He was the first PJ to ever attend and complete the Green Beret Recondo school and the very last NCOIC for Rescue in Vietnam when they closed the last section. They make many sacrifices as do their families to keep our country safe. The Special Operations folks are all incredible and outstanding examples of the best our nation has to offer. I stand in awe of these patriots. May God Bless them and keep them safe.
Just some perspective (from someone that was at sea) Y'all gave a mission to a multi million dollar piece of equipment, forged a story for her crew (which is probably a couple hundred people), expended a few hundred thousand dollars in 24 rounds, and all in a short planning period. To say y'all need a crane for those massive balls is an understatement...

No one else brings such insight into interviewing the people who have lived at the very point of the spear. And their stories are often so compelling. BTW, your story about your night NAV op during BUDS was the funniest military story I've heard.,

This is an amazing story, and I'm sure there are stories unfolding that we'll never know, but are all pieces of what keep us safe. Great story, great storyteller. Damn, that's some shit
Another awesome aspect of that story is that fires mission validated so much training and work for a bunch of guys who would otherwise probably never get to do those things in real life. Made a lot of people's day I'm sure.

I had a similar Flag Officer debriefs back in the '90's when I worked Non-Disclosed Programs. I have always appreciated the candor of Flag Officers towards the men doing the dirty work. I think its because they have made it to their Flag position and aren't so concerned about their careers as the O-6's are and care more for the people they are tasked to lead and the efforts that those personnel have put forth into the mission. Granted there are still muppets who only care for themselves but usually its not the case.
These are the men that protect us from those that would do us harm... Huge respect, mostly because I know the conditions that they operate under and a friend of mine was an FBI agent who routinely accompanied these guys, CIA, DEVGRU, DELTA, etc. on ops where a live apprehension was a possibility . From an aging AFSOC Spectre gunship pilot from the 80's/90's. Great post, Shawn!
Not to diminish from any of your other exceptional guests or shows, but this was F***ing awesome! Thoroughly enjoyed and laughed out loud several times!
Wonder if you guys could do a show with a old school Vietnam Vet who did LRP and crazy spec ops stuff swap stories with these modern guys. Probably be pretty epic. The differences between spec ops then vs. Now.
John Stryker Meyer went on Andy Stumpf’ podcast with Mike Glover. John was SOG during Vietnam and was doing black operations in Cambodia and Laos, Mike was a CIF and CAG guys during the GWOT.

Thanks for bringing these guys in so we can get an inside of our bad boys who are working hard to keep our freedom even know our current tyrants are trying to destroy this country knowing we have had enough of them!!! I have a feeling America is about to be strong as it ever has been here in a few short years!
I called my brother after watching this and he knew a Master Chief on that ship, and he was totally psyched because they had just qualified for that mission.
If this shit happened in the movie, you wouldn't even believe it. That's a fucking awesome story! Hats off to the people that were involved in it. They did a great job.
What a cool story even with no high value targets being bagged. Gotta watch the rest of the interview. Thx for all of your hard work on getting these guys talking so openly!!!!!!!!!!!
It always surprises me how operators from Delta and DEVGRU can openly talk about those 2 tier 1 units, but when it comes to Task Force Orange/Intelligence Support Activity all they'll say is "another Army unit based in Virginia" or something to that effect. That's obviously where the true secret squirrel ninja shit goes down.
I kind of wonder if they're labelled that way, because of how obscure they are (that, or the fact that they seem to have a thousand and one names).. I always found that the true secret squirrel ninja guys were contractors. I've heard of even more secretive SMU's; but the most secretive, is the one that doesn't even exist. And I don't mean contracting companies either; I mean an individuals hired to do a specific mission. In addition to coming with the needed skill-sets, the government has no obligation to help them out of a bind.
I love this particular gentleman. He has a great way of relating the stories of the stuff he’s been through but he doesn’t sound and look all hollow and mentally wounded as some of the other podcast guests. He’s just chilling having a conversation. Awesome stuff. 🫡
This has been one of only a few stories, I was on the edge of my seat listening. A Big Shout Out To Our Men And Women Who Serve ! God Bless America And Her Troops 🙏♥️🇺🇸✌️
If this man was a team leader, he would have high survivability. He is very smart and tactical with his knowledge, would definitely make a good leader with his instincts.
I am just loving the way Chris tells these stories- I could sit in a room with a dozen of the smartest people on the planet, load them up with whatever makes them feel creative and then brainstorm up ideas for 100 hours and not come up with anything like his truth. Curious if that Admiral has ever seen this interview and gave a shout out. Just awesome! Oh- and that story starting around 14:51 is pure gold.

When they’re part of your team it doesn’t matter, they’re part of your team.
That's how it should be.
Instead of going around the world screwing people over that help us. Making more enemies.
Ditto
VanZant is the coolest freaking operator on Earth. The coolest cat ever on your show brother. Five stars, mad love & respect guys 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
How can you not be proud of these Men and Women in our Armed Services. My stepdad was a PJ who spent three years in Vietnam. He was the first PJ to ever attend and complete the Green Beret Recondo school and the very last NCOIC for Rescue in Vietnam when they closed the last section. As a child I remember those men as being larger than life. As an adult, they still are. I respect all our personnel who serve in the military. They make many sacrifices as do their families to keep our country safe. The Special Operations folks are all incredible and outstanding examples of the best our nation has to offer. I stand in awe of these patriots. May God Bless them and keep them safe.
Possibly the most legendary Special Operations mission in modern history.
Yep! One of the greatest stories ever told!!!
That's not even in the top 100 special forces missions, you need to read up on your history FFS 🙄
@@interabang maybe you need to stop being a dick they just enjoyed the story you don't need to be a know it all🙄
@@interabang bruh top 2 gi joes type of stuff
@@interabang I'm uneducated it that regard. Can you recommend anything to read up on or watch? Thanks
Just some perspective (from someone that was at sea)
Y'all gave a mission to a multi million dollar piece of equipment, forged a story for her crew (which is probably a couple hundred people), expended a few hundred thousand dollars in 24 rounds, and all in a short planning period.
To say y'all need a crane for those massive balls is an understatement...
Keep in mind this was believed to be an engagement with the #2 and #3 guys on the list.
Her?
@@xrepressiivproductionz8481 ships, like most engine ran machines, are traditionally referred to as the female gender. This was true before the advent of the steam and combustion engines. Think about the famous phrase, “shes giving us all shes got captain!” It’s referencing the ship as an animate object, maxing herself out.
@@theinsane4469 Nice
Never knew that, cheers
It was a good day to be a good guy doing good things for people who haven't had too many good days during their lives until this one.
This Admiral…. This is why I respect and predicate Navy! I ‘m old Army/Viet Nam ASA and my step Dadd was Navy. So much respect. Thank you for your service. Outstanding..
What makes this whole story fantastic is for once there is true brothers-in-arms, everyone working together towards a common goal, everyone doing their part.
🇺🇸
As a civilian. I love hearing stories like that. Our war fighters putting boot to ass when opportunity presents. And a big thank you to the SRS crew for bringing these tails of Valor to us.
Great story, my favorite part is at the end with the Admiral in awe of these warriors.
"We have no CAS" CCT: "no problem"
Phenomenal story telling, and GREAT work. Our spec ops teams are unmatched.. especially when they work together like that. 'Rainbow Coalition' LOL.
One of the absolutely most coolest guys you've had on the show so far!
Shaun, You are transformed, sir. I like the articulate and cogent discussion with all of your guests. No one else brings such insight into interviewing the people who have lived at the very point of the spear. And their stories are often so compelling.
BTW, your story about your night NAV op during BUDS was the funniest military story I've heard.,
That was a great story, well told. I really like how Shawn quietly lets this story unfold, without needless interruptions, great job.
To get just a glimpse, into the lives of any of our Spec Ops units, reveals that daily, we have men and women out there, doing so much more than field combat.
It was very validating. Incredible experience.
Dad was combat control in 70’s/80’s. Respect for those guys
i love this channel. much respect for what you are doing, helping these vets to share their stories which i really love to hear. god bless you, sir!
Agreed, it's so awesome
"That's the coolest shit I ever heard"...lol. I retired from active duty Air Force, deployed many times, countless TDYs, and spent my entire career on the flight-line, but never could imagine doing what you all do day in and out. Thank God for such warriors.
Former Navy here. Thank you for sharing this. We love our special operators of all branches.
Thank you Chris VanSant a war story can be told without every cruse in the book being used. My hat is off to you for your service and how you carry yourself Sir.
These men are cut from a different cloth, and they deserve our prayers and undying admiration. ❤️🔥🙏🏻💪🏻🇺🇲✝️
One of the craziest stories on his podcast and the guy tells it so nonchalantly.
That's the frick'n best operations story I've heard in a loooong time.
Outstanding...
Shawn Your channel literally is the only one that gives the audience an in-depth of what a CAG operator's life is without violating their OPSEC. Glad to see you have Unit guys respect you enough to open up on your show. For all that don't know what bounding overwatch is, it's kinda like a leapfrog ground tactic.
Wonderful show today Shaun. Another brave hero of the war. I could listen to him all day long. Thank you 💛 both!
Great case study in how SOF puts in work against modern terrorists. Leveraging technology, developing plans on the fly, gathering resources, caution when it’s prudent, boldness when it’s necessary, above all WINNING.
These guys don’t just think outside the box, they have no idea where the box IS.
They called themselves the "rainbow coalition"? They should have called themselves "Rainbow 6" 🤨.
Probably the ranking officer call sign.
Not the video game but the rainbow 6 created from Tom Clancy book put together by Clark and Chavez ex spies from cia spec ops based in England on authority of president John Ryan and sas in the over 15 book John Ryan series
Great read Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6. I think it should be made into a movie.
@@kevindown1592 I read the book. I like it but some of the assumptions about terrorism/hijacking are super dated considering it was written right before 9/11.
@@aztronomy7457 the book is almost 30 years old. Eco terrorist and the tech was on point at the time.
This is awesome! Love hearing operator stories. Guys are a different breed that we should all be proud are watching our backs as Americans. Words can't describe the respect I have for tier 1 operators. Thank you!!! Love all of you guys!!!
I'm so glad I was LUCKY enough to join afsoc/jsoc/socom to become a tacp at 19 years old. I had a top secret clearance, before i was even sent to basic and bc of the civil air patrol as a kid i got the highesbt award u can get which is called the billy mitchell award and was able to go to basic as an E3 . 1 rank lower than my drill instructor 😂..although he was the youngest of them all on the whole base at Lackland afb san Antonio tx ,And I was always jealous of the attention that all the other special forces got. I'm glad to see that afsoc and tacp/ combat controllers, Are finally getting the attention they deserve. A ROMAD IS THE BADDEST WARRIOR ON THE PLANET. 1ST PERSON TO WIN 2 EDALS OF HONOR IS A TACP.
Great video on how things really go down. The type of clandestine type work these operators do is unreal. Im so grateful that soldiers like this are out there fighting the good fight. My Mums Dad my Grandfather. Was a Warrant Officier in the Royal Engineers in WW1. John Edington O.B E, M.B.E was my Grandfathers name. In WW2 he worked for MI6. I never had the privaledge of meeting my Grandfather. I know though that we owe so much to the brave Men and Women of the armed forces. For keeping us safe. 💪🙏🏻✨
How sweet.
Hell ya. Great interview. Gotta have a part 3 Shawn. You can’t leave us hangin.
Amazing stuff - Your interviews are outstanding. All are excellent, but the last few weeks have been on another level.. especially Chris Beck..
Probably the coolest SR show I’ve seen yet and I’ve-seen many shorts and long. From 82dAbn,forward observer’77-‘81.Biggest killer on the battlefield @ 19 years old
Would love to see a Combat Controller on the show
Dan schilling!
@@flanneldaddy5220 Great Choice! Him, Israel "Ish" Villegas, Or Robert Gutierrez would be my top three picks but I am sure there are tons others with some crazy stories
Thank you, Chris VanSant - we're all so fortunate that we had you and guys like you on the team; not only bringing the fight to the enemy in such a professional manner, but being super intelligent about it. Amazing story!
It’s those small moments where you fantasize about being away from big army! This story is what your moment would sound like. Dope AF
Now.
I agree or sag guys as well !
John stryker meyer was SOG he’s been on jocko and has SOG-Cast on jockos channel he would be a good guest for SRS.
Need joe fox on the show.
@@ogspermcell agree Meyer would be a great show
John Stryker Meyer went on Andy Stumpf’ podcast with Mike Glover. John was SOG during Vietnam and was doing black operations in Cambodia and Laos, Mike was a CIF and CAG guys during the GWOT.
This man is a great warrior and story teller in fact this is probably the best war story I’ve ever personally heard
I love thse interviews!!! Seems like every person on the show has been a very special person! Thanks for bringing these guys in so we can get an inside of our bad boys who are working hard to keep our freedom even know our current tyrants are trying to destroy this country knowing we have had enough of them!!! I have a feeling America is about to be strong as it ever has been here in a few short years!
They didn't because if they did, it would expose that their job isn't really needed.
Amazing story! Proud to call men like this Americans and neighbors.
This is the story you tell to describe how JSOC can contribute towards warfighting efforts. A real Jason Bourne
All of your interviews and clips are excellent.
This story should be made into a movie.
True dat.
I. Agree. It. Was. Wilde. Bob13
I called my brother after watching this and he knew a Master Chief on that ship, and he was totally psyched because they had just qualified for that mission.
If this shit happened in the movie, you wouldn't even believe it. That's a fucking awesome story! Hats off to the people that were involved in it. They did a great job.
Just wow!
Shawn is crushing it!
Hope you get some Air Force guys on here soon. Hearing from a CCT, TACP, and PJ would be sick
These guys are are the ones our kids should look up to
What a cool story even with no high value targets being bagged. Gotta watch the rest of the interview. Thx for all of your hard work on getting these guys talking so openly!!!!!!!!!!!
Naw you gotta listen to the full podcast, it turns out they did get some HVTs
Love this Podcast/Show! Thanks Shawn and your team for putting such a great production together!
Man, they should make a movie on this guy's career, and this story would make a great ending. Fantastic Interview, Sean!
Sat through a long jacks line for biscuits and gravy hesring this story... man proud to know we got men like this guy.
I felt like I was there, great story teller, I was glued to my phone
It always surprises me how operators from Delta and DEVGRU can openly talk about those 2 tier 1 units, but when it comes to Task Force Orange/Intelligence Support Activity all they'll say is "another Army unit based in Virginia" or something to that effect. That's obviously where the true secret squirrel ninja shit goes down.
A lot of the activity shit is to never be declassified and I think they have the highest classification in JSOC
You can’t talk about infiltrating other nuclear powers 🤫
@@Ronkushman420 it’s the CIA in the army branch
at 1:35 was chris talking about ISA?
I just thank God we have people like you guys taking care of all of us Americans 🙏 Thank You All and God Bless You All !!

This entire interview is epic. My favorite so far.
That is absolutely one of the most badass telling of a war story. It's beyond Incredible what our soldiers etc do. Real deal epicness.
I've listened to a lot of your pod casts, and I totally agree that this is probably one of the coolest stories I've heard. Big balls haha
I love this particular gentleman. He has a great way of relating the stories of the stuff he’s been through but he doesn’t sound and look all hollow and mentally wounded as some of the other podcast guests. He’s just chilling having a conversation. Awesome stuff. 🫡
Right! To me he looks like some dude working behind the counter doing shipping and receiving! :)
Extremely well spoken.
I was in the military for 10 years. These guys are extremely bright and intelligence. They're not just tough guys that do what they're told.
Im only about 2/3 in and this is by far the most awesome story of it's kind I've seen on RUclips. Beautifully told, too.
This has been one of only a few stories, I was on the edge of my seat listening. A Big Shout Out To Our Men And Women Who Serve !
God Bless America And Her Troops 🙏♥️🇺🇸✌️
US Naval gunfire support for "troops in contact".......when was the last time that happened!!!!!??? I agree Shawn, some very cool shit!!! 👍
Before Chris’s engagement, Vietnam War was probably the last time to do so.
Yea when we did it they said it had been nearly 30yrs
If this man was a team leader, he would have high survivability. He is very smart and tactical with his knowledge, would definitely make a good leader with his instincts.
I am just loving the way Chris tells these stories- I could sit in a room with a dozen of the smartest people on the planet, load them up with whatever makes them feel creative and then brainstorm up ideas for 100 hours and not come up with anything like his truth. Curious if that Admiral has ever seen this interview and gave a shout out.
Just awesome! Oh- and that story starting around 14:51 is pure gold.
There are literally 100’s of not thousands of these stories. Notice that Operators only typically feel comfortable talking with other Operators.
The flies on this wall should thank Shawn!
Badass story. Thank you Hero God Bless you and yours
Thank God for every veteran who risked his life for this job.
