I'd try obey the rules of the road if you knew you had time to drive appropriately, as others would be trying to do the same and at crossroads the last thing you need is people crashing into each other, that's 2 cars potentially stuck in a crossroads, making it hassle for other cars to drive around, which would slow everything down as a result. If there's a huge pile up of cars, it's a complete hurdle for others to get by. But if that thing's chasing you and you haven't got time to wait for a green light and such, time to turn on Survival of the Fittest mode and fuck the lights.
LightWarrior breaking the speed limit is illegal no matter what the situation. If the tornado catches up with you and kills you, you will die a hero for obeying the traffic laws in the face of death.

you have to slow the wind down by - flying kites - pull your coat open - open all the car doors/ hood /and trunk / if there are more people around / get them to do the same - this will slow the wind down / when the wind has stopped it is customary to all sit down and have a picnic.
So instead of stopping on the other side and letting it pass -and then continuing, you decide to play chicken with the finger of God. Are we supposed to feel sorry for you? It’s a wonder this species survives at all.
Pro tip from a person who knows a few things about tornadoes: don’t try to race them.
