    ==============================================================================
DQT - also known as the "Mommy's thumb" or "Blackberry thumb" is a common cause of pain in the thumb side of your wrist. This is usually related to repetitive strain of the thumb tendons under the retinaculum sheath. The two main tendons affected are APL (Abductor Pollicis Longus) and EPB (Extensor Pollicis Brevis).
2 Tests to Identify and confirm DQT
    a) Palpation Test ( static & thumb movement)
    b) Finkelstein Test ( gripping thumb in your fist and adduct the wrist)
    Management Progression is listed below.
    1) Early Stage - lots of pain and tenderness with little movement
    a) Rest
    b) Splinting with Thumb Spica Splint
    c) Activity modifications - breastfeeding, picking up the baby etc.
    d) Medical management - Advil, Tylenol, Voltaren EmuGel, Cortisone
    Injection
    e) Massage of the muscles INSTEAD of directly on the tendons
    2) Intermediate Stage - pain occurs with certain movements and when you
    need to use more force.
    a) ROM ( Range of Motion) Exercises
    b) Stretching exercises of the thumb and the wrist
    c) "Finkelstein" Stretch with thumb in the grip
    3) Late Stage - pretty much pain-free but feels weakness
    a) Rubber band exercises - Abduction & Extension
    b) Gripping and squeezing exercises
DQT usually takes a few months to recover as the cause is usually a gradual onset with repetitive use so be patient with your recovery process and don't give up too quickly.

I just stumbled on this in a search for answers. You described my condition exactly. I’ve been suffering five months. I think I initially irritated the area trying to open a stuck window. It’s the kind you use two thumbs to push the springs inward and lift. I’m going to try your technique. I’m praying it works. I will save this video. Thank you!

I love how clear you explain everything, and the how you broke it down for everyday use and explained when I should actually start the exercises!
I'm an artist and I've pushed myself too much without breaks last month, which caused my tendons to ache, and it caused me so much fear and stress. My friend lost use of his right hand for months because of serious inflammation and I was scared that would happen to me too. This video helped me understand it a lot more, thank you!

Thank you very much, sir! This is greatly helpful for those who have DQT. Before trying it on my mom, I researched the anatomy of the hand. My goodness, it seemed like the area where it swells pinpointed where the APL and EPB are located. So, I tried the test on my mom to see if it hurts, and yes, she said it does. I also tried the stretches and exercises on my mom, and they helped decrease the pain. Thank you!

My wrist was so annoying and painful. Couldn’t move my wrist with basic motion without pain. I put a towel over my wrist and then ran it under hot/warm water for around 10-15 mins. Pain was reduced significantly and 10 mins later my pain was gone. Btw Mines come n go but this time I might of stretched my wrist n a weird position. Too painful for most exercises but I appreciate you time and effort .

Thanks for this helpful video. I got de Qervains tenosynovitis from my waitressing job, carrying trays laden with 4-5 thick ceramic dinner plates laden with food to diner's tables. People are so ignorant and lazy, they would see you struggling to balance the tray and with the other hand place the heavy plate in front of them as they lean back or tap on their phones. I got got so much pain and trigger thumb as well doing that for 6 hour shifts. Fuk that, now I just place the edge of the tray on the edge of the table and say 'if you don't mind, please take the plates and pass them around' and stand there till they do. Most do, but some act huffy, but I find if I wear the thumb brace, they all comply.
