Saw Ramanathan Krishnan playing tennis in the news reels of Films Division. He beat the greats of those times ; persons like Roy Emerson and Rod Laver. He was an artist . He reached Wimbledon semifinals and passed on his artistry to the Junior who also reached Wimbledon quarter finals and played some great games for India in Davis Cup and even Olympics. I wonder if there is a father-son duo like these two anywhere. They were instrumental in making Madras as the tennis capital of India.
Thanks for bringing them on the screen. I sincerely feel they largely remain unsung.

Thank you for the refreshing interview with 2 of our 'forgotten' sporting legends of the past. It's so nice to see Mr.Ramanathan Krishnan in such good spirits, even at his age! However, I wish that you devoted more time to talk about their tennis careers, the legendary matches/ opponents they faced, etc. etc! Afterall, Ramanathan Krishnan was a 2-time Wimbledon semifinalist, no Indian player has gotten that far since! That would've really made the interview more complete.

Thanks to Ramanan, Mr. Krishnan’s brother in law TSR SUBRAMANIAN, I had the distinct privilege of watching Krishnandefeat Roy Emerson in the quarter finals of Wimbledon in 1962 .Ramanan had invited me to watch the match from Mr. KRISHNAN’s box. What a thrilling
Experience and I remember well how Krishnan had put on a Master class that day. The evening culminated with a group of Indians
led by Ramanan playing cards in the Indian YMCA Hostel in London. This was the evening prior to Krishnan ‘s match against Rod Laver. What stands out the great Krishnan, above all else is his utmost modesty, humility and simplicity in everything he did. He deserves to receive
The country’s highest award for the glory and fame he brought to India. I hope the tennis fans in India, petition to the Govt of India that he be
awarded BHARAT RATNA at the next chance they get to award. I will be very happy to join in. My name is S.N. Krishnamurthy and I am writing
this from Oakville Canada. Ramanan used to refer as “ Natur.

I also feel Ramanathan Krishnan should have been inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame. There is a picture of him playing and mention of his contributions to Indian tennis at the Tennis Hall of Fame, though. In my opinion Ramanathan's backhand was as good as or even surpassed that of Ken Rosewall! Ramesh Krishnan is an amazing player as well and winner of junior slams in Roland Garros, Wimbledon and Orange Bowl and had the potential to become a top 10 player. I have great admiration for both these legends.

My father was a tennis fan. I remember in the early fifties he showed us kids the news in Hindustan Times which was the only paper we used to get that a 13-14 year boy had defeated his father who himself was a state level player. That was just the beginning. Soon he won Wimbledon Juniors. Thereafter he was almost always in the news. I was studying in college when he came to my city and I took his and Akhtar Ali's autograph. I still have them. The great Ramnathan had hardly retired when the third generation Ramesh started hogging the sportspage headlines. Great players father and son. If only they had a potent serve! They would just lob the ball across the net.

Over seven decades back I watched the Davis Cup tie in Chennai between India and Mexico. The star
player of Mexico was Osuna and for India Krish. Unfortunately, Krish lost to Osuna. One newspaper
reported ' while the Mexican Ace ran here and thither the court the Indian Ace looked more like a
spectator of his own game.' But Krish tamed Rod Laver in a Davis Cup tie played in Australia that too
was in sraight sets. Krish never lost in Wimbledon to any player lower seeded to him. For a Davies Cup
against USA our team went to the states. Nobody from our Embassy went to receive the players at the
Airport. One Newspaper reported that Krish took control. The greatness of Krish was he was always
on top of any such situation. During a Davis Cup tie played in Pune Krish was at the losing end. A
spectator shouted from the stand ' Go back to Madras '. Krish quietly went near the stand from where
the shout came and extended his racket to that spectator telling him to take it and play in place of him.
This gentlemanly gesture of Krish came for great praise from the press. These are some of my rememberances of one of the greatest ever players produced by India. I can only think of Dhyanchand
of hockey as another greatest player ever and none else in that era though they are not contemporaries. What a soft spoken gentleman who made singlehandedly the country proud in a
game at a period which was least played and least popular so much so he had no opportunity of
even practising with another player of his calibre. May God bless him with excellent health. I take
pride to salute him through this comment section.
