Grown up in a Christian household from childhood till an adolescent ... Had come to a point where I turned my back to Him after all the tragedies and sorrows, failures that struck my life, to the point of growing despair and accursed ... Then there's this hymn that made me remember in our family who stayed faithful and true, a love that never let's us go ... Resting our weary soul in Him. I had grown to wander and hate the God I served during the phases of my seminary years and preached apathetically without letting the congregation know of my spiritual condition, to the point of being agnostic ... And yet, this love that will never let me go. He indeed gave me a reason why I can't fully turn my back on Him, the day He opened my eyes to the very book of Romans. And from there, I will always remember: "O cross that liftest up my head I dare not ask to fly from thee I lay in dust life's glory dead And from the ground there blossoms red Life that shall endless be".
This hymn came to be a daily prayer for my late husband who grew weaker and blinder and deafer in his last months of life. The words were so strong and alive though life was waning- His mind's eyes and heart searching for that life beyond with His Savior, Jesus Christ. The Anima Chisti was quoted during this song as we, together traced that rainbow through the blazing sun to the drops of blood that saved our souls. And there, we''ll meet again some day, where life "shall endless be". Soli Deo Gloria

In today's Bible reading, "I held him and would not let him go" SofS 3:4. Then I thought of this beautiful hymn, sung at my grandfather's funeral decades ago. It's so rich!!
I woke up with this hymn this morning and came online to look for it. May the love of our Heavenly Father never let me go, wherever I am, even to the ends of the earth. 🙏
This is an extraordinary hymn. It has a simplicity and honesty in its phrasing that depicts us standing before a great truth. It speaks so graciously to a heart which longs to believe in those things we know are ever present despite our inability to fully grasp them, and the melody enough to resurrect faith from the oubliette.
Sunrise,Sunset,Dusk or Dawn, two large birds( swans?)flying up and over the lake….Precious words, lovely melody, great singing..Stirring and inspirational hymn.Divine.That last verse brought tears to my eyes.
In 2014, when I was in college, I shared this hymn with my brothers and sisters, and now in 2022, when I am in doubt and pain, it is this poem and the author's experience that comforts me
Wonderful and Glorious hymn ever🙏🙏🙏it really calms my heart when I feel a bit disturbed and also when feeling a bit sad. But when I hear this hymn, I knew that The Lord Jesus is always with me and make me to always to strenghten my Faith to Jesus. Praise Jesus The Lord of lord and King of kings🙏🙏
Thanks Val with a grateful heart that’s very tearful this a m. Will walk up to Blackburn Rd to find a shop for milk which I have run out of. Beautiful being with you🙏
This hymn brings tears to my eyes as remember my singing it with such fervour. It is the One I turn to when I am feeling down... now in my later years. Praise GOD ❣️
The singing of this hymn brings to mind my sister's funeral. The minister quoted it in his sermon and we sang it. I fell in love with it and it is still one of my favourites. Thank you for your lovely singing. Bless the Lord.
O Joy that seeketh me through pain I cannot close my heart to thee I trace the rainbow through the rain And feel the promise is not vain That morn shall tearless be...
This hymn popped up in my view. When I read peoples comments I feel so deeply for them. I, myself, am in my seventy-third year on this earth and do not feel pain for any reason at all (but in my heartache for all of humanity). I do believe that Jesus taught all of us how to pray to our father in secret; to go up into Thy closet and shut the door. Our Father who art in heaven HALLOWED BE THY name. (Thy character). Are you praying like that? In Jesus’ character? As He prayed? Or are you seeking help elsewhere? White coats? Those were never ordained by our father. God created His beloved whole. Complete. Sufficient. Satisfied. And remorseful when making a mistake. He made our minds and our bodies strong. Resilient. Sustainable. If you’ve made a mistake. Repent in thy secret place. Redirect your course. Listen. Wait on Him in silence. Seal the lips. Open the ears and the heart. And do not sell the soul.
Thank you for posting such a beautiful and stirring revording of this thought provoking hymn. It is powerful in that it really weighs up your relationship with Almighty God. Peace and Love I send to all on thid recording and my fellow Brothers and Sisters enjoying such wonderful worship music. After all, why do we sing hymns, not to entertain ourselves, but, to Worship. Show Gratitude for our Salvation and Thanksgiving.
It's Valentine's Day and having done my daily devotions with Prayer 365- where the Pastor reminded us of what a difficult day this can be for so many people and how lonely some can feel on a day for happy couples, the words of the first line came to me and I found this version.Lovely! Thanks- the whole Christian life is here..
It has been sung at our family funerals from pretty much the day it made the hymns ancient and modern. Everytime I hear it I remember my grandfather and grandmother my father and mother and all the other family members now in a better place
@@ChetValleyChurches The very same as in my family. Always the heart of every family funeral across the generations, even though few people know this wonderful hymn these days.
If you are listening to this, wondering if there is a Jesus- He is real. He's complete, tender love and He wants to know you. Look for Him and you'll easily find Him.
Verse 1 O Love that will not let me go, I rest my weary sou in thee, I give thee back the life I owe, That in thine ocean depths it’s flow May richer, fuller be Verse 2 O Light that follows all my way, I yield my flickering torch to thee My heart restores its borrowed ray, That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day May brighter, fairer be Verse 3 O Joy that seekest me through pain, I cannot close my heart to thee. I trace the rainbow through the rain, And feel the promise is not vain, That morn shall tearless be Verse 4 O Cross that liftest up my head, I dare not ask to fly from thee. I lay in dust, life’s glory dead, And from the ground There blossoms red, Life that shall endless be.

I trace the rainbow through the rain,
And feel the promise is not vain,
