Honestly, the new GWM Cannon cab range is a beast of a ute, but that logo badge though... It's like they took a great design and said, 'Let's add some extra clutter!' Still, can't deny the ute's capabilities and value for money. Maybe just a minor facelift needed?
My Nissan Navara single cab with tray didn't have a lockable fuel cap. I live in a rural area and there are quite a few GWMs including some of the older ones. There are a lot of poor cockies which is why these sell reasonably well. Those with them tend to swear by them rather than swear at them. They seem OK but the engine is a little underdone and the fuel economy isn't good enough. Part of that would come down to the weight.
Agree, I find my visibility partially obstructed by the drivers right rear vision mirror and A pillar when turning right and or maneuvering roundabouts. I picked up my Cannon UTE from the panel beaters 3 days ago following repair to right rear passenger door, after someone backed into it. When I picked it up the panel beater advised they were waiting for a fitting that controls the window. Very annoying as I soon discovered non of the windows were opening, the camera lights forward and rear flashed warning signals, and the gear selector consol light was not lit up. What I discovered was the protective wiring cover; situated where the right rear passenger door is hinged, was poorly fitted? With little effort I fiddled about refitting it and gave it a slap LOL. Curiously this seemed to fix the problems. I also found adjusting the cameras by switching between 2D or 3D settled the issue of warning signals randomly going off or turning AVM off. Iv also come to learn the forb keyless start and certain opening closing door operations up will not work if any window controls are not functioning properly. And the heating system will regulate cabin temps to remain below a certain point. Thats what I have come to find out. These are safety mechanism.
resale is poor but you save $10k at the start - put $10k in an index fund and see how you go... also these things have been on the market since the start of covid.,... ie. Xmas 2020 - and so with 4yrs on the market... people know what the ins and outs are... i do get the lack of power... but surely the aftermarket has that sorted out? you can get mid spec models for well under $40k,,,
You've mentioned two things that have nothing to do with the vehicle: 1) In order to get around the resale issue you have to invest money into an index fund? 2) To fix the power/torque inadequacies you need to modify the vehicle, potentially voiding warranty and/or insurance? Don't get me wrong, I see a lot of good things to come from this brand. It is growing at a rapid rate. But right now, its products are not up to the level of the more established players. But yep, they are cheap. So it's a punt. P.S. Being around since 2020 is very young (that's only 4 years of collecting data): -Isuzu D-Max since 2002 as a nameplate, and 1980 as the Holden Rodeo (44 years) -Mitsubishi Triton since 1978 (46 years) -Toyota HiLux since 1968 (56 years) That's a shipload of additional data and knowledge. And in my opinion, that's where the GWM is mostly let down. It doesn't know (yet) what works best, what materials to use where, what buttons should do what, if the fuel cap should be lockable, if the steering column should be fully adjustable, how to deal with warranty claims (because it probably hasn't had as many as the veterans, yet) etc etc. I am certain most of these issues will be fixed with the next model.
@drivingenthusiastaustralia support who supports you. China support Australia. They are the biggest buyer of Australian goods. Most of these cars are made by Australian lithium and iron. Most Australian cars in the world
A few things. All you needed to do was turn AVM off to stop the camera coming up once you're below 15 kph or stopped. Press and hold ok to use the buttons on the left, or turn lane keep assist off. As for resale on these Chinese cars. . . Cars are and should be viewed as depreciating assets, not investments (unless its a classic or collectable). We've certainly all swallowed the Toyota Koolaid. I decided to save the 30+ thousand dollars and buy a Cannon X. So I'm biased, but I'm also a diesel mechanic, and I'm really impressed with what GWM have put out.
$30,000 saved on the mortage at 7% is $2100 per annum over 10 years of vehicle ownership = $21,000 of interest saved alone. + the $30,000 I didn't spend. You're 2023 Hilux won't be worth $51,000 more than my Cannon in 2033.
@@jamie7351 Thanks. This is a review mate and these are my criticisms. No car is perfect in my opinion. Resale is important to some buyers, especially private buyers. And yes they are not investments but some rivals will hold their value more. Just facts. You can spin it around and look at it from any angle that makes you feel better, that’s ok. All I needed to do was… see that’s the issue. I have to do those actions every time I start the vehicle (as I pointed out in the video). I know GWM will fix these for the next model, which proves it is not a smooth process. Overall it is a decent package, as I said. Especially for the money. It just needs a few things tweaked to make it better.
I do 45000ks a year like most tradies.I don't know why people buy these utes as a family car because they are not. They are a commercial vehicle. If it's using 1.5 litres more than a 3 litre damax then your better buying the d Max also the servicing is to close together and resale will suck.
@@JB-mf5do So the one-way adjustable steering column, high fuel consumption (comparatively), high emissions (comparatively), low power and torque outputs (comparatively), unusual in-car functions, and low resale are all good traits to you? In other words, I should try to do my job poorly and not mention these? At the end of the day I want GWM to build better vehicles, which it will if we all provide feedback (like any brand).
The mesh and poles you keep referring to are known as a "Headboard" on a tray, a legal requirement now so as items don't come spearing thru rear window. Weird thing is, ute tub bodies carring loads don't require a headboard, guess we're relying on ute tub owners restraining their load, haha, yeah right, as if that happens, some are litigious, many aren't. I personally like the canon range and yes they are becoming popular in rural areas as old mate says in comments. The Mahindra pickups are becoming popular ruraly also. Rural Toyota dealers would be aware a transition is happening, decling sales as we all know the dollar speaks, especially in a cockies world, where a young cashed up tradie wants to be seen in the latest fad over priced over hyped V8 79 series (coincidentally, slower to 100 than a Cannon or Mahindra). If it's not a 79 its a Ranger. The smart ones will buy the Cannon and put savings into investments, then be on selling his 79/Ranger mates the investments he purchased previously at inflated prices later in life. Who's the winner now?

Most fuel caps on tray cabs don’t lock, there is a surge baffle down low in there, you won’t get hose through them normally.
