for storage room. One corner for a guest bedroom. Fourth corner for an extra kitchen or something else you need. All in consideration that you will have heat, power, and water in the Hut.
Best wishes for 2024 and the future! Very excited about your new garden!!!

You could do some big shallow wooden boxes and put them on casters and put them under your bed to store everything in..they pull out really easily.
You could make a small extension on the back wall of your cabin...use the window and make it into a door...you could make a small bedroom and it would be heated from the stove.
You could use logs if you wanted in keeping but it might be easier to put insulated conventional walls and a sloping roof....a bit like your chicken coop.

Big Lake here... We have a small cabin, too. We hang our winter clothes... snow pants, hoodies, jackets, along the top of our bed frame. They dry out faster, and it also blocks out some of the early morning sunshine. Nothing like putting on warm winter gear before you go outside into the elements. Love your content 🫶
