Exactly, he literally lit a house on fire and his dad took the blame and he just allowed him to take the blame so he can stay out of trouble, when her dad dies he makes it all about him at the funeral, throws a literal tantrum when she breaks up with him, and trashes her in his book. Hardin being a walking red flag is an understatement. He burnded down his mom's house, his dad took the blame and doesns't even care that he basically kept him from going to prison. Takes advantage of his girlfirend's emotional moments, gets upset if his girlfirend can't handle him every second while never once doing something for her, used his girlfriends real name in a book (seriously she could sue) and spill all her secrets and intimate moments then say its not about you, and gaslights her all the time into feeling guilty and gets back into her life when she gets away and is finally happy. This relationship is toxic as hell. Most of these Wattpad stories turned movies are, and I'm blaming 50 shades. These are teaching a generation the wrong things on how to handle a relationship and showing toxic behavior as either something to put up with or fixable.
As Alex said in a previous episode, "This guy's waving more red flags than the Beijing Olympics"

That statement Alex made about not owing someone respect cuz they’re blood related to you , and gave you the bare minimum as your caretaker, is something a LOT of people need to hear
Preach
Providing food and board, changing diapers and bathing, and being sure someone is getting an education for 18 years or more, still takes a lot more effort than knocking someone up and taking off.
Neglect can be damaging, and I don't want to be dismissive of that. But I think it can be hard when you're young to understand the effort that can go into parenting.
Respect the level of effort that was given, but also learn from your parents mistakes.
If they're abusive or negligent to the point of not providing basics, that's another level, which requires more distance and healing.

But when you are coming to terms with your parents' humanity and fallibility, acknowledge what they did do as well as what they didn't.
Because there are people who don't keep their temper check and don't properly provide basic necessities, and parents who just don't stick around.
Does depend on what the poster means by bare minimum, which I read as staying present and providing at least the basics of life.
No one is ever 100% ready to be a parent. But you can have all the major boxes ticked, and then something unexpected happens and plans crumble and barely getting by is the best you got.
We apparently hit a point in my teen years where my dad went through a period of extended unemployment. I did notice a slump in my parents level of energy and knew things were getting tight. I did not know until this year (42 now) exactly how close to the edge of bankruptcy they were... Because as kids we got the cliff notes but not the full weight of the situation.
My sister was married with a house when she had my nephew. She didn't plan for her husband to cheat on her.
Yes, you should strive to do the best for your kids. But when you are coming to terms with where your parents fell short, it's worth remembering that they are human beings and may have far more going on than you were aware of.

Since his book was published by a publishing company (not self-published) it is totally unrealistic that the company didn't tell him that he had to change any names of real people that he didn't have permission to use. It wouldn't have changed the story much -- anyone who knew her would probably still recognize her in the book but it would have been a little more realistic.

Hardin saying he wants "little versions of me" reveals so much more about the character than whoever wrote that line intended. Like he could have said kids, children, babies, but nope that would imply that he actually wants to be a father. He's so narcissistic he probably thinks that what the world needs is more of him.
I love how all the After movie posters are all lovey dovey and intimate, but the movie on the other hand is nothing but trama, agressiveness, toxicity, Hardin bring a walking red flag and Tessa being the ‘I could fix him’ girl.

@@kreyaSun Their apparently wattpad books. So....they didn't sell any copies it just got enough 'views'. For some reason studios are like that enough lets make a movie based on views on a wattpad story. Other people have made comments on other reader videos talking about who on wattpad every-single paragraph is filled with comments of people bashing the loving hell out of Harden and Tess relationship. Apparently none of the studios read the watpad story or looked at the comments because the 'fun' of the story was the inside jokes/making fun and bashing harden and tess relationship/actions.
In, all honesty sounds like 'fans' were doing everything that Alex is saying in this video.

-Hardin and Tessa fight, then do the “devil’s tango”
-Hardin says “Fock” many times
-Hardin breaks stuff and screams
-People go out of their way to tell Hardin that Tessa is the best thing that ever happened to him, but never the other way around
-Tessa gets an opportunity to pursue what’s best for her, but she decides to stay in her abusive and toxic relationship with Hardin because she’s stupid and has no self respect
-Tessa and Hardin break up for 5 seconds and immediately get back together after having never learned they are SO wrong for each other
This series is so grating...how many warning signs of a toxic abusive person can one guy possibly have?? And the amount of times they fight, break up, f***, get back together...oh my god. This can't just keep going forever.
I don't think your "unpopular opinion" should be unpopular at all. I totally agree. Being blood related means nothing. It's all about what you do from there. You can be someone's son or daughter and be an absolute jerk to them. Heck, some families kill each other. You can also be complete strangers and show so much compassion and support for each other that you form unbreakable bonds. Relatives are decided by genetics. Family is decided by us
(Edited: I'll say that it personally means nothing, but I respect anyone who does care about that. I've just seen way too many relatives of mine and others act like complete jerks. For me, that's not enough to be related. People have to demonstrate to me that they care. I have some relatives I love with my everything because they have been there for me and other relatives I don't even view as family because they've shown they don't feel that way either)
I do not think it means nothing. I mean you can never cut the bond between you and your parents or you and your offspring. Imagine to find a new child... I don't mean that it is something good. What our genetics give us is good and bad. But I believe you should confront youself with your roots or you'll have none.

No lol do not try to defend twilight, that book and movie were/are bad. We gave shit of a tough time to the actors and actresses, that I agree with, but not the movie, no.
On one hand, i semi blame twilight for opening the floodgates for romanticized toxic romances.
On the other hand, it is the least of all evils and it is one of the few franchises that stayed where they are. While Harry Potter and Hunger games are all getting remakes and spin offs, Twilight stayed
At least to Twilight’s credit they had the immortal and everlasting hilarity that is Michael Sheen’s performance to somewhat balance it out

I’ll give this to the After series. What it did right was to show how exploitative abusers are to their victims; where their goal is to suck out any happiness, hopes, and future of their victims, and when they have no use for their victims anymore, they discard them into oblivion. Even with his violent personality and their abusive relationships, throughout the movie series, Hardin kept on stalking Tess, harassing her, invading her privacy, not respecting her boundaries when she keeps telling her to leave her alone, and keeps pushing her until she gives in and gets back together with him. When he finally manages to squeeze out whatever last substance of herself she had left by using and selling her trauma to become successful, that’s when he finally stops harassing and chasing her to get back together. He has no need for her anymore. He’s gotten what he wanted, he’s now successful, will probably move on without her. And she’s left broken, destroyed, and alone.
That sounds like a masterpiece of a thriller. A terrifying and important message that needs to be spread to the world. Too bad the writers have the emotional intelligence of a sponge and think this is what a healthy relationship looks like

it just baffles me that people whine endlessly about superhero movies and yet they have no problem with sludge like this "film" corrupting our screens.
Superheroes are entertaining and give us an escape. The after movies just showcase a toxic relationship and hope we root for them. Tbf tho my 14 year old self would have eaten this up

Shield is revealed as infested with hydra throughout its ranks for decades and is destroyed. While the “good” side that remains trying to keep the ideals of shield going are frequently shown as morally and ethically questionable.
Thunderbolt ross represents the military in hulk stories, and iron man stories constantly has the libertarian billionaire flouting the military because he sees them as inept and that arming them would be dangerous for the world.
The maximovs are people radicalized by war, and being that their family was a casualty of senseless violence, killed by stark tech they join the people fighting their enemy. Much like people who are radicalized by u.s attacks on their countries and join organizations that are just a different shade of fascist because they are largely ignorant and inculcated.
Civil war, which was a wasted plotline because of how rushed it was, was literally about the avengers being a rogue group of people who answered to no authority and how they had to agree to the sokovia accords to keep operating. Although one could definitely say that it’s not clear cut which side the writers expect the viewer to support and that’s by choice, it’s meant to be a philosophical discussion about the consequence of having such a group.
Marvel doesn’t really address the military, it’s background noise story wise, but definitely an air force ad.
As for consistency to sam’s character lore, the multiverse has been a thing for decades and I don’t know how people can keep saying “this isn’t how it is in the comics” while also knowing how many different continuities there have been over decades of stories.

Hardin is far too much like my first boyfriend. He didn't burn down his mother's house, but he did call me and say that I had to take him to home depot to get stuff to repair a hole he punched in the wall.
Also, he didn't have any money so I had to pay for it. Of course, he didn't say that until we were at the checkout.
