    Biggest strength of FF14 is exactly what you describe. Doing some, a little bit or none of the content you want and if you want to just wait until the next patch to return, you aren’t at a disadvantage when you do so.

      Yeah, I'm really taking a bit of a break, only logging in to prog with my static and do some maps afterwards. Its not like I'm bored of the game or anything, I just got off a 6 month long binge to get ready for then finish EW, and now I want to enjoy some other games that I missed out on. And the brilliant thing is, I can, the game lets me do that without any issues, and when I'm ready to come back more fully, I know it'll welcome me with open arms.

    Regarding the Crafting BIS, you only ever need to penta meld a full set of clothing and accessories seeing as that is shared by all the jobs. then you just need to meld the individual tools which isn't as painful. You end up having to pentameld 26 items (10 commons items, and 2 tools for each job) (or just meld enough to reach the stats needed for your food buffed macro to 100% anything) ( source:experience)

    • @MorpheusCh
      @MorpheusCh 2 года назад +5

      I wouldn't recommend pentamelding the CURRENT left side pieces anymore, it's too late into the patch.
      Wait until 6.1 where they'll introduce a new set of left side and tools green crafted. You can pentameld those which will last until next expansion.

    • @magnuscarlsson9969
      @magnuscarlsson9969 2 года назад +1

      You can easially HQ everything with only basic melds in your tools(Or use the Scrip MH-tool, it also works) and only 4 materia slots used on armor + accessories(Except those with higher CP max need penta on those, but It's easier to just meld a rank 7 and rank 6 CP meld). The thing is that you will probably never have enought CP to HQ anything(guaranteed) without food and tincture unless you are a specialist(20 CP is alot).

    My goal after each expansion has always been "get all jobs to level cap" that way I can focus on whatever interests me at the moment. I even go out of the way to level Trust avatars to cap because I can. FF14's "endgame" is 'whatever you want to do' as opposed to 'everything you need to do' and that is what has kept me playing all these years.

    When people say that the end game in XIV is whatever you want to do, they legit mean it, as unhelpful as that sounds to hear. Do what you want. The game has lots to do and not much in the way of time gating to doing it (holidays are of course time gated, and some content is gated purely because people slow down on doing it like Eureka and Bozja).

      People like me HATE hearing about "open ended" endgames. Its objectively a good thing, but I'm one of those people that FREEZES when confronted with 1,000 choices and I always feel like I'm making the wrong choice.
      It's good that you can do "whatever you want" at endgame, but I'd feel more comfortable if there was a nudge towards a certain direction after the MSQ. I don't want to feel like fishing and raiding are both "valid choices" for endgame, when raiding gives you story content you otherwise wouldn't have seen.

    • @DameonStarflame
      @DameonStarflame 2 года назад +7

      @@Sneedmeister That's typically why the end credits always has a scene that leads into the 8-man raids. But after that, you're on your own and you need to find something that you enjoy to do (or simply walk away from the game until it updates, which is a valid option).

    • @HadeaRin

      @@Sneedmeister Well as people above me said, the Msq led you to raid first and it is a nice post MSQ story stuff. If you need some pointer for activity that will make you do almost all of the things in one way or another, do Mount Hunt and Minion Hunt. You'll touch basically everything with this and it is quite simple goal if you truly don't know what to do.
      If you don't want to do any of the long journey just unsub and leave until the next patch if you so wish and it is actually a valid option. There, that is your option.

      @@Sneedmeister The funny thing is.... Fishing also gives you story content. The Fisher class has a storyline that goes up to lvl 70, then you have Crystarium quests and Sharlayan quests for fishing going from lvl 71 to 90. I did the Sharlayan one yesterday and it dropped some very important lore. We're not saying the endgame is everything it can be to be annoying. We're saying it because the game is designed in such a way that if your dream is to become the greatest fisher in the world, it makes you feel like that's a valid endgame choice.

      @lllllShjnllll 2 года назад +1

      @@Sneedmeister Just stop doubting yourself and thinking you are there to "serve" the game and everything is time-gated. It's not. You can enjoy any of the crafter/gatherer at endgame and they ALL have important lore content through their job quests, this I guarantee. Raiding of course does give you extra story and you won't get to see them if you don't do the raids, but if you're a raider exclusively then you do miss out on the gatherer/crafter lore part. The neat thing is, you can do both, whenever you feel like doing so. You can always start raiding if you feel like you missed some lore, or start fishing if you feel like so and you're not missing out on anything because none of it is time-gated. Just enjoy the game friend.

    A correction for Crafter/Gatherer pentamelding: You can, and will, cap out the substats on several items of gear with lower materia being used as the melding capacity of the gear is quite limited. For example, the past 3 expansions my hands, pants and shoes were melded to where no additional stats were available with grade 4 and 2 materia for the final melds. Those markedly increase the odds of success over grade 5+ materia.

    • @Nirual86
      @Nirual86 2 года назад +1

      also worth noting that you can't actually use the better type of materia (X in this expansion, but also VIII) for pentamelding all the way. You can use one extra for additional slots but for the remaining 2 or 3, you are using IX, VI or lower. Its practically designed around burning through the lesser grades.

A full set of end game crafting gear + materia is generally enough to make the best recipes but if you want to ensure hq you also need a supply of consumables (this also means that ALC and CUL can reliably make money off of other crafters).

    I see a ton of comments telling him to go do basic side content which isn't endgame design in the least.
    Endgame design is actually one of FFXIV's biggest weaknesses. It doesn't contain anywhere near enough content or especially reward structures for said content that would make any of it worthwhile; anyone excited for this tier has to be new (stormblood or later at minimum). Given more years, everybody eventually tires of this game's poor structure and become "patch-only" players.
    Savage not being preserved in any real way or form is probably the first thing that makes people stop caring. World prog has virtually no purpose anymore because you'd have to be an idiot to force yourself into the absolute toughest and most unrewarding of circumstances repeatedly when waiting just a few weeks will mean established and optimized strategies exist (people will actually be toxic if you know day 1 strats instead of whatever the new pub strats are) as well as significantly more powerful gear to make things like dps checks not even a problem.
    The tomestone structure is still extremely stupid and things like weekly lockouts make prospects of playing very regularly unattractive in comparison to learning a new skill or improving your health in the real world. Nobody who is new will likely agree with this, but its because you haven't been around nearly long enough for these design flaws to wear down your enthusiasm until you just log in to check things and maybe do your weekly clears if even that. It would take a bare minimum of 6+ years to start feeling the fatigue that us from the pre-1.0 testing days have been drowning in for years already.
    Unfortunately, all the buzz 14 got last year has done nothing for the game itself improving where it has always needed it. New generations will take years before they reach the same conclusions that we vets have had since practically the start and launch of ARR endgame at least and so the community is doomed to this stupid conversation of whether players with this view are "old and bitter and not wanted anymore" when its actually new players who just have no idea how this game really is yet because it would take over half a decade passing before they can even have the mental wear-down to realize flaws. So, in the meantime we're unlikely to see any improvements because instead of a massive rally to change things, we're seeing endless praise of the mediocre aspects of 14 that honestly have needed some of the most improvement.

    I want to add a very important point in regards to materia melding for crafting and gathering jobs. When you craft or gather, all of the gear you have equipped will gain a certain amount of what is called "Spiritbond Level", which is tracked in a percentage in the tooltip.
    When any one piece of gear reaches 100%, a quick animation will play on your character once, the equipped slot in your inventory UI (which Michael has in his lower-right with all the green/blue dots on it, equipped items are the two lines on the left hand side of that) will turn white.
    When it does, you can then "Extract Materia" to create a brand shiny new materia at random from a random pool depending on the spiritbonded item. For Crafting gear, this will be Blue "Crafter's" Materia with a high chance of Grade IX materia and a smaller, but still decent chance of Grade X materia. For Gathering gear, this will be Green "Gatherer's" Materia.
    Grade X materia can be inserted into the first (and only the first) overmeld of a piece of gear. So if you meld Grade Xs in the first two guaranteed slots of a chestpiece, you can meld an additional Grade X, but once that third one is in, you can only meld Grade IXs from there on out for that piece of gear unless you Retrieve that Grade X.
    On the subject of Spiritbonding, this process can be accelerated through the use of consumables. Three to be exact, which I'll explain in order:
    -Squadron Spiritbonding Manual: This will apply a 3 hour variant of the Free Company buff that will give you a Spiritbond Bonus of +3. While it does stack with the other items below, it does not stack with the related Free Company Buff if your Free Company has it active. This can be acquired in sets of 5 or 10 from Rank 3 Squadron Missions from your Grand Company once weekly.
    -Potent Spiritbond Potion: This will apply a 3 hour "Medicated" buff that will give you a Spiritbond Bonus of +4 (+5 for High Quality). This is a Level 62 Alchemist Recipe.
    -Better Crowned Pie: This will apply a 30m food buff that will give you +24 Gathering, +38 Control, and +2 Spiritbond Gain. This item cannot be bought with gil or crafted and, instead, is redeemed from the npc Talan in Mor Dhona in exchange for materials that were originally used as materials to craft token items for the Lucis Tools, the original Relic Tools for each Crafter and Gatherer in A Realm Reborn. These materials can be acquired from the Grand Company Seal merchant or from select Crafting/Gathering Leves.
    There are also certain accessories you can equip that also grant Spiritbond Bonus, such as the Meteor Survivor Ring. However, as that takes up a ring slot that A.) Gives you far superior stats to make crafting that much easier, and B.) You will be spiritbonding along with all of your other gear anyway, they are not recommended.
    I say all of this because there are too many people who will flat-out purchase an entire stack of materia without realizing quite how simple it is to get materia on your own.

    • @magnuscarlsson9969
      @magnuscarlsson9969 2 года назад +1

      You also forgot the bonus from melding. What i did was pretty simple, I just melded my normal slots with usefull higher ranked materia, then I just pushed in junk materia in my advanced slots. After that i just started melding one item at a time with the materia i wanted/needed in those items. Heck all my tools are still just 2 rank X's and a mix of rank I, II and III's, because you don't need to meld tools for the recipies currently in the game at least... and in the next batch we will have to start over again so... more important to just penta meld everything(even if It's not needed) to get the full 100% bonus from melded materia.
      So if you got a ton of low rank materia or find them cheap on the market board, just make sure all five slots are melded... It don't really matter with what stats, then just remove them when you are ready to make a item "prestine" with proper materia.

No grinding unless you want to, gear from tomestones is on the same tier as high-end raid gear, and you can simply unsub for 3 months between patches without falling behind if you want.
    And yes, the bad luck protection for endgame is extremely good. It's great for someone like me with horrendous rng, because even though I'm only doing Extremes and Pandaemonium Normal, I'm still guaranteed to eventually get the things I want, provided I have enough patience.

    I have not kept up if Eureka and/or Bozja reward the capped tomestones to level capped players, I know I capped many times during Shadowbringers by doing Bozja content. The main issue i have with the game is the artificial limit they put you to keep you spending on the suscription. Those single drops every week from Raids or the tombstone limit until the next big patch comes out is just bullshit to keep players hooked and paying for a needless limitation. The game is not so friendly with people that log in for some time and wait for the next patch. I cant access the propper housing because, if you have enough luck to get a plot and buy a house, you just have 1 month and a half until they demolish it and give it to other player. so if you struggled to get a house and cant affort a suscription on that time ($13 dollars is alot of money here where I live, for example in Argentina because of our crappy monetary system), I lose all my work. There is a lot of things they need to change to make it more user friendly but i love the game . the story and everything, and its a shame that some mechanics have players like, slaves to them dont allow me properly to experiment everything they have to offer that makes this game great.

    And that's what 14 offers. Raids, Trials, other combat things which aren't classified as "raids" but will still murder you like Bozja and Eureka, but also Crafting and Gathering with more depth, Reputations, Gold Saucer stuff, content like the Restoration projects. For crafting pentamelding is optional, if you aren't hard on crafting day one of patch then it's rather wasted. And this expansion seen super high amount of crafters so prices weren't as they were in the old days of which you may have heard in some guides - gil moved for less hardcore omnicrafters from patch day crafting to supply of things needed to craft and gather - materia, components and also older stuff. If someone isn't a omnicrafter (all jobs) then do note this is super optional and time consuming (CUL as solo crafter is an intermediate option to unlock various extras without omnicrafting).
    Housing market will move on patch 6.1 when Ishgard plots open. Then we will get an Island which will be to some extend similar but we still don't know what it will allow vs owning a house.
    For me since mid December the "endgame" was doing some side jobs, all ARR ones to 30 and then moving WAR and BRD to 90. I never tanked - not in WoW, not in FF, but when started WAR - really cool :) Oh, and I did the grind to get ARR WHM relic weapon and now I'm working on HW WAR relic weapon, bard one later one :D To much to do, to little time...

      i think the market got nuked from crafting/gathering being too easy to level + the new master recipes being way too easy to craft. That being said pentamelding is still ideal to do because the more melded a piece of gear is, the faster it spiritbonds. Meaning this can be used to farm materia in the long run while waiting for patch 6.1 so you can either dump your materia into new crafter gear or sell it for major money on day 1. Plus materia isnt exactly hard to get. Its just a tedious process or gathering and then crafting items for scrips which in turn also nets you more materia. Day 1 patch for materia sales is a hell of a drug.

    • @riklaunim
      @riklaunim 2 года назад

      @@omegacloud222 Yes, I did pentameld but last slots with much lower one. Gathering on legendary nodes is crazy for spiritbond, crafting not so much :D
      I wouldn't say crafters are easy to level. You have to start at level 1 so to get to 90 it requires time, even when done in some Ishgard/marketboard efficient way it still takes time and understanding. I would say more pre-existing and/or experienced player went for it than any of the newer ones. And the gear is not that high, more of a catchup/supplement rather than mandatory for savage.

    About Hunt:
    You can first acquire Hunt currency from level 50 hunt system and unlock further as you level up. The hunt boards give out daily hunt for small amount currency and exp and weekly hunt for Rank B Hunt.
    Rank B hunt only give reward if you have the corresponding bill which means you can get this reward once a week. Rank B is easiest to find since they respawn right after being killed somewhere in the map.
    Meanwhile, Rank A and S give tomestone and hunt currency. Unlike Rank B which is always present, Rank A and S only spawn in longer time. Rank A repawn timers vary in ARR but standardized to 4-6 hours for the expansions. These are the target of trains since their timer are consistent.
    Rank S, however, has timer that can last up to days. Also the most important part of Rank S is that they only spawn when their internal timer is up and their specific conditions are met.
    The condition can range from in-game condition (time, lunar phase and weather) to player activity, with varying level of difficulties (kill certain mob, complete certain FATE, perform certain action, harvest certain item, have that minion out, die, die in specific way, etc.). As such, Rank S, especially the current expansion one, take time and effort to spawn and give the biggest reward.

    I've played this game for 6 years, and there is still old content I haven't done that is on my list. I just don't need to login all the time, and can do the content in my own pace. I still want to get those fishing titles, necromancer title one day, Ultimate titles, leveling other jobs. All while I'm doing the current raiding treadmill in Savage.

    Word of advice Matt, Do the waring triad quest line then go do the Shadowbringers Heavenly Virtues questline. (All of them). You Will NOT be disappointed, but you need to finish the Triad first.
    (No clue if there's any other content that should be done first, Triads just the part i know improves things).

    Don't need to pentameld crafting gear to make the stuff this patch and, if they follow the pattern, next patch we'll get a green crafting set. Also, the melding percentages depend on the type of materia you try to meld.

    Another thing you can do if you haven't been doing it during live play is to unlock Flying in any zones you missed. Unlike having to endure a blizzard of rep grinds and arbitrary achievements to unlock flight, you just have to find 15 attunements on the map and complete 4 optional quests per zone (the 5th is usually awarded for completing the MSQ quests in that zone).
    Having flight unlocked across the board is key for farming FATEs and Hunts, and makes Gathering and any kind of dailies a lot more bearable.

    There is another type of endgame in XIV that even less ppl participate. Writing suggestions and reports of bugs, imagine quality (like that grape and pumpkin with low polygon), mentoring new players daily.
    Gardening and feeding your chocobo are also fun activities. In addition, as an fc owner, you need to send voyage ships and crafting those ships also take time, they bring back nice rewards that quite easy gil with a little effort for it.
    Doing all the sidequests in EW seems to be quite long than previous expansions and they have a lot of lore related back to ARR that you need a notebook to remember it. That treasure side quest is fun though.

    Don't forget, once the Alliance Raids come out, you can use those to upgrade your gear as well. It functions as a sort of catchup mechanic to Savage content. Just takes longer. I know it works for the weapon, but I don't recall if it actually can be used to upgrade the gear itself (I think so but don't recall for certain).

      Well, my only experience for that was ShB but with Nier Raid I drop coins (one different par part, so 3 in total and at each run you're guaranteed to have a coin) and was able to upgrade my Cryptlurker armor and Accessories but no weapons (or I was already crafting my Relic so I didn't really looked at it)

    I’m one of those advocates for the backlogged content. Not only are the older normal and alliance raids still extremely fun to experience, but the Euraka and Bozjan adventuring forays are also super engaging and fun!
    Aside from Bozja requiring players to complete the “Return to Ivalice” alliance raids to even enter (which isn’t a bad thing - said raids introduce mechanics that are reused in the Bozjan area’s “Critical Engagements”, serve as a great way to lvl and practice level 70 jobs like Realer and Sage, and introduce the player to the extremely engaging world of Ivalice from Final Fantasy Tactics & 12 together), there is something I feel I need to point out.
    Due to no longer being “current content”, Bozja is not nearly as populated as it used to be pre-EW; although the Bozjan areas are considered the best place to earn experience for classes 71-80 due to how frequent their fates are (called “skirmishes” inside due to minor differences from normal fates), most players are still completing the EW msq & Panda raids.
    I mention this because the Bozjan areas include their own built in raids - one “normal” raid per area and one “alliance” raid in between the two areas. These are ALL super fun to do and still VERY clearable since they scale in difficulty to the number of people you have, but the lack of population very likely means you’ll now need to make use of the party finder outside of the Bozjan areas to get at least a full team of 8 together to beat the content and progress through the story. (Thank the devs for RDMs and their double cast verraise. 🙌) This is especially true for unlocking the Savage version of the Bozja alliance raid; DR (Savage) is so hard that you get punted from the team if you die and don’t get revived in time (a nod to FF:Tactics), effectively requiring constant communication to avoid boss enrages/full alliance wipes. Oh - did I mention the “any 2 hit, instant doom” mechanic the alliance raid has in both normal AND savage?
    Bozja is great for everyone looking for difficult content to clear and/or just trying to level their classes, so I encourage you to please make use of the party finder! (Bellular, if & when you get to this point I’d appreciate you drawing attention to this. Interest in Bozja shouldn’t wane just because people don’t want to team up in an MMO. 👍)

    Tomestone gear is part of your BIS as a savage raider, the game is design so that even as a raider you still need to cap to complete your BIS, said gear is upgraded to 600 with a token from the 2nd fight of the tier for accessories and 3rd fight for armor parts. After the tier is unlocked the items can be obtained with Alliance raids currency "lock to one a per week" and hunts currency "Centurio seals for old stuff and nuts for the new stuff"

I'll play sporadically the next few months and maybe find a static later or when the second savage releases. No need to waste my time, I started playing other games more - like I wanted to try out No Man's Sky for a while and just had tons of fun with it, and no pressure that I have to manage a second job like I did with other MMOs.

    Another point, 6.1 will likely introduce the Alliance Raid, 24-man runs that will drop gear equal to the tomestones, and give a coin once per week that you can use for the upgraded tomestone gear, so you can nearly (nearly) match the level of Savage raids after a few weeks of upgrading one piece of gear per week.

      depends, savage does drop it, but only 1 player per week get it, if you dont have luck, it takes still 4 weeks for you to get an upgrade, while alliance raid gives you the upgrade token 100% per week. what makes 4x more tokens as in savage. the only good thing about savage is you can be faster as others, but not without luck or a static with a loottable
