@@RareLimited any more stuff? I'd love to hear some of the earlier voice clips with jokes but I get that would be harder to release unless the actors said it was okay.
That solar system business is fantastic! I played the hell out of BC way back when (full platinum, "You Can Stop Now", took me forever). Nineteen years later and I'm still learning new things about it. In all the time since its release, I don't think I've seen any game handle progression and secrets in a more satisfying way. Multiple hidden areas in so many maps, secret level on top of secret level, there was just so much of it, all revealed at the right pace and all serving as a genuine reward for exploration. I got a deeper sense of accomplishment from completing all the medal challenges than from any other game that comes to mind. The team did an amazing job with Blast Corps, and it puts a big, stupid smile on my face to see they look back on it fondly after all these years.
weirdly enough, i always loved the story? the idea of a nuclear catastrophe just seconds behind you really gave the game the little edge thats kept it in my mind since.. well, 1997
One of the greatest Games ever made. I achived all platin medals back in the days. i played the hell out of that game. it is still today in my collection. we need a HD remake here... or a complete reboot with the newest frostbite engine
+sarg nagel The Rare Replay version is crystal clear. I was absolutely blown away of how clear it was. In the original, there was actually a level that I couldn't 100% because a hidden pathway was camoflagued by the fuzziness
Trogdor8freebird because everyone just wants to shoot one another and be in the military, or they want to hack and slash. That's all we get these days.
Been trying to remember the name of this game for years. I thought it was really cool as a kid, super nostalgic. Can't believe I never knew it was made by Rare until today
Loved the game back in the day. Poured 200 hours into all the platinum medals. Wouldn't do it again but I had a great time with Blast Corps. Thanks Rare.
I busted my ass to get all of the platinum medals as well. And after you do it, all it does is (SPOILER) it gives you a message that says 'You can stop now'. Talk about anticlimactic...
Japanese trivia: Japanese version of the game was called Blastdozer, possibly because corps was not easy to pronounce nor did it sound snappy in Japanese phonology. Any graphic asset that has BC has been replaced with BD (e.g. medal, and the back of Backlash). And it’s got a better logo, and I would say better boxart. The nuclear thing was changed with highly explosive chemical for the obvious reason, but RDU is still called RDU.
I rented tbis game a few times in the 90s and loved it so much. Happy to be playing it again now and unsurprisingly its hust as fun now as it was then.
While I love the Simian Acres music, I can't help but feel it was a bit odd to reuse the boss music from Donkey Kong Land. Must've been Graeme's favourite track for him to reuse it in such a wildly different game.
I love that number 1, is that Blast Corps has no story. I think everyone knows that. And yet I still return to this game every couple of years to try to remember what the story was.
I somehow never played this game until tonight, I can't believe it was on Rare Replay and I didn't play it until now...I even want an original cartridge for Nintendo 64.
That explains why the story never made sense. I would think that in this scenario, Blast Corps would deploy the J Bomb for every carrier level, with the thunderfist and a fast car as backup. They also wouldn't be wasting time doing races and destroying floating spheres inside volcano's. At the very least you would get a handwave explanation for why you get stuck with THE FREAKING BACKLASH for half of the levels!
blast corps is a game that if they create a new one, even if is bad done, still would be awesome, the idea and the gameplay goal was so well idealized that even if someone recreate the game generic as f with unreal engine, still would be awesome
>Completes game "Great, now here are more levels" >Completes game "Great, now get all the scientists" >Completes game "Great, now get platinum" >Completes game "Great, now do the solar system" >Completes game "Great, now do it all in platinum" >Completes game "Great, now do all of it again with Onyx medal" Wat?
Back in 96 i thought I was the only one who had this game because none of my friends heard of it, come to find out 27 years later lots of people had this 😅 little late
also, the groin cockpit. not one mention of the Turn A gundam? it even had the same entry system, the cockpit would drop down to the ground, then pull the pilot up. the entire crotch could even launch off and turn into an aircraft...
Wait a minute... The narrator and some of the guys in the video seem to be calling the game 'Blast Core'... Perhaps that was the original and/or working title for the game? Fill me in, plz, +Rare Ltd
Rare Ltd Imagine my shock of surprise; I have been mispronouncing the game's title since its release. I, among many others. have always been saying 'Blast Corpse'... Yeah. >__>
I never understood this game when I was a kid. And there was no Spanish version. I rented it like twice but I gave up, I was always stuck in the first level, never got what I was supposed to do
This game deserves an HD remake.
That's right.

Battletoads was a hit. Not lets see a new Blast Corps!
No, it needs a sequel

this game is so much of my childhood.

this criminally underrated game is in desperate need of a sequel
You have to destroy everything, or else the nuke destroys everything... Wait...
What? It makes perfect sense.
Underrated game really, one of my favorites on N64
Could we get rare replay on Steam?
You have to destroy everything, or else the nuke destroys everything...including you. ;)
Fight fire with fire
This game was actually really special and deserved more recognition. The soundtrack was also outstanding.
The most original game ever made
Nah, the real reason the mech was designed to be piloted from the crotch was so we could chuckle every time we decided to "get to the cockpit."
The world needs a new BLAST Corps game with all the scrapped ideas shown on this video.

I never knew that about the accurate solar system simulation! That's incredible!
I LOVE how you staged that fatal drink accident.
Even more, I LOVE Blast Corps. My favourite N64 game, with the most incredible scoring.
02:01 I think it's called a cockpit
Im glad this game came on the Switch!
Why are there no games like this in the modern era of gaming? O:
Trogdor8freebird because everyone just wants to shoot one another and be in the military, or they want to hack and slash. That's all we get these days.
5:12 I knew that because one of the levels happened to be Sao Paulo race track of the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Epic game, i still remember borrowing it in like 1998 or 1999 and devouring it.

That was genuinely interesting, I had no idea about some of the stuff in Blast Corps, especially that solar system!
I was searching for this game for years. Looks so different from when I was a child! I thought the robot looked so futuristic lol
I still have this game and have not finished it.
4:15 Ricky Berwick? Lol what? Imagine having that name.
imagine the same team getting back together and making a sequel
Hopefully with better controls
Man, platinum medals across all these missions feels so impossible I just can’t even believe it! Just used an hour to get 4 of them…
Graeme Norgate’s “Major Trouble” rocks out loud with some “thrashy” guitar riffs!
The game that Lorraine Chase played on GamesMaster was The Adventures of Yogi Bear (SNES). It was the Christmas special episode from 1993.
Awesome, Awesome videos!!! Keep 'em coming!
this game has the best music

+Smouv I believe I heard that was the first game he worked on for Rare. Not sure, though.
The groin cabin finally did see it's day in full view of the public when Kojima did Zone of Enders.
2020 Still waiting for a real HD remake come on! This game was super fun I can't believe they don't continue it?
It was such a great underrated game. A hidden gem
There aren't enough games like Blast Corps.
there needs to be a blast corps 2
Rare: "Yeah we originally designed a vehicle with a groin cabin but it was a bit silly!"
Hideo Kojima designing Zone of the Enders: "Yoink"
the fear and unsettling of the truck crashing with bombs if you dont destroy on time was scary this game was difficult but fun. nostalgiaaa

Blast Corps would be an AWESOME VR game.
My God the game looks fantastic in HD
Simian acres, YEEEESSSSS. That was my alarm clock for so many years.
A new blast corps would be amazing
This was one of the best games the N64 had to offer, it was exhilarating to play. It vaguely reminds me of Risk of Rain in the type of fun it induced.
