I'm reminded of something I've learned a decade ago: _Give others your tricks, so you're forced to break new grounds_ Maybe that's what Nintendo is going for here.. And meanwhile, we can enjoy the Odyssey-like adventures they're gonna give us!
I created the entirety of Super Mario Bros. 3 in Super Mario Maker 2 (H1R-X6F-NRF if you want to play the first four worlds in world maker) and what I have learned is that they have withheld many of their tricks even from such an old game. Most notably the ability to use water and lava in multiple ways at different levels in different environments. Also doors the limits in doors make it hard to make maze levels. What I think should do for the next 2-D Mario is do a remix like the NES remix, but use all the mechanics and art styles from past 2-D in the same level in varying different ways and call it Old Super Mario Bros.
The next step would be adding even more features and tools of course but the new thing would be that you can play as the villains and from their perspective Bowser, B. Jr, Wario, Waluigi, King Boo, Petey Piranha. The game starts with an original story that switches between eras where the villains are tampering with the past. After you beat the game then you unlock creating your own world to either "fix" or "continue" the villains agenda with the heroes. There can be secret world that upon beating them unlock abstract tools and features.
They could do something with the Wario Land series since it hasn't been touched in more than a decade. Wario and Waluigi could be partners or rival treasure hunters.
Wario, Waluigi and Captain Syrup. Syrup would be a perfect Rival/Wa for Peach, would make a cool trio with Wario and Waluigi, and by making them officially a trio she could appear and become a staple in the Mario spinoff games, and so Nintendo could redeem themselves for doing Syrup dirty back in Mario Tennis 64.
I think the most likely outcome for a new 2D Mario is quite simple: new core mechanics, new level themes, and new level “gimmicks”. The core formula is just fine, so I think they’re most likely to add to it and give it a fresh coat of paint. Because there is still one thing Mario Maker cannot do: create original mechanics.
I think they should add a new update once a year or so, until it has every feature and game ever made in 2d mario and then start adding new features with every update, then they could make a 3d mario maker with every 3d game ever with every feature, then add more new features. (And release each game with every console) Edit: they could add a story mode similar to mario maker 2 so it has levels packed in with the game already
I agree. In Smm2 I never feel like I'm doing anything big. I like the feeling of making progress. Plus as good as a lot of creators are, there is a lot of garbage
@@MrPineapple045 The things I like about the game is that you experiment as much as you want with Mario and the game also made me better at platforming games in general.
Of course it helps that official nintendo mario games haven't had a ton of items and enemies, overall aesthetic and such held back from being in mario maker.
Mario Party 7 was my first Mario Party game and it is still my favorite. Playing that game as a kid is one of my most nostalgic moments, along with quite a few other games on the GameCube.
One likely reason for handing us the keys to the Mushroom Kingdom: They want to add value to their Nintendo Online subscription service so that people stay subscribed. This is probably the single greatest value add for the service. Infinite 2D Mario content forever.
"Evolving the formula into something more" - isn't that what 3D Land/World was about? It was, at its core, New Super Mario Bros taken in a new direction. They did a pretty good job with it, it just wasn't a 2D game
The problem is that it felt like a middle point were it wasn't as great as the other 3d Mario games, but wasn't similar enought to be considered a 2D Mario game
Would the 3D Land/World games count as the “New” series? Cause I have an unhealthy addiction to multiplayer Mario games that look like plastic (sometimes) and make you punch your cousin multiple times in the arm for THROWING YOU DOWN A PIT IN WORLD 8-BOWSER WHILE HAVING A PROPELLER SUIT THAT WE NOW HAVE TO GO BACK 8 WORLDS TO THE BEGINNING OF THE FUCKING GAME TO GET! Aside from that, I love these games. Great part of my childhood.
i think somewhere in SMM2 it says that nintendo is taking inspiration from some of the levels in game and turning them into unique concepts. (be prepared for a very hard, very musical, very automatic mario game)
What a snipe though... =/ Anyone remember that one lava level with the moving platform with bomboms raining down on you? I was the guy that would toss my cousins into the lava just to get control of the platform (if that wasn't obvious)
I feel like a "reverse 3D Land" might be a good idea: a 2D game with level design and progression akin to the 3D games. The fangame Super Mario 63 followed this format. It was 2D, but had the more open levels and the Star-collecting format of 64. (In fact, about half of the content in it was directly based on 64.)
@@Gnidel Maybe, but unless it brought something new to metroidvanias, it would be overshadowed by games like Hollow Knight and Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Well, physics breaking strength and agility aside, there's still a more grounded realism in DKC than there is in SMB. There's also more continuity and narrative progression from DKC game to DKC game, while the SMB series is very much just "here's a new series of obstacle courses to run, a new series of hoops to jump through, have fun"
@@rodrigomorales563 Ummm... not really, Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle straight up said Donkey Kong Island is in a different dimension. DK's World and Mario's World are far removed from each other. Maybe they're in a shared Nintendo Universe, but not a shared "Mario Universe"
I think there will always be a place for 2d Mario games outside of Mario maker. I love Mario maker 2 but only a handful of levels feel like levels. A LOT of Mario maker levels feel like people throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. After 100 hours of Mario maker 2 I replayed NSMBU deluxe and it was actually refreshing to play ACTUAL levels
“We need unique characters similar to what 3D world did!” Characters are great and all but we need new levels, we need interesting bosses, we also need to get rid of the title “NEW” because it didn’t age well.
In fact let's have Mario travel the earth like Mario Odyssey. Mexico could have Tomahawk Bros., Japan could have Karate and Ninja Bros. Also, add some towns replace 1ups with food dishes.
*Firesnakex8* Um... the ds version had the most unique ones, the Wii and others just went with the koopa kids, the ds version had mummy pokies, peety piranha, and others
I think the best thing 2d Mario's have going for them is consistency. Mario makers biggest weakness is not knowing if you're going to get a ridiculously hard, easy or troll level. I love Mario maker but its much more comforting to know what you're getting with these games.
Your editing is getting better and I just had to let you know it’s being noticed. “Nintendo gave us the keys” *mario gets a key*. Stuff like that keeps happening in the footage you choose and it’s so satisfying thank you
Honestly, I can never be bothered sorting through all the trash on Mario Maker, so I would *love* a good 2D Nintendo Mario Game with solidly designed coherent levels.
this. i had more fun with NSMBUD than i have with SMM2. consistent quality in level design and a sense of progression that is entirely lacking from SMM2. the new ‘world builder’ mode is too limited to reproduce the feel of a 2D Mario proper. And there are just so many bad levels... NSMBUD gets unfairly maligned, sure it’s derivative but it’s not trying to be original. “Innovation” is value neutral anyway.
Fred Dulson Agreed. I like that SMM2 exists for those that like creating levels, or playing extreme challenges etc, and I can enjoy playing an individual level, but to me there is always a place for a Nintendo-curated coherent 2D Mario experience with proper progression.
Ehhhh I’m down I guess but idk maybe? Maybe a smaller game with you going through what bowser has to go through in a Mario game. But then again wouldn’t Bowser have to win in the end then… idk if they would do that.
The next game should be set up like S3&K Where there's a Mario campaign and Luigi campaign that are very similar, and then a villains side where you play as the Wario Bros. (I know they're not technically brothers...). Wario's campaign takes shortcuts through walls, courtesy of his shoulder bash... maybe Waluigi can get through tighter spaces than anyone else? And we just all agree to 'forget' that Wario normally pancakes himself to do that? IDK, I've just always wanted to have a Mario game either 2D or 3D where the character select was more than just an asthetic choice or slight control variance.
Watching this reminded me that this is not the first time that 2D Mario's gone on hiatus. The gap between Super Mario Land 2 and New Super Mario Bros. was a whole 14 years. (I'm not counting Yoshi's Island since that plays differently enough to be a Yoshi game instead of a Mario game.) All that was in between to keep 2D Mario fans satisfied were the GBC/GBA remakes and occasional ports of the original Super Mario Bros. It was a crazy dry spell in hindsight, and I have to wonder if instead of creating a massive overhaul, they might just drop it for another decade plus and bring it back when the NSMB fans are the perfect age to get nostalgic all over again. If nostalgia is what sells the games, then they might just let the cycle roll around a second time. Granted it would be a heck of a wasted opportunity, but it is a possibility.
What you describe is more plausible Nintendo tactic rather than to change anything or innovate their concepts. They´re obviously both very opportunistic and very traditional.
I want them to add cutscenes or at least a toad with a customizable chat bubble. But if they add cutscenes they could do this: if it's just someone talking, you choose who is talking, and choose the background. Then choose what they say. It would look like odyssey. If you want an ACTION cutscene, look at how you move the Snakeblock. There are arrows pointing to where you move it. You can choose who to move and where they are moving. It would give you a selection of actions such as stomping on a character, laughing, and so on. And another thing they should do is add different game styles for worlds you make. Just like the courses, you would do it with the world.
for mario maker a cutscene maker? nahh i don't like long cutscenes in any game, really don't want irrelevant cutscenes in a mario level, would much rather they add pretty much anything to the level builder
I still feel like Mario hasn't made the proper transition into 2.5D platforming. 3D World's style in Mario Maker 2 is a start, but you can do so much more. I also wouldn't mind more official levels or even brand new games in the style of SMB3 or SMW
@@simplyjeff8761 one dimension. We live in a 3 dimensional world, with the x,y, and z axis's. 2D only has 2 axis's :X and y.in 2d you can move in two directions. 3d you can move in 3. In 1d, there is only the x axis so you can only move left and right.
i still think a lot about the 2d-ish sections in mario odyssey. i loved every single one of them and yet... i felt like they were kind of underutilized, like a whole game could be made out of a 2d mario platforming on the surfaces of 3d objects. i think that would be a great game, and a great future for the series.
Maybe they could even have sections of levels move around controlled by the player. It would be a fun way to make variety in the game, and could even go farther to have things like levels switched between different worlds on the map similar to how NSMBDS had the weird extra levels.
I think that a proper 2.5D Mario game with his full Odyssey moveset (aside from captures and stuff only possible in 3D) would make for a wonderful new basis. The thing that made the "New" series so great in the beginning was expanding Mario's movement potential, and using rolls, long jumps, and hat bounces/dives would really boost the possibilities for levels. Aside from that, I think they should take a look at how DKC Tropical Freeze handled its level themes, as the basic Mario level themes are kinda getting old. (Also I want better co-op and versus modes, something like the VS mode from New Super Mario Bros DS.)
Probably because U deluxe has better levels, aesthetics and you don't gotta build levels. I mean I like mm2 but I prefer to just sit back, relax and play some well designed pre made levels instead of going through all the trouble of finding or trying to make good levels
Me: Hopefully a unique mario game that uses forgotten pieces of the cast, and increases the lore of the series? Nintendo: New Super Mario All Stars! Includes NSMB, NSMBW, NSMB2, and NSMBUD!
I really wouldn't mind Mario taking a page out of Kirby's book, in that aspect. I mean, the Return to Dreamland formula is basically NSMB done right, IMO. For the most part, anyway.
They can make a new 2D Mario game interesting if they actually have a different story other than Peach being kidnapped, new exciting bosses, more detail to the graphics, multiplayer mode and new playable characters (Wario and Waluigi have so many fans out there).
Nintendo: We have to keep Mario games simple Also Nintendo: Lets make Mario turn into a T- rex with a moustache in a metroplitan city with realistic looking humans
My idea for something substantial to add to 2D Mario, give him a jobs system. It would be an awesome callback to all the Mario spinoffs and a great way to give him powerups and abilities. As he progresses through levels, he unlocks stages where he gets costumes that switch up his entire moveset. He could be standard Mario, or Dr. Mario, or Golfing Mario, or Super Striker Mario, etc.
@@SuperFroakie82 A branching map where new areas are unlocked when you get new abilities/items, right? Substitute Mario's partners for abilities, and it's a pretty good approximation of a Metroidvania game.
Anyone remember Kirby and the Amazing Mirror? How about something like that: classic Mario gameplay but in more of an open world as opposed to individual levels. Also what if they brought back some mechanics from Super Mario Bros 2/Doki Doki Panic
Specifically, I really like the whole health bar system that 2 had. Maybe you could use toad houses to increase hit points or item inventory space with only certain type of coins.
They need to come at 2D Mario, whenever they go back to it, with renewed vigor and ambition. I’d love to see it with the art style of the character portraits from 3D World
I think adapting ideas/settings or the level of creativity from 3D games is definitely the way to go. Also if you like at Super Paper Mario through the lens of a traditional 2d Mario it displays a lot of unique ideas for structure and gameplay
I love the idea of a 2D-3D blend, like the environment is all 3D but you play on a 2D plane. There could even be times when the path bends and you continue while the camera turns. Practically that wouldn’t change how Mario moves through the level, but visually it would change a lot. I would also love much more rich worlds, I always think of how cool it would be to run around New Donk City from Odyssey, and you gradually scale the tall buildings, and the fly through the air and see the city beneath you. Sure, it’s cool in 3D, but it would feel so much more refreshing for a 2D Mario game.
i'd love to have more characters ! especially different bosses like new super mario bros ds had another thing i'd love is for an open-ish world, similar to VVVVVV. THAT is something you cant do in mario maker, even now
@Romanic Agreed. Like Arlo said, a new 2D Mario shouldn't stray too far from the series roots, otherwise it would be a completely different game. I'm not against the idea of a new style of side-scrolling Mario. But if we're talking about traditional 2D Mario, then it should stay true to its own formula.
@@guyudontno7689 Agreed, but we got Mario Maker with infinite levels. If Nintendo would truly want a new evolution or create a new "type" of Mario games to replace the normal 2D ones alongside of Mario Maker, I'd be ALL over this.
Eh, let's keep the Metroidvania style to the actual Metroid franchise. Also, there's already so many Metroidvania's out there like Hollow Knight and Axiom Verge that Mario doesn't need to change so drastically. Part of Mario's appeal is the simplicity in the controls and level design.
They could definitely make one more story focused. Imagine 2D Mario running through Toad village like parkour or inside the castle random enemies everywhere the goal to reach the end without being overwhelmed. Better sub bosses like how about they go to their house to see Wario and Waluigi robbing them where you have to chase them down to get back the stuff he stole as they through random junk at you as an obstacle. More secrets and random permanent power ups to give you a reason to back track to old levels to find new secrets like how about in every ghost house there’s a big Boo that not afraid to look at you blocking a doorway so as you progress through the game you encounter E Gadd and have to buy the Poltergust so you can remove them. Adding in lots of mini boss stages like how about random encounters with Peter Piranha in a stage filled with piranha plants or fights with King Bob Omb or Goomba. I feel like there’s tons of meat left on the bones for 2D Mario they just aren’t changing up the formula enough. Like here’s another idea I had what about one where Bowser uses a magic wand to bring back the past and when you play a level it can randomly swap from the modern style to SMB1 or SMB3 or SMW with the physics from those respective games. Maybe even through in some new modern pixelated styles. The swaps could have like a weird wazy barrier where you can see some iconic characters or styles just in the border so you know what you’re jumping into right before you switch styles. They could also switch back and forth. Towards the end you could have a bowser boss rush where you beat him in every singles style of the games.
Retro are honestly gods at their work, they just need to find that spark that will finally make them financially stable. Right now dkcr is their only game that sold past 3 million, their work is far too underrated
Thing is, they aren't retro at all. They love taking a game and making it NEW, making it something completely different from what it had been. Sooo...yeah, Retro could make a great ANYTHING
I honestly thought Super Paper Mario was a genius evolution for 2d Mario. Having the game play mostly in 2d but occasionally flipping to 3d to solve puzzles was brilliant. More polish towards the idea sounds like a great idea for a 2d Mario game imo.
There's so many different art style directions they can choose between hand-drawn or a nice 3D touch. They could do a lot of things with coins and mechanics. The 1up system needs a entire overhaul. Time limit should probably go away. Different power ups with different physics for an entirely new experience. Modern day online multiplayer while still keeping couch co-op at its core. Some fancy cutscenes maybe. We need wario. make a new campaign that isn't about peach but still include her. And lastly, no more freezing the screen while powering up and powering down. It's only distracting in multiplayer mode.
I would love side scrolling Super Mario game that takes place in a 3d environment, similar to Yoshi's Crafted World and Kirby 64 and the Crystal Shards.
In my opinion, all they need to do to make the artstyle better is just add more detail with it. Imagine a sidescrolling Mario game with Tropical Freeze graphics.
Good story is not important in Mario( main line games). Like it’s nice to have but seriously no bodies picking up Mario for the story. The unique character and enemies I’m down for
The lack of story is almost entirely because Miyamoto won't allow it. The reason Galaxy 2 and Sticker Star were such a massive step back in terms of story was because he stepped in and said the story had to be nearly nonexistant. And you can see how that went, especially with Sticker Star.
Hm, wonder what comes next. I do think another new super Mario bros would’ve been successful though even if a tad disappointing. NSMBU deluxe has outsold Mario maker 2 completely after all.
Nintendo should make more 2D mario games that are closer gameplay wise to 6 Golden coins where you can choose where to go and unlock the final world after beating every boss. Levels also could be more dymamic & multidirectional too like that game was. As for art style id go for a softer more Yoshis Island artstyle done in the same way the Shantae games do.
Yeah Wario hasn't had a real adventure in 12 years, and even then Shake It kinda felt like a weaker version of Wario Land 4 to me. It's time for him to come back.
I would love a new 2-D Mario game mostly because professionally made levels have a certain feel about them as opposed to a lot of the tossed together nonsense that can be found in Mario Maker.
Yeah, I mean, it's cool and there are good levels out there. But I know what I am getting into when I play a traditional, nintendo made, 2D Mario game, in Maker, you never know if the creator will put a level with max diffulty out of nowhere, and while those can be fun, sometimes you just want a classic adventure.
I've never been very fond of the 2D Mario games, so I would love to see them make some drastic changes. The art style for one thing. The recent Donkey Kong Country and Rayman games (not to mention many other 2D sidescrollers) look leagues better than any 2D Mario released within the current millennium. Maybe they could use high grade pixel art, or hand-drawn animation, or maybe they could stick with 3D make it the most gorgeous 2.5D game ever made. New environments would also be much preferred. All the visual flourish in the world wouldn't help much if Mario just running through the same old grasslands, deserts, ice worlds, and lava worlds. Lastly, I'd like to see brand new power-ups and more than just one or two. A whole bunch of them. And make them more integral to the gameplay. Maybe even have a few that become permanent additions to Mario's moveset, lending a sense of progression that previous games have lacked.
Great comment. Better looks, a new style, new worlds, new abilities, a new progression system Man, that sounds like a great deal. Even if all that "new" is just minor. Minor changes might even be better. Let me add. a New story? You know, maybe Mario (and buddies) is saving someone/something else than the princess? I'd also like a new main villain. But all in all, Super Mario Bros shouldn't stride too far from simplicity. Simplicity is pretty mutch the foundation of Mario, from both thematic and gameplay perspectives.
Let's have Mario travel the Earth like Mario Odyssey with Tomahawk Bros. in Mexico, Karate and Ninja Bros. in Japan, add some towns replace 1ups with food dishes. We need Tatanga again. I think he was really interesting.
They should try to achieve what they did with super mario bros 3 and world. Two thematically different games, same core design, and some of the best ever made.
One thing I'd like to see is this. New themes. We've had ground, desert, underground, underwater, beach, ghost house, snow, forest, fortress, castle, mountains, and cloud, etc. But what about other areas? What about worlds and stages based on unusual (at least, to 2D Mario games) themes, such as garden, house (including stages based on a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, etc), library, town, city, farm, factory, church, or maybe something unique like Super Mario Land 2 did, by having stages set within the body of a whale, or inside the workings of a mechanical Mario robot thing? Another thing I'd like to point out... listen to the desert themes of the following 4 games: New Super Mario Bros. Wii: ruclips.net/video/_Jpc2ZOLXRM/видео.html New Super Mario Bros. 2: ruclips.net/video/faey21GpixU/видео.html New Super Mario Bros. U: ruclips.net/video/tDkg-tzxdvM/видео.html Super Mario Run: ruclips.net/video/yg31C_9uyoM/видео.html Puzzles & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition also has the same desert theme, but there are no clear videos showing this (other than actual gameplay). I also didn't include the Super Mario Maker games, or NSMBU Deluxe, since they _obviously_ also have the same, but if you include the Maker series, as well as ports or remakes, there are _NINE_ games all with the same Desert theme. It's not just the desert music that has been recycled many times, but that's the one that seems to have been recycled the most, out of desert, underwater, fortress, castle, forest, etc. So, I'd also like to finally see a 2D Mario game that has _new_ music for the first time since 2009. Which brings me to this question which _literally no one on the internet_ has actually addressed. Why did Nintendo create unique music for the ground, athletic, and snow stages in New Super Mario Bros. U, but then give up and recycle the same music from Wii and 2, for a _third_ game?
@@NCMenace_ ... 2.5D is the term most commonly used to refer to NSMB. Tropical Freeze is also a 2.5D game. The term refers to a game that uses 3D models in a 2D plane.
@Pinecone Snowstorm No tropical freeze is but not NSMB. 2.5D adds depth and a 3D feel to a 2D environment like the 3D world style in Super Mario Maker 2. In a 2.5D game, you can only move up, down, left, and/or right like in 2D games, but your character moves around 3D environments
How about changing the story, making Bowser playable as an ally, and introducing a new villain and henchmen? That way, it’ll feel fresh, and Nintendo can get away with being essentially a curator of content for Mario thanks to their trusted quality seal and all. Customers will trust Nintendo to make a fun, balanced, and cohesive product in contrast to the randomness of SMM2
There are a couple of things that I would LOVE to see in a new 2D Mario, new in the sense of the essence and not in the sense of the "New. Super Mario Bros." series: 1. Hiring the creators of some of the best levels in Mario Maker. 2. Taking a more 3D point of view over the level design, allowing to exploration through doors that lead to different paths, not a full Metroidvania but a bit of it. 3. A new art style, the actual is just ok, nothing interesting, I would love a full hand-drawn 2D Mario, something like Hollow Knight. 3. Variety in the playable characters, keep Mario and Luigi but stop adding Toads, just create a new character. 4. A different plot, we have seen the Mushroom Kingdom too many times, Peach had been kidnapped too many times, Bowser has been the villain too many times, and the Koopalings had been easy mini blessed too many times, it's time to try something new or revive some of the older kingdoms like the Bean kingdom or Sarasaland. Keep it as simple as always but please, it have to be different at least for once, 3D World did it, why the 2D line doesn't do that?
@@PlatinumAltaria Yeah, 3D World is amazing, but I'm talking about making something similar but for the 2D games. Also, 3DW doesn't have a hand drawn art style.
There's a fourth possibility Arlo didn't mention: merging New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Maker. Imagine Super Mario Maker 3 shipping with a full New Super Mario Bros. campaign. I call it Super Mario Maker 3, but the game could be marketed under a new banner so it would sell to the New Super Mario Bros. crowd and not just the smaller Mario Maker crowd. This way, New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Maker can coexist as a single, high-selling, high-quality product. Super Mario Maker 2's story mode could be a step in this direction.
I'd rather not have another Mario Maker or New Soup. I'd rather have some originality, with actual NEW content. Hell, we don't need a 3rd Mario Marker.
@@blackdot105 What about a New 2D Mario Game, I mean, I'm 99% sure people really dislike The New Soup series because they have a hate Boner for the word "New" as evidenced by the New 3DS, there are other reasons, but I feel like that's the main one So even if A New 2D Mario game was barely different, and it had a different name, people wouldn't hate it as much

Oh contrare, you can combine items and enemies to create new machanics
Exactly
Like New U did with pumping blocks
Or New Wii with the rotating floor
I think they should add a new update once a year or so, until it has every feature and game ever made in 2d mario and then start adding new features with every update, then they could make a 3d mario maker with every 3d game ever with every feature, then add more new features. (And release each game with every console)
Edit: they could add a story mode similar to mario maker 2 so it has levels packed in with the game already
I feel adding a larger cast of characters with unique abilities would be a great idea!

this. i had more fun with NSMBUD than i have with SMM2. consistent quality in level design and a sense of progression that is entirely lacking from SMM2. the new ‘world builder’ mode is too limited to reproduce the feel of a 2D Mario proper.

2D Mario can't move forward until it finally acknowledges that Wario and Waluigi exist.
Playing as waluigi is all I want out of life
Wario exist in his own games wuluigi is filler nonsense.
Super Mario Land 2
The next game should be set up like S3&K Where there's a Mario campaign and Luigi campaign that are very similar, and then a villains side where you play as the Wario Bros. (I know they're not technically brothers...). Wario's campaign takes shortcuts through walls, courtesy of his shoulder bash... maybe Waluigi can get through tighter spaces than anyone else? And we just all agree to 'forget' that Wario normally pancakes himself to do that? IDK, I've just always wanted to have a Mario game either 2D or 3D where the character select was more than just an asthetic choice or slight control variance.
Wendy O. Koopa maybe waluigi can run faster and have a bigger stomp? I dunno waluigi is just a meme by this point
This isn't about mario maker, though.
You can't trust people to not put, with lack of a better term, inappropriate things in this text. Then you would have to program an entire filter.
@@TtEL you say that like adding a filter is hard

i still think a lot about the 2d-ish sections in mario odyssey. i loved every single one of them and yet... i felt like they were kind of underutilized, like a whole game could be made out of a 2d mario platforming on the surfaces of 3d objects. i think that would be a great game, and a great future for the series.
That's actually a great new place to take 2D Mario

I think that's an idea that would suit 3d mario better, since that has MUCH more flexibility.

Makes you wonder
I've heard that in an interview Nintendo said that the best levels in SMM 2 will be an inspiration for the next 2d Mario game
Well, it can go to WONDERful places!
I Wonder what the future of Mario holds
hah.
Sure, it’s cool in 3D, but it would feel so much more refreshing for a 2D Mario game.
i'd love to have more characters ! especially different bosses like new super mario bros ds had
another thing i'd love is for an open-ish world, similar to VVVVVV. THAT is something you cant do in mario maker, even now
Just Imagine the next 2d Mario being a Metroidvania, that would be amazing
@Romanic Agreed. Like Arlo said, a new 2D Mario shouldn't stray too far from the series roots, otherwise it would be a completely different game.
I'm not against the idea of a new style of side-scrolling Mario. But if we're talking about traditional 2D Mario, then it should stay true to its own formula.
That’s exactly what I was thinking! =D
That stupid.
Retro studios would make a great 2D Mario, especially after the success of Donkey Kong

Give it a good story and have unique characters to play as. Also change the art style and make the world feel more alive.
The unique character and enemies I’m down for
@@heavydonkeykong5190 oh. That sounds good!
The lack of story is almost entirely because Miyamoto won't allow it.
The reason Galaxy 2 and Sticker Star were such a massive step back in terms of story was because he stepped in and said the story had to be nearly nonexistant. And you can see how that went, especially with Sticker Star.
Honestly I’m not sure if a 2D mario would even work with complex story.

With Captain Syrup and Waluigi playable
Better looks, a new style, new worlds, new abilities, a new progression system
Man, that sounds like a great deal.
Make the level design more lively too, it’s so boring compared to donkey Kong and rayman
@@unlimited8410 This time they should have Mario travel around the Earth with some enemies that can utilize different fighting styles.
Dang. Arlo hit it right on the nose. Pretty much just described Mario Wonder right there.
This is a really good video man, top notch quality! One of my favorites you have ever made!
Post Wonder reveal LETS GOOOOOO!!
I would really like to see 2D platform with the same style as Wario Land Shake It.
Whenever I see the words "shake it", I can't unhear the song by Metro Station lol
2:03 So wall jumping and ground pounding isn’t NEW? It changed the WHOLE game. And you could literally become mini and walk on water
Wall jumping and ground pounding were from Mario 64
georgieboat That was a 3D game
Ikr XD
I think as long as they make a new game with a brand new art style nothing like what we've seen before people will still buy a new one.
Another thing I'd like to point out... listen to the desert themes of the following 4 games:
New Super Mario Bros. Wii: ruclips.net/video/_Jpc2ZOLXRM/видео.html
New Super Mario Bros. 2: ruclips.net/video/faey21GpixU/видео.html
New Super Mario Bros. U: ruclips.net/video/tDkg-tzxdvM/видео.html
Super Mario Run: ruclips.net/video/yg31C_9uyoM/видео.html
Puzzles & Dragons: Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Wonder
"Aloha, my friends. That means hello AND goodbye!"
*video immediately freezes to buffer*
One thing I’ve always wanted to see is a full on 2.5D Mario game in a similar vein to Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.
Isn’t that what nsmb is
@@DopamineeClips Nah 2.5D is more like color splash
@@NCMenace_ ...
2.5D is the term most commonly used to refer to NSMB. Tropical Freeze is also a 2.5D game. The term refers to a game that uses 3D models in a 2D plane.
@Pinecone Snowstorm No tropical freeze is but not NSMB. 2.5D adds depth and a 3D feel to a 2D environment like the 3D world style in Super Mario Maker 2. In a 2.5D game, you can only move up, down, left, and/or right like in 2D games, but your character moves around 3D environments
@@NCMenace_ so like mario 3d world?
How about changing the story, making Bowser playable as an ally, and introducing a new villain and henchmen? That way, it’ll feel fresh, and Nintendo can get away with being essentially a curator of content for Mario thanks to their trusted quality seal and all. Customers will trust Nintendo to make a fun, balanced, and cohesive product in contrast to the randomness of SMM2
I sure do WONDER
There are a couple of things that I would LOVE to see in a new 2D Mario, new in the sense of the essence and not in the sense of the "New. Super Mario Bros." series:
It's called Super Mario 3D World, it was released in 2013 and is a masterpiece of simple platforming.
@@PlatinumAltaria Yeah, 3D World is amazing, but I'm talking about making something similar but for the 2D games. Also, 3DW doesn't have a hand drawn art style.
13:33 Best quote of the year
MONEY MONEY MONEY, KEEP THEM COMING
@@blackdot105 What about a New 2D Mario Game, I mean, I'm 99% sure people really dislike The New Soup series because they have a hate Boner for the word "New" as evidenced by the New 3DS, there are other reasons, but I feel like that's the main one
So even if A New 2D Mario game was barely different, and it had a different name, people wouldn't hate it as much
@@Gamebuilder2000 The problem with the New Super Mario Bros games isn't the title, it's that they're all bland and have little innovation from each other. You played 1, you played them all. An actual new 2D mario game is what most people want. The title's got nothing to do with it.
We need a LEGIT 2D Mario game.
It's not out of the question because there's a lot of games like the Mario Vs Donkey Kong series that have those features without having them be separate games
I love how I'm 11 minutes into this video, and he's still summarizing what he just told us in the first 2 minutes.
NO really, I love it. no sarcasm at all. XD
