The diver can never stop the rally.
The opponent has only 1 chance to stop the rally immediately after the diver has hit the ball and before he hits it.
The referee can stop play whenever.

So what is the ruling for the last incident shown? The opponent plays the ball after the Rodriguez dive but after the ball is subsequently returned he falls foul of the wet surface presumably before the referee had opportunity to stop play.

Technically the player is too late to stop (already played a shot) and the referee didn't stop the play so it would be No Let. But any decent referee should still be calling Let the moment the player slips i'd say. Referee made a wrong judgement call that continuing play was safe and should correct that ASAP.

Question: Why did the ref NOT stop the rally for James vs Rodriguez? The rally had been comfortably reset and an attack to the front right could have come at any time, in which case the players would have to commit to a dangerous movement before the referee could react.
