Pete Ham is amazing on this, like Clapton and Hendrix rolled into one package. RIP Pete, you were among the best, and I hope one day history will acknowledge it.
You GOTTA love it! There's just no 4 piece bands like this anymore! High and tight and trading off jams and vocals like this! I can't really see anyone doing it like this anymore, theres no group interaction like this.. Everybody wants to be the star instead of the band being an entity unto themselves!
With how great Pete Ham was at guitar before he died, just imagine how much better he'd be if he was still alive today. And, for those of you who haven't heard Joey Molland play since the 70's (or the 80's, for that matter), his playing has gotten quite a bit better! Now if only some live stuff of Badfinger's would be released on DVD.
You know, The Ivey's were kind of thrown together to become Badfinger, and they excelled as muscians and song writers. With the exception of early James Taylor, they were the best thing to come out of Apple. A Fucking great band! They didn't deserve the shit that was handed to them. Live Long Joey!
this is one of the coolest videos i've ever seen- i like the other one on "Midnight Special" too. Both are the coolest videos. I can't get over how amazing Pete is with the guitar. He is friggin awesome. They all are. Wish i could see them in concert. RIP Pete, Tommy, Mike
Nowadays we dont have music like this anymore, so sad. These were the days 60-70's. They sound far better live than the studio, raw power, one of the best bands ever.
thanks a million, some posting, first time ive heard this and im 51, badfinger, are the buisness, pete ham was so versatile, r i p fellas, and thanks for all that music, still fresh today,
Damn! I've watched this video WAY too many times, yet the improvisational switch-off between Pete and Joey never fails to ASTOUND me! They are my musical heros, these guys. Love them so much.
I still think this is one of the very best bands of all time. So much talent. Masters of their art. So glad we have these great old videos around to see them at their best.
Shows How a group of People can make some dare i say' ...? magical Moments' Music' saw something about' so n so is the best in the band..., I believe its the Wholeness of this group of Four that makes n made them so Dynamic' Incredibly Tight' creative. Frick'n amazing band. Love that they first gave it to themselves than shared it with us for all to enjoy.
wow, a whole different sound. So sad that they didn't have someone in their corner, we'd still listening to them and they would be up there with the rest of the A list musicians
I've been listening to Badfinger since they became a band and have the highest regard for them but I hadn't heard this jam until today. Wow is all I can say.
This is an incredible Jam. Not to take anything away from Pete here, but no one should fail to note that a LOT of the great lead guitar work in this incredible Jam is Joey's and that Tommy's bass is amazing, too. What a great band!
this is up there with the very best of british talent, and these guys should be recognised for the great contribution they made to music, not to mention the impact they made on my life, rip guys,
wow man. the jam was incredible. joeys solos petes solos and toms bass riffs. this has to be one of my favorite videos. such an amazing band...sucks how not that many people now about them anymore
thank you for posting this for a badfinger fanatic this is awsome..peter ham was a brilliant guy and thank G-d joey is still on the road playing this music to this day..long live bad finger next stop cleveland!
Pete was a real triple threat, songwriter, vocalist and kick ass guitarist. He must have been a bit of a threat to Clapton and the other rock gods in his day, not that he would have even accepted such accolades. He was humble as well as gifted.
not sure if my message was recieved, but just in case, pete and the boys are just timeless, and we aint gonna forget you at all, badfinger, foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
amazing live performance. If a live album had been issued of these when they were still together & recording it could have made a huge difference in the bands carrier.
@wevans770 Thanks God someone realized in1970 or 71 that this performance needed to be documented. I don't know why thery did it but I'm glad they did. This is not expendable music!
Wow, they're really packing some heat there. It's one thing to play slide fluidly - but to combine it with wah - that's very hard to do. Kudos to our Pete for this beautiful performance! And to the rest of the boys as well. Looks like the George guitar he's got there, and do I detect Hiwatt amps?
And why aren't they in the rock n roll hall of fame? Someone has to explain that to me. Pete Ham is an amazing guitarist and writer. Badfinger is such a unique band. They can pull of all types of rock.
They could do it all. Write beautiful ballads, all out rockers, everything. That they never got the proper recognition and getting screwed by a scumbag manager and the record companies, and then tragically losing the heart of the band. They deserved so much better.
Another rock song that I found by Badfinger. Makes me wanna rock. The dual lead guitars near the end is my favorate on this performance. It's hard for me to understand why these guys were never number one.
What I find really amazing about Pete's playing is that he's got that Clapton thing one better, and at around 3:26 sounds like Hendrix, and then goes beyond that. Yet, he doesn't look like he's breaking a sweat. What a great all-around talent he was. I can't think of anyone today who has all the attributes he had. What a fucking shame. This band deserves to be in the R&R Hall of Fame.
NezMaccaHam: I've watched this one a lot and, each time I do, I just can't help but be amazed by the talent that these four great musicians had! If only Pete Ham's guitar work was seen for what it was--especially while he was still alive. I think people would then have easily forgotten about those who are often thought of as "guitar gods," like the highly overrated Slash (no offense meant to him, but he's just so overrated).
Suitcase [Original Version] [bonus track] - Badfinger [England] - 1971 - "Musically, it's a great early-'70s boogie rock number, featuring some sterling licks from both Molland and lead guitarist Pete Ham. One of their BEST." - Straight Up [Bonus Tracks] (Capitol)-1993. NOTE: This live version is longer then what's on this CD, BUT what a revelation!
@andmoreagain9 I go to southern now and didn't know that. Boy I would love to see these guys live too bad I am WAY to young. They should be in the R n R Hall of fame.
Now that was some kick-ass Badfinger ... the way they always claimed to do it. Watch the "Midnight Special" version of this tune...and then flip a coin for fav vid !
@redskies12 I met Mike at Beatlefest 10 years ago. Chatted about drums too. He told me "You can have a crap drum set and still be a good drummer." That inspired me to keep my POS kit, albeit in storage. He was a great guy and a damn good drummer. I highly recommend his "More Annoying Songs" cd.
Just imagine if Pete Ham hadn't died...he may have very well eventually gotten as popular as Eric Clapton! And, also, it would've been awesome if Pete Ham and George Harrison had the chance to do an album together (along the lines of how Chet Atkins and Mark Knopfler did the album NECK AND NECK). Ham is definitely one of my favorite guitarists...if he had the chance to get even better than he was when he died, he'd probably be my favorite today!
Ahhhh the SG...probably rocks most underappreciated axe.....I play an SG standard, although I love the LP..it kills my back, I get most of the same sounds I would get from a Les Paul....plus I think the SG is much more versatile....Clapton started on one...then went to the Strat...Pete is making his SING here.....:)
The way they do the ending here sounds just like KISS at the end of 'Black Diamond' on the Alive! album. Wouldn't be surprised if Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley were influenced by Bad Finger.
Pete Ham is amazing on this, like Clapton and Hendrix rolled into one package. RIP Pete, you were among the best, and I hope one day history will acknowledge it.
This alone is worthy of Rock hall of fame presence.
I was "there" when this came out and we NEVER thought this sounded like the beatles. We thought it sounded like them and what a great song this is!
one more thang....so that's how a REAL drummer with talent plays.YEA baby
My son, also a great guitarist, watches this video and says "Pete Ham never found a bad note." Top drawer guitarist, always.
Okay, seriously THAT is how you play the wah on guitar. This is simply genius.
This is hands down one of the best jams I've ever seen. These guys rock. They rock hard.
Still one of my all time favorite live band videos. Just excellent.
Intense. Masterful improvisation. Wow!
You GOTTA love it! There's just no 4 piece bands like this anymore! High and tight and trading off jams and vocals like this! I can't really see anyone doing it like this anymore, theres no group interaction like this.. Everybody wants to be the star instead of the band being an entity unto themselves!

Now if only some live stuff of Badfinger's would be released on DVD.
Thanks for posting these videos. The bass is pretty funky! Way to go Tom Evans................
love how this song continued to develop after the studio versions
I was born in 61. This is really cool to watch jammers before my era. Unique players puttin it down. They are an inspiration to me.
You know, The Ivey's were kind of thrown together to become Badfinger, and they excelled as muscians and song writers. With the exception of early James Taylor, they were the best thing to come out of Apple. A Fucking great band! They didn't deserve the shit that was handed to them. Live Long Joey!
Great to feel the Love from the all the comments about Badfinger's music. So many years have pasted and it's still there.
this is one of the coolest videos i've ever seen- i like the other one on "Midnight Special" too.
The black keys are a bit similar to this
thanks a million, some posting, first time ive heard this and im 51, badfinger, are the buisness, pete ham was so versatile, r i p fellas, and thanks for all that music, still fresh today,
Damn! I've watched this video WAY too many times, yet the improvisational switch-off between Pete and Joey never fails to ASTOUND me! They are my musical heros, these guys. Love them so much.

Wow, first time I've seen this video....blown away!!! This song showcases their talent & makes me even more sad at such a waste!
Wow...good old fasion jamming! The ending was ahead of it's time. They were GOOD!
Great Jam...I always thot Tommy's lead vocal on the final verse brought this tune home.....
Shows How a group of People can make some dare i say' ...? magical Moments' Music' saw something about' so n so is the best in the band..., I believe its the Wholeness of this group of Four that makes n made them so Dynamic' Incredibly Tight' creative. Frick'n amazing band. Love that they first gave it to themselves than shared it with us for all to enjoy.
awesome stuff! I always thought this was an outtake from a Beatles album but The 'Finger were killer writers in their own right!
OMG Tommy Evans kills that last verse! He should have been singing during the whole song!
wow, a whole different sound. So sad that they didn't have someone in their corner, we'd still listening to them and they would be up there with the rest of the A list musicians
I've been listening to Badfinger since they became a band and have the highest regard for them but I hadn't heard this jam until today. Wow is all I can say.
Another rare treasure. Proves they weren't just a puppet band.
I could listen to this all day.
Thank you for putting this up, rafer.
Musically, it's a great early-'70s boogie rock number, featuring some sterling licks from both Molland and lead guitarist Pete Ham.
who needs american idol, this is REAL music!!
The more we buy, the more we support their families
They are confident and likable band
Great guitar by Pete ham
This is an incredible Jam. Not to take anything away from Pete here, but no one should fail to note that a LOT of the great lead guitar work in this incredible Jam is Joey's and that Tommy's bass is amazing, too. What a great band!
this is up there with the very best of british talent, and these guys should be recognised for the great contribution they made to music, not to mention the impact they made on my life, rip guys,
I agree with you, Pete does an excellent job on the slide parts for this jam.
Wow! A STELLAR PERFORMANCE BY A GREAT GREAT BAND. Thanks for posting this raferdurham.
Simply awesome
Goddamn this is awesome
pete was outstanding
this was a real treat first time i've ever heard this.
Saw them in 1971, Southern Ct University - they rocked the house
wow man. the jam was incredible.
joeys solos petes solos and toms bass riffs.
this has to be one of my favorite videos.
such an amazing band...sucks how not that many people now about them anymore
I had no idea Pete played slide. This vid is the shit!!!! Talk about a great live jam...this rivals Humble Pie Live at the Fillmore. Thanks Rafer!
I'd give anything to see this stuff being played today.
thank you for posting this for a badfinger fanatic this is awsome..peter ham was a brilliant guy and thank G-d joey is still on the road playing this music to this day..long live bad finger next stop cleveland!
lucky man, that is some session, like a fine wine just gets better with age, badfinger, just bad to the bone and so gifted they had the lot,
This was outstanding! Thank you!
Pete was a real triple threat, songwriter, vocalist and kick ass guitarist. He must have been a bit of a threat to Clapton and the other rock gods in his day, not that he would have even accepted such accolades. He was humble as well as gifted.
These guys were so damn good. Too bad the music industry abused them that way.
It´s really great ! and both guitarists playing very much like Eric Clapton (Cream-era)
not sure if my message was recieved, but just in case, pete and the boys are just timeless, and we aint gonna forget you at all, badfinger, foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
amazing live performance. If a live album had been issued of these when they were still together & recording it could have made a huge difference in the bands carrier.
@wevans770
Thanks God someone realized in1970 or 71 that this performance needed to be documented. I don't know why thery did it but I'm glad they did. This is not expendable music!
I agree Tom Evans takes over at around 6:45 and he is a master.
I was a teen rocker in the 70s but I didn't listen to much a Badfinger...my bad....they were very very great musicians.WOW...!!!!
Fantastic!!! Fantastic!!! Fantastic!!! Fantastic!!!
Fantastic!!! Fantastic!!! Fantastic!!! Fantastic!!!
Fantastic!!! Fantastic!!! Fantastic!!! Fantastic!!!
Badfinger forever!!!
Great one!
And why aren't they in the rock n roll hall of fame? Someone has to explain that to me. Pete Ham is an amazing guitarist and writer. Badfinger is such a unique band. They can pull of all types of rock.
Bloody fantastic this!!
classic badfinger jammin session,
They could do it all. Write beautiful ballads, all out rockers, everything. That they never got the proper recognition and getting screwed by a scumbag manager and the record companies, and then tragically losing the heart of the band. They deserved so much better.
great posting thanks abunch, you three kings r i p ,
Another rock song that I found by Badfinger. Makes me wanna rock. The dual lead guitars near the end is my favorate on this performance. It's hard for me to understand why these guys were never number one.

What a Jam!

tragic end to a great band
As we say here in Brazil....sonzera!!
badass
George gave Pete that SG

WHAT A GREAT BAND.ROD PRICE WOULD HAVE BEEN PROUD OF PETE HAM ON HIS SLIDE HERE
@andmoreagain9 I go to southern now and didn't know that. Boy I would love to see these guys live too bad I am WAY to young. They should be in the R n R Hall of fame.
miss you peter!
Holy cow!!!!!
From 7:00 where they break it down is where they stomp the crap outta this hot number. WOW !
Now that was some kick-ass Badfinger ... the way they always claimed to do it. Watch the "Midnight Special" version of this tune...and then flip a coin for fav vid !

nice,
@Derickthe9thBeachBoy Duane Allman was totally pulling off licks like that in the same time period as well, just a note.
Alot of people "borrowed" licks, riffs, songs from Badfinger. They were just that damn good.
Breaking Bad brought me here. Btw, this vid is so fcking classic! Thanks for the upload! Awesome!!
@Derickthe9thBeachBoy
This whole song is awesome and would obliterrate all the competition!!
