    I have ADHD and it's hard for me to focus on reading long pieces of text for class. Having someone read it aloud while following along with the text helps me focus and understand so much better. I can already tell your videos are going to save me so much time and help me get through my Intro to Ethics class. Thank you so much!

    I just started listening to Plato's dialogues and I think I understand why they put Socrates to death: this man just goes around trolling people 🤣 Certainly, philosophy is thought-provoking for those who love it (myself included), but just plain annoying for people who couldn't care less. I've had discussions with friends and family and it confused the heck out of them haha.
    Thanks for reading the dialogues, really enjoying the vids!

    This is great stuff. Would love it if you could do Parmenides next, as it comes before Philebus, Symposium and Phaedrus in Thrasyllus' tetralogies. Well done mate

      Hey, I'm glad you enjoy the dialogues in audioebook form. You have called me out. I have been avoiding Parmenides as its such a long and difficult dialogue. I was doing them in the Iamblichean order and Parmenides is last, but I was going to move on to the Republic. Seems like Parmenides must come next! 🙂🙏

    Plato cuts away at all the bs when discussing topics very well.. Nd I’m just now getting into philosophy. But does Plato ever challenge his idea of divine intervention? Does he ever go, can another possibility occur? I’m just curious … I wish my friends were into philosophy so we could discuss together

    1. What kind of question is Meno asking? In other words, what is the nature of the question Meno asks?
    2. What does Socrates find wrong with Meno's kind of question?

    Not quite sure why you rate Plato to be honest.
    He sounds like politicians of today.
    Do as i say and not as i do.

    • @lewiskirk8289
      @lewiskirk8289  3 года назад +6

      Hey Kim.
      I only wish our politicians were like Plato. He uses a method of Dialectic to get to the truth of an issue, cutting away at the fat by asking questions. He can really help our own thought processes if we read him often.
      Are you not a fan?

    • @kimneilson3156
      @kimneilson3156 3 года назад +2

      As much as i appreciate the period in which this was written and the many questions it poses, it still reminds me of the lazy rich and self indulgent of today.
      The ones who have time to pontificate.

    • @lewiskirk8289
      @lewiskirk8289  3 года назад +4

      I think that's a fair point. One requires a hell of a lot of time to participate in Philosophy, which is what the characters in Plato's dialogues had, many of them, the sophists would get paid to teach people.
      The important things that I take away from Platonic and Neo-Platonic thought is that by better thinking and removing ignorance and opinion, we can make our won lives and the world a better place to be.
      But I like where you are coming from Kim (I think anyway). Its not enough to stand around discussing philosophical nuances, when so many people in the world are suffering. Activism is needed.
      I hope I didn't put words into your mouth, and I'm enjoying discussing Plato with you. Am I in the right track regarding your thinking?

      @@lewiskirk8289 I think the problem is, that people forget philosophy is a way of life. It not just reading a book and agreeing and disagreeing. It's about seeking virtue and the good from learning, and doing action from the philosophy you follow. The Cynic are a prime example, they pretty much renounced everything and would still follow wisdom to try and better society around them. This is why we have so much bad in the world because a lot of people don't seek the truth.
