Great looking vehicle, plug in hybrid give more flexibility, we are setting up for full of grid full-time caravanning with 3t towing, like the option of a plug in hybrid and regeneration capable of towing 3t, with reasonable payload. Price would need to be competitive and capable of reducing fringe benefits tax in a lease.
regarding some obnoxious safety not systems, some car manufacturers have programable buttons and you can set it to turn off those features within one click. We defo need this in GWM cars
It looks awesome and the interior is very nice. Looking forward to the tow review. Please please GWM, get rid of the poer badge at the front and replace with GWM 😊
@@roadtrip_reviews as you said the GWM Alpha is a normal hybrid, put gas in & the comp works out the savings, do you know if the PHEV BYD Shark 6 can do the same, ( meaning if I have low battery, but top up the gas, cM I move the BYD, or would I be stranded without walking with a 300ft extension chord, & a stone to knock on random people's doors 12oock at night,) because my country won't get charging stations until 2034.56....
That’s pretty cool thank you! So this car was actually a car direct from GWM themselves, however my Tank 500 Hybrid review was thanks to a vehicle loaned to me by Barton’s GWM Capalaba. If you send through a message to my Facebook/Instagram accounts, I can help get you a great deal.
All indications so far point to yes. The brand has invested (and continues to invest) heavily into long term research and production facilities globally
Yes and no, as mentioned in the review, the hybrid itself isn’t set up for fuel economy rather the other benefits of a hybrid drivetrain so it’s not like a Camry Hybrid for example. However still used less fuel than my Hilux diesel use to.
What is Australia going to do with all these dud cars when the batteries die. Why are we a dumping ground for sub standard vehicles. Who is taking this to the Cape….
You should really educate yourself on hybrid vehicles and technology. This isn’t new technology (having myself owned a couple of hybrids now well over 150,000km on each before selling and less problems than my new Hilux and Landcruiser diesels.)
Also, the number of people actually driving to the Cape is minimal vs the people buying large family 4x4s, so again, not the best reference, though I wouldn’t doubt this will make it. These also aren’t substandard vehicles. Appreciate you commenting and sharing your views but instead of being influenced by fear-mongering, go experience these cars first hand

Plug-in would definitely be interesting to test out.

100% would be a feature I’d love to see soon

Thank you for your feedback
Liked your review. So keen for the towing test. I think you’d be one of the first to do it, which will be awesome 🙌
Thanks mate stay tuned
I'd be interested in a comparison between the Cannon Alpha hybrid and the BYD Shark
Very different cars from a purpose point but we will try to make it happen. BYD Australia are just very difficult to work with.

Very thorough. Thank You.
No problem. Thanks for watching. Let me know what else you’d like to see
GWN always said it is not about economy, it is about power for towing and yes it t I ws very well.
Correct, definitely not about being fuel efficient, but definitely about additional power and better torque delivery! Glad you’re enjoying yours.
Please can you use a diesel for the tow test
Great review
Trying to arrange both vehicles so stay tuned.
Also thanks for the feedback 🙂
Try using the power setting. It will change your view on its power. I took delivery of my alpha 3 weeks ago. I love it..
Will give it a crack. Thanks for the advice

Can you let me know which GWM helped you out? If I look at buying one, I would prefer to support the dealer supporting you.

Would love a tow test on a 2.5t caravan. Tank 500 V Alpha diesel and Hybrid
Working on this as we speak 🙂
Do you think the car is reliable for long term ?
All indications so far point to yes. The brand has invested (and continues to invest) heavily into long term research and production facilities globally
do you have any links to online manuals for the 2.4l diesel you can share with us?
Unfortunately not sorry.
Trying to organise a review for one though
Poer in Chinese = Power
Thanks for sharing
You forgot to show the suspensions... 😢.
Maybe next time. This was an on-road test not an off-road test.
Quite thirsty
