If this 4K disc sells well, I REALLY hope we get Ben-Hur 4K
I am sure we will.
Have a feeling we’ll get it later this her or next year at the very latest
@Frank Silvers Not sure if I agree with you on 35mm films, but if ANYTHING on actual film should benefit from 4K it would be 70mm & other large-print films like this one. (It was actually shot in VistaVision, which is 35mm film shot sideways to produce equivalent sized images; confusing it with actual 65/70mm film is understandable.)
@Frank Silvers yeah not sure I agree that 35 mm doesn't benefit much from 4k. If done right then I would argue it certainly does benefit though in theory a 70mm print SHOULD benefit more... If done right. I think it would be still possible to stuff it up! Agree that it would be great to see Ben Hur get a 4k realise though regardless. It has the potential to look utterly supurb!!
Yes, yes, yes...
"It's an absolute steal." You weren't paying attention I guess. Thou shall not steal.
Cracking joke man, that made me laugh.
Hahahah, sinners!!
😂brilliant
Thou shall not covet thou neighbors 4K collection!
This was shot in Vistavision NOT conventional 35 mm. Same film stock, but run horizontally, like IMAX. 2x the image size of conventional 35mm so half way to 70 mm. That is why it looks so good.
Interesting. I hadn't thought about running film horizontally.
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 yeah it’s an interesting format. It’s still used to this day, although there’s only 1 camera that can still run VistaVision, the beaumont vistavision camera. Inception and Dark Night Rises were shot with VistaVision. I read it’s a good format for adding VFX due to its aspect ratio and increased resolution potential.

Already pre-ordered from Amazon. THIS is the movie from my childhood. A MUST own title along with Ben Hur and Lawrence of Arabia.
Now we just need Ben Hur to be released in 4k!! (And Lawrence of Arabia to be released as a stand alone. Lol)
Yes!!! I really hope we get those as well.
Already have Spartacus
@@Coneman3I’M Spartacus
Still waiting for that Ben-Hur 4K release
Man. I’m patiently waiting.
@@travelinman you’d think they would’ve brought one out for the 60th anniversary a couple years ago but no
This has to happen!!!
Went to BB yesterday and I was pretty sad as the DVD/4k movie selection was cut in half. Just a shame for us physical media people.
I don't think it really means too much... Most of this is simply going online now. And no I don't mean streaming (though that too!). I've collected physical media for years but most of my purchases these days are online... Direct from boutique labels, eBay, Amazon etc. I used to go to our local JB hi-fi (in Australia) in store to get a lot of stuff especially during sales. And they still even now stock lots of physical media but I still just go online and get it. So I think the market is still there, I think sales are still healthy and I think studios are still going to be releasing these...(maybe not all... Like Disney for example)... I just think many people.... And covid has just fast tracked this... Are now doing it online...
There are always going to be collectors that want good packaging, booklets, social features that enhance your knowledge of the film and it's history etc. That still lends itself to a physical media experience better than anything streaming can offer. A bit like how everyone thought eBook readers would kill off physical books. Although there has been impact there books are still selling well and people still buy then to put on their shelves in their own personal home library. Maybe not as prevalent as it once was bit it's still ok. In 20 or 30 years who knows. But I don't see film and TV physical media going anywhere in the next 5 to 10 years.
They were about gone at my local store and just a week ago they got a good restock. I ended up buying a few at good prices. Hopefukly they add more at your store
@Frank Silvers you might not but there are plenty of people who do. Of course the film is the main consideration but as someone who likes to dive deeper and learn more about the film, the period it was made in etc...some good and robust special features are great added bonuses and there are plenty of labels which do this well. Personally it's a consideration when I buy a disc... I'd prefer a heavily feature stacked disc than a bare bones one of a film if the option is there. I mean meaningful special features mind you, not fluffy filler stuff that most big name modern film releases come with. In terms of physical media's end being nigh I can see why yourself and others may start to feel that way but I'm not convinced that's coming anytime soon. If anything it will just be a more niche thing like it originally was in the Laserdisc era etc. and only the hardcore film collectors will target them and they will be more expensive and delivered mainly my boutique labels (not that the boutique labels are necessarily cheap now! - they are already quite pricey but hardcore film nuts will pay the premium if they are fortunate enough to be able to afford to do so).
@@TackJorrance its time to download this online. I download it now in 4k uhd and its 84gb huge 😱
@@TackJorrance No. Its 1:1 copy of movie same as disc. No compression. All you need is 10 to 16 TB hard drive. The movie is free by the way. All movie now is digital copy.
Originally watched this on a regular dvd when it came out. Watched it today with the 4k disc and it is amazing! The colors of the robes and costumes and the clarity is incredible. By far the best 4k disc I've watched so far.
Cannot wait to watch it in 4K as it’s the movie I watch every Easter.
I watch The Passion of the Christ every Good Friday.
The 4K is bar none the best the movie has ever looked or sounded. It’s awesome, definitely worth the $20 that Walmart sells it for. The only downside is that there’s barely any special features, and the old box set and Digibook have tons of stuff that weren’t carried over. Up to you which is better, I plan on owning both.
A must buy for me. Hoping Samson & Delilah will be next. Awesome films in a wonderful era.
Before the dark times... Before woke Hollywood....
With Angela Lansburry (sp) IRRC from my childhood..
I really enjoyed Spartacus in 4K, look forward to this one. Just used your link to purchase it. Thanks Jeff!
My friend was a little kid on the set, he was one of the people running towards the wheat when the soldiers opened up all the doors.....
I’ve had this pre ordered for months. It’s one of my favorites and if they did it right, I knew it would be epic.
I love these kind of historical movies from the 50’s and 60’s. I’m definitely picking this one up, hopefully I’ll actually get a 4K tv this year so I can start using my 4K disks.
I’m waiting for my old TV to finally go so I can grab an 8K TV. They’re only like $3,000 at BB. A day of all the old epics on that will be glorious.
@@shanerollins3736 well there’s no 8k media in existence at this time and would you be able to tell the difference
I’m still using a TV I got in 2009, it’s still working great. I keep holding off because they keep announcing new technology with better picture. At this point I might hold off for an 8k to really future proof my TV.
@@Jon0387 8k is kind of a gimmick because there’s no media to support it and you’re probably not going to be able to tell the difference unless it’s a 200 inch screen
@@Jon0387
You can get a 50" 4K TV delivered for around $300. Just get one of those and let the price of 8K come down to around $300 in the next 10 years. No reason to spend $3,000 now just so you don't 'have' to spend $300 in ten years.
I just want a single release of Lawrence of Arabia
@Atlantis Rising I think they will eventually. The work is already done, they just have to print up a new slipcover. It would be dumb of them to leave free money on the table.
It’ll come I’m sure of it. The question is when?
can’t wait to get it this week here in Australia and great review as always Jeff this goes with Spartacus in 4K
It’s great that Paramount is releasing this film right around Passover. Perfect planning on their part!
Edit: Thanks for all the likes! Jewish film fans unite!
Indeed it is.
And it's a day 1 pick up.
It is being released at Passover because Rosh Hashanah is reserved for other movies😂😂
Do Jewish people like this movie? I hadn't even considered the question. I guess that makes total sense.
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 Why wouldn't day? It's a Film about how they broke free from slavery and made their way to the promise.
@@KaeganThornhillTheCyberRaven And it’s made by Cecil B DeMille, and has some of the best practical effects for the time!
I'm watching the 4K. Man--that Technicolor is so rich! This picture is a joy and pleasure to behold! You feel like you're on set or location, right in front of the actors, feel their passion and pain! You even see the tiny glints of blue light reflecting on the water as baby Moses arrives at Pharoah's palace! The metal on the armor, the green of Nefretiri's dress, the red of the firelight, my GOD! Next to a true VistaVision print projected on a giant screen, this is the ULTIMATE presentation. This presentation commands respect and the obedience of the Ten Commandments!
I have the blu ray gift set and is a great part of my collection. HAs an awesome book included and has tons of bonus features
I preordered this disc on Amazon when I first saw it announced back on February 3rd. It’s set to be delivered April 21st, I’m hoping it comes sooner!
OMG! I love it! I can’t wait to get it!
Hey Jeff, you mentioned that you don't use the digital codes the discs come with. What do you do with them?
Just pre-ordered via your Amazon link based entirely on your review. I've come to really value your reviews as our home entertainment system goes 4k!
does it say either on the back of the box or on the digital code slip jeff where the digital copy for ten commandments redeems to, cause i would suspect that it should let people choose where the redeem location is, i tend to redeem all of my movies on amazon video Via Movies anywhere , and that when it generally says redeem digital movie on these paramount blurays, that raises the flag as to where it will redeem to
Preordered ready for my collection.
I bought this 4k because of you. My dad had the vhs of this classic and now he going be blown away by the new 4k
yay! been very excited for this review
Excellent review Jeff...thanks.
Awesome!! I will be getting this release!!
Do you know if the 4k is going to be released with dutch subs like the Blu Ray?
Another one to the collection for sure.
Any news on if shawshank redemption coming to 4k?
Did I missed but did you mentioned the bonus features and were they transported over to this?
Have this on pre order! Looking forward to it.
I wasn't sure if I was going to purchase it on 4K, but your comments have convinced me I should buy it. Thanks for the review.
Watching the dvd now.. thanks for the review!
Does the digital copy redeem to 4K or regular Blu-ray?
it's a silly question probably
but this is my first time purchasing a bluray movie
how do i redeem the digital copy?
because i don't see any instruction from the box
This is a must have for me,such a classic.
Your clutch with the reviews..thanks
Like the videos a lot, thank you for the informative information on 4K...
Because of you I bought my first 4K movie after seeing the review on Beetlejuice, I looked & found the gift set through Amazon that I liked!
Anyways I have a quick question and only you would know it right away!!!
I was wondering when they might bring out (1989) The Burbs on 4K
Awesome , thanks for the intel on this 4k movie can't wait to get it at best Buy , is one of my favorites
I'm very happy that this 4k release came out great!
Just bought it while watching your video thanks
Can't wait!!
the simple blu ray is any upgrade from the older versions ?
Just bought this and love the fact it’s all on 1 disc.
Wow, those screen shots. The blacks and color tone. As you said, skin tones are excellent. You’re telling us that Charlton Heston didn’t foresee Atmos? Just wish it had been made in 2.76 or even 2.35. Grain is good! Great review Jeff. I’m drowning in discs to buy.
well i preordered from Amazon and just got it but i get an error message when trying to redeem the digital code. anybody else have this issue?
Amazing 🔥🔥🔥
Just watched a few videos on your channel. For someone who can’t get a hold of the Criterion Pan’s labyrinth movie, due to it being region locked, would the 4K version be a better alternative than the DVD? If it matters I have a Sony UBP-X800M2 4K player, and a Samsung 2019 55" Q90R 4K UHD Smart QLED TV, and a Samsung HW-Q86R 5.1.2ch Dolby Atmos Soundbar (2019). My alternatives for buying a better options than the DVD that I have is the 4K version or the blu-ray special edition.
Just watched it today for the first time. It looks so good!
Can't wait till the Snyder cut of Justice league comes out. I heard its June.
Always like to see classic movies like this, hit 4k disc!
Best motion picture ever made. ‼️‼️‼️‼️
Greatest story ever told for sure
i have the 4k steelbook but my digital copy was the 1923 movie ,every had the same or just me??
Do you think that the original universal monster movies will come to 4k due to universal rereleasing mastered in 4k movies like jaws and psycho
This is one of those releases that I will have to have!
I've never owned this film on any format so I'll be getting this one for sure. Great review Jeff!
Yeah, it aint coming to streaming any time soon!
Thanks mate just bought the only new copy available in NZ
0:20 Mate, you're 10 days ahead, not a couple :D
Edit: I just hope you didn't break an embargo by accident.
Preordered over a month ago, I’m hoping I get it by Easter. Also a bit annoying they didn’t include the 1923 version with this release but I have the digibook so I don’t have to worry about that
Yeah, 4K fans will miss out on the 1923 vertion on account that was included on an Extra disk which is not part of this set.
Hey Jeff, I was just at my local Best Buy and the Blu Ray shelves were almost empty. I asked an employee if Best Buy is going to stop selling Blu Rays. She said they are massively shrinking their selection and may stop selling Blu Rays completely. Don't know if this is only happening at my local Best Buy or all of them. It would be nice if you did a video about this.
I have this on Blu ray and it looks fantastic, the colours are some of the best I've seen!
What kind of t.v. must you have in order to use 4k ?
Finally on one Disc but do the flags disappear in the setting of the Stone scene?
The steel-book 4K version comes with the 1920's silent film as well!
I was in the same boat. I had all these 4k movies no tv. I purchased a Samsung 65" Q90t for $1500 it's fantastic i recommend it for 4k movies!!
Watched this today on Easter Sunday and was spell bound.
I don't even have a 4k player and I pre-order this... thanks Jeff
An excellent video Jeff.. Are there any 70mm films scanned for 4K at the moment?
My Fair Lady was and that’s coming soon. 2001: A Space Odyssey was as well I believe. Some of them were often upscaled from 35mm to 70mm like this one for theaters. Sound of Music, Ben Hur, Hateful Eight, those all have a good chance.
I already pre order this on best buy.
Thank you for the video, do you think you will do some live video samples as well? I think it would enhance your videos on your Channel.
Nice review I just got 2 copies 😀
I love this ils films 😍😍😍😍
Does this 4K Disc have the introduction of cecil b de mille?
U convinced me to pre-order. I already own the Blu-ray.
How about Saturday Night Fever I can't wait for that to come out if it comes out in in 4k with the Dolby Atmos wishful thinking maybe
Please give us cleopatra in 4k.
Looking forward to this release, because of your channel I have started my collection. No 4ks in yet, but it will happen. I think Jaws will be first.
Have you reviewed any of the planet of the apes movies yet?
Will the movie have a spanish audio track?
Nice!
My copy is arriving tomorrow.
Just picked mine up here in Australia at sanity 4k version only 27 doll
Have you reviewed the Deerhunter 4k yet from shoutfactory?
I just hope that when they release it in other countries, Paramount could touch up some of the dubs. In Germany for example we’ve been stuck with the same, old, crumbly mono track for years and years. And on the Blu-ray they even botched the sound pitch and never fixed it...
:) used your link enjoy the tip you deserve it :)
Is it a must, or is the digibook fine?
Be nice to see a steelbook edition with extras.
I was thinking the same thing.
I'm hesitant to upgrade from the bluray, because its a gorgeous transfer; one of the best on the format. Not huge rewatchability for me. Still thinking about it
Y cuando Ben Hur amigo, la esperamos con ansias, saludos
I did not need the review to convince me to preorder but I’m looking forward to your thoughts just the same!
Looks good
Just picked this up yesterday for an Easter Sunday movie watching. Glad to hear it’s amazing UHD.
Can I have the digital code if you're not using it?
@@Thedestroyer99955 Sorry, I’ve already redeemed it.
@@greeneye5977 do you any other digital code that you can give me?

@@greeneye5977 can I have both codes?
Hello-
while one is buying this for the 4K picture and sound its too bad the restored silent film and the making of doc. which
were included in the digibook released last year aren't included here.
Glad I don’t already own the blu ray as I’m picking this 4k up!
This Movie is on TV tomorrow
Night of the Roxbury is coming to blu-ray finally. 5/25/21.
And Django 4K 5/25/21
And Girl Interrupted on blu-ray
Want to upgrade to a 4K TV. What type would you recommend? OLED 4K, or 4K LED UHD, or 4K LED HDR?
If you have the money for it, I would say OLED for sure.
A lot of movies have black bars, and movies are mastered to be watched in dark or dim rooms, OLED can completely turn off the black bar pixels so there is no glow, so if you are mainly want it to watch movies in dark/dim rooms then that is the way to go. The only problem is OLEDs larger than 65 inch are currently very expensive but that may come down over the next couple of years.
Your responses are greatly appreciated. The main purpose is for watching movies. And I agree, the OLEDs are expensive.
My current HD TV is 80" (2014) so I would like to stay with that screen size or a little bigger
I think people who really big fans should get both because the digibook has the 1923. Slient. Version which is not included on 4k
I've had the boxset Jeff pictured (tablet-shaped disc case, "parting the Red Sea" box & all) for years. I have this pre-ordered from Target (they messed up & allowed a "no pre-orders" 10% off coupon with this one, which made it just under $20 with RedCard discount & tax), but I won't give up the boxset due to its unique packaging as well as the 1923 film.
Good on 4k is the mark of zorro for 1920 :)
