A native of Charlotte, NC, Matt graduated from U.S. Naval Academy in 1991 with a B.S. in Ocean Engineering. He graduated Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training in 1992 with class 179 and was subsequently assigned to the East Coast where he served in various SEAL Teams, SEAL Delivery Vehicle Teams and Naval Special Warfare Development Group (NSWDG). Matt commanded at every level in the Naval Special Warfare Community to include a Squadron at NSWDG, SEAL Team TWO, Naval Special Warfare Unit THREE, and Naval Special Warfare Group FOUR. He served staff tours at the Joint Special Operations Command in Fort Bragg, NC; as the Operations Officer at Naval Special Warfare Group TWO in Virginia Beach, VA; and in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict (ASD SO/LIC) in the Pentagon.

What an incredible guest and amazing episode. Major props to the 2/75 Battalion Recce guys for digging deep for our SEAL brothers. Matt Stevens is arguably one of the most distinguished SEAL officers ever but you'd never know it from how humble he is. Lots of wisdom in this episode.
Served during the 1990s RRD in Just Cause and we always respect the SEALS but mission execution was a bit leaking on ground ops/HVT HVI mission ops We were still a Regimental element prior to JSOC…We did op under SOCOM & with CAG before tier 1 redesignation.
You guys have phenomenal interviewing skills. You ask great questions and always let your guest speak without interrupting. Thank you all for your service to our great country 🇺🇸

I think i have lost count just how many guys that were involved with the recovery effort of Operations Red Wings say that the RRD guys were on a completely different level. Now youre hearing it from a DevGru Squadron Commander. @1:20:34

Boy you are not the first Seal that I've heard say that the first they knew about the Seals was through that Parade magazine article! That definitely affected some people big time!

Had Teammates get disabled permanently using our boats, most definetly dangerus. Even when the bullets arent flying. Just the method you use for infil and exfil can get you killed.

We've had three SEALs on in all of 2024 so far. We had I believe three SEALs on during the entire year of 2023.

I was a marine have been around seals a bit always respected them...but today this silent professional thing in the seals is gone...and I'm team seal but nowadays you have not just seals but fucking devgru online making videos...with Delta this just doesn't happen I don't know nearly as much as I'd like to know about Delta because they just don't broadcast anything the way it should be.
Those seals love spreading there bullshit and love making up bullshit a few guys are ruining the seal name and the quiet profession everybody one up each other
