  • This is a On-Ride, Front Row, POV of Expedition Everest at Disney's Animal Kingdom, Walt Disney World WDW Florida in HD. Video includes Front Seat POV.
    Length: 4424'

    Expedition Everest - Legend Of The Forbidden Mountain is often compared to the 1959 Matterhorn Bobsleds roller coaster at Disneyland, which also features a snowy mountain setting and an "abominable snowman" figure throughout the ride. Expedition Everest is the tallest of the artificial mountains at Walt Disney World Resort, joining Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Mount Gushmore, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain and Mount Mayday on the list of Disney-built peaks. According to Imagineering, it is Disney's 18th mountain-themed attraction.
    If the Expedition Everest mountain were real, it would be ranked second on the list of the highest summits in Florida at 200 feet (61 m) above sea level. Although moderate in height and length by contemporary roller coaster standards, Expedition Everest is unique for having its trains travel forward and backward as a result of the yeti's interference with the journey. This is accomplished through two sets of rotating track segments on pivot before and after the backwards segment. In its publicity material, Disney pointedly has described the attraction as a family thrill ride. This was the first Disney roller coaster to have a backwards section on it, but it was the second Disney roller coaster proposed with a backwards section: The planned runaway mine train roller coaster at the Magic Kingdom's never built Western River Expedition would have had a backwards section before it was shelved in 1972. The plans for the mine train roller coaster eventually evolved into Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
    The artificial mountain is not a reproduction of Mount Everest; it is the fictional "forbidden mountain" guarded by the yeti in the attraction story created by Walt Disney Imagineering. Everest is represented by the barren background peak on the far right, which is meant to suggest it is far in the distance (an example of forced perspective). The attraction's concept is that the roller coaster is a passenger train offering a speedy route through the Himalayas to the base of Mount Everest. According to Disney, the attraction occupies 6.2 acres (25,000 m2) in the park's Asia section and the mountain itself is just shy of 1-acre (4,000 m2).
    Expedition Everest celebrated its grand opening on April 7, 2006 in ceremonies led by Disney CEO Bob Iger and theme parks chairman Jay Rasulo. The attraction first was announced publicly on April 22, 2003, during an event to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Disney's Animal Kingdom.

    This ride is so intense. The video really does not express how immersive this ride really is. If you want the full experience, riding it is definitely an experience to be had! :)

      +adam bouzakti (thethreebrothers) Well, obviously this ride isn't as intense as the ones at Six Flags. But the OP might have just meant that it's intense for a Disney ride. I definitely thought it was intense compared to most of the rides at Disney and the smaller coasters in the Magic Kingdom.

    The first time I rode this, there was this really enthousiastic 10 (?) year-old boy. He really helped me get through this roller coaster and made me laugh the whole way. He said he'd been on it 7 times in a row already and he was with his brother and father. If, by ANY chance that boy is reading this, I want to thank you for making this a very enjoyable ride!

    Anyone asking: This is my favorite Disney ride out of every single park. The hill is bigger and steeper than you think.. When you go backwards, it feels like your going upside down! It's so fun, and easily the most amazing ride in the parks. I recommend it from 9-60 years old, the hill may be a bit big for elders or young kids..

      +EmilyNoelleMakeup does it really feel like you're going upside down on Everest? I finally rode it on my last trip to Disney, but still chickened out of Rock n' Roller Coaster because I was so nervous about the inversions (I've never been on any ride that goes upside down at all). But if that's what inversions actually feel like, maybe I can handle them since I handled this ride and wasn't scarred for life. :)

    • @poopyscoopy575
      @poopyscoopy575 8 лет назад +1

      CherryFrog321 Inversions are not that similar to going backwards. If anything, your upside down and it feels like your gonna fall down. But this is coming from someone who has only been on one inversion ride, and thats the Superman at Six Flags. xD

      It's scarier than the smaller roller coasters in the Magic Kingdom...but still nothing compared to the big ones at Universal and Busch Gardens. So if you're used to the bigger ones, this one should be a piece of cake, but if you're normally scared of roller coasters and haven't ridden anything bigger than Thunder Mountain, it might be scary. lol

    Disney rides are not really fast or have crazy G forces. It's more about the experience and production they put into the ride. Just have fun and enjoy the show. If you want the thrills, then go to Six Flags.

      +thats just jojo I'm also terrified of roller coasters that go upside down and really big drops. I would definitely recommend going on it with the expectation that it will be scarier than what it will be. That way, it'll seem much less scary once you get off. It's a fairly short ride, so the part where it goes backwards is over before you know it. If you're the type of person whose stomach turns a bit while going down drops, I would recommend sitting in the front. However, you'll feel the backwards part much more that way. So, if you want to feel both parts, but not too much, sit somewhere near the middle or back. I'm sure you'll enjoy it! :)

      +Eliza James I find it interesting that so many people are saying that part feels like it's going upside down. I'm scared of roller coasters but I finally rode this on my last trip to WDW, but still chickened out of Rock n' Roller Coaster because I was afraid of the inversions (I've never been on a ride with inversions before). If that's what going upside down feels like, maybe Rock n' Roller Coaster wouldn't scare me too much since this one didn't. :)

    • @user-ll5lq4gl6i
      @user-ll5lq4gl6i 4 года назад

      well it’s to confuse you. most people go on the ride not know you go backwards so it’s a little plot twist. then they explain it for you

    • @protoborg
      @protoborg 4 года назад

      @@user-ll5lq4gl6i Wrong. It USED to be that it DID appear before you encounter the torn up track. It is NOT to confuse you. They just wanted to change it up and now it makes no damn sense. It is confusing not because it is a plot twist. It is confusing because it doesn't make sense any more.

    Best rides at Disney:
    Animal Kingdom: Everest, Dinosaur, and maybe Primeval Whirl for the younger kids.
    Epcot: Test Track
    Magic Kingdom: Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Thunder Railroad. Maybe 7 dwarves.
    Hollywood Studios: Tower of Terror, and Rock N Rollercoaster
    Personally my favorite out of all parks would be Everest! Must ride :D

    • @Howlingburd19
      @Howlingburd19 3 года назад

      @Beast Coasters I’m aware. Those “EXIT” signs are very important, because if any kind of emergency accident or fire happens, that sign is used to acknowledge it’s the closest emergency exit. I just think it’s funny how almost every ride that happens to go indoors has it.

      ericathorp1 Do you normally like roller coasters? If you've ridden ones outside of Disney, then you have nothing to worry about, because nothing at Disney is too over the top, and no rides that they make are as intense as the huge thrill rides at places like Universal and Six Flags. If you don't like roller coasters and thrill rides then it might be a little scary. But again, since Disney is for families and they focus more on theming than big thrills, none of their rides are meant to literally scare the crap out of you, so none of them are THAT bad.

    I went on a family reunion vacation last November. My brother in law and I rode it before. Our cousins rode it for the first time along with my uncle. We kept quiet during the ride. When it came to the broken track, they felt it was a kiddie ride at first. The going backwards in the dark REALLY threw them. At the end of the ride, they felt that Expedition Everest was much better than the Matterhorn in Disneyland. They told me they were glad I did NOT spoil this.

The scenery is breathtaking and the whole experience is memorable. The backwards part is pretty fun. You can feel the GForce.
