I'm using a TP 4070cm 2200kv 8s motor and a Hobbywing Max 5 in my very modified Rustler 2wd. There is so much power going to the rear wheels for which I have Jaco foams. If the wheel nuts aren't tightened with the proper tool it loosens and the jaco hex got rounded out. What I do is I got plastic weld and mixed it with crazy glue and put in the hex rim groove and then I put a cheap hex hub inside the Jaco tire hex rim groove for a minute just for the plastic weld around the jaco hex groove to dry up a bit and pulled it out. It took the form of the hex and left it to dry for about 4 hours in the hot sun. When I tried driving my car the jaco rim and tires hold firmly and aren't backing out.
Kevin Talbot when you measure drill bits, if you put them long ways in the calipers, it will always measure the high spots because it gets the entire spiral between the caliper ears. Just how we do it here in our machine shop 😎
You guys are doing it the hard way... First off it does not matter if you drill all the way through the hex adapter as a matter of fact you start out by drilling two holes in the hex before you glue it in the wheel then when you put it in the wheel... you drill directly through the holes that you've already drilled into the wheel... Use a drill bit one size smaller than the PIN and then you are able to push it in the hole with a pair of pliers... And very important make sure you use permanent threadlocker on your wheel nut....it sucks when you have to take your tire off bit I haven't had one fail yet
Hello Kevin, don't know if you will read this or respond but I'm running 4S Castle systems on my 2wd stampede that I bought new in the late 90's. Great truck you can imagine all the parts now are VXL5 parts but I kept having the same problem with the wheel hex nuts spinning out the back side of the wheel. I found a fix. Get the metal hex nut that goes on the axle. clean both surfaces good. This is important because I tried what you did minus the set pin and the glue kept giving way. The problem is the wall on the wheel side is so thin that with the torque we are producing actually stretches out the hex on the back of the wheel. I'm running clod buster tires. When gluing glob the glue where the hex nut sits but also around the outside of the wheels hex it's self. Put some glue one the wheel it's self on the outside wall of the hex so that the hex on the wheel cant blow out or stretch. cheers
I actually just did this with a set of proline beadlocks. I cut a plastic washer and put it in the gap between the hex and the stripped out hole all around the hex itself. Then I used an epoxy to glue it in. So far so good!
As far as the superglue, use the super glue in conjunction with baking soda, it hardens to a hard durable plastic, I’ve used it to fix a broken A-Arm mount on my Slash
What a smart guy, look at u with all these good ideas! Ur brotha is proud of u Kev! We call those C clamps not G clamps, lol but it could look like either one,the international name for it hand vise thing a ma jig! Lol Ur right brotha we r a big rc family! That’s what I call it too! Good stuff Kev glad u got this sorted out, n very cool u sharing ur rc knowledge with ur brothas! 👍👍👊👊📹📹 trial n error Kev! Shoe goo with the CA glue is a great combo also
the problem in plastic with a metal drill is that the helix is what pulls the drill in. you want to make the first bit straight(paralell) with the drill itselve so it scrapes instaid of pulls.. that way. you can even drill plexiglass without cracking it up. and drill much more precise depth.
Hey Kev, thanks for the great vids man. One durability question for you. On the stock aluminium motor mount, have you ever had issues with the big bearing for spur gear? I ask because there are some newer mounts that have larger bearings included with them. Just wondering if they are actually necessary. From Hot Racing or King Headz.
I figured it would have been a whole lot easier if you just dismounted the tire and mounted it on another slash wheel. Also, do you do any prep work with your tires? I'm assuming you just backyard bash.
I have a slash 4x4 with mip x-duties and stripped the inside of the plastic wheel on 3s with the mip metal hex, yes the wheels are on tight AND with loctite. Any other solutions aside from switching to 17mm adapters & wheels?
You might want to try putting a washer on the nut side to capture the pin on the ones where you don't drill all the way through or maybe just file a bit off the end of the pins, either way nice idea, and looking forward to see if that holds up. Also, you tend to run a lot of power, maybe you should go with 2 pins per, and spread the load that's gonna go through those a bit more evenly. Again, awesome vid.
Hey Kevin I've had a problem like your and it may be your axle blocks and caster blocks , when the bearing heat up the expand and cause the metal or plastic to come lose and your tires
Tried fixing it with super glue didn't last long fixed my redcat blackout xte pro finally and after getting it all fixed so I could test out my tires and the glued wheel came off the hex hub and hex are both rounded out
My long board wheels don’t ever come off and i get up too 40 washers both ends.thin washers.like for skateboard wheels there is a thin washer between the baring and the axel so your wheels doest work it self off.
its called a C clamp in the US.....lol..........theyre really helpfull when ya doing a brake caliper job on ya truck or car......to compress the calipers...
I this exact same thing to bypass my slipper clutch in my old savage xs because it kept burrning through slipper pads and it held up great but it was super hard to drill throught the solid steel assembly
I thought everyone was crazy when they were saying it's so annoying when hexes strip yet I could never manage to strip mine but I put a diff locker in and did a donut and it stripped within minutes 😭
I literally have a plastic box FULL of stripped out wheels!
This is a awesome idea, thanks a lot for the tip! I have a lot of work to do now👍🏼
Can always try some epoxy or job weld

Just a little piece of wood between the hex and the C-clamp. Two part epoxy works great. I use JB Weld.
Keeping it real...i dont wanna see perfection every time 👍
That’s clamp is called a c clamp also love the videos can’t find any other rc RUclipsr that’s as good as you
Once again sweet video bro!

No issues yet dude :)
Exceptional job! I like how you think Kev!

I glued the hexes on and the place for the pin in the hexes rounded off as well
Wish I would’ve found this video before I bought new wheels, but anyway I’ve now got Stampede wheels on my slash 2wd

you jused the hammer good job kev!
Did you ever make another video to see if the pins fixed the problem?
Not a bad idea, keep it up Kev.
Hey Kevin I've had a problem like your and it may be your axle blocks and caster blocks , when the bearing heat up the expand and cause the metal or plastic to come lose and your tires
us Americans call them C clamps
but they G shaped :O
Yup g clamp sounds weird to me lol
they r also shaped like a c
Caden D I'm pretty sure i caught C clamps from a dirty munter in a night club once 😵😎😂👍
G clam c lamp let's call them screwy clamps
Hey Kevin, did it work?
I use a product called, Shoe Goo. And glue the hexs in place. Holding up on 3s!
trying shoe goo on 4s might drill a pin in it 2
17mm hex/wheel adapters Kev or is ther something I'm missing ???
When u getting the nitro out for a bash?
soon
A quick and easy way to sharpen drill bits is always nice. please prey tell
That’s awesome I’m gonna start calling them g clamps now lol
My hex chewed out the pin slots so i flipped the hex and notched it worked so far!
Hey kev you should try a grub screw instead of glue and pins. I feel like it might be better and it would be replaceable if the hex pin spins out
love that its a slash tire in the thumbnail
Thank you I do it all the time
Tried fixing it with super glue didn't last long fixed my redcat blackout xte pro finally and after getting it all fixed so I could test out my tires and the glued wheel came off the hex hub and hex are both rounded out

Same thing happened to me but the wheel is stuck on how could I get that off
Not tried a pin through the hub but I glue the hex in. Used alli ones but just ate through the wheel quicker.
we 'Mericans call em C clamps. Also, that ZAP-A-GAP CA glue is the exact same stuff I use for RC! Best stuff eva!!!
Hi kevin when can I bash with you dude
I generally only bash with friends but I may organise a bash day if I can find a suitable location :)
Cheers kev
I've been having this problem for the past few days with my MIP driveshafts
Ever fix your problem? I'm having same issues with my mips
To measure a drill bit measure the shank not the cutting flutes.
American here... and i think G clamp.. is the way to go.
I use a meatless hex nut the grease on. After it dries you can pull it out
I stripped my slash 4x4 hex in a weird way. The pin part of the hex stripped. Idk how it happened
should do some more videos on your mining rig
Baking soda will instantly cure certain super glues
ive never understood americans laughing at me when i lived state side and i said G clamp, better name than c clamp lol
RC sparks or Kevin Talbot
I car my daily Kevin Talbot easy
They are both amazing
Both guys are a riot 😆
You're joking right. Spark it up
Both 😂🙄
That’s a genius idea!!!
buy wheels with the metal insert 🤔 had the same problem with my Baja b5 until I got the metal inserts never had a problem since
Drill holes undersized and press fit them.
I might be a goof, but I think a G clamp is a sexual device. lol.
when are we gonna see XO-1 backflips, vs XMAXX, vs skate park, and, worst of all, most carnage filled, XO-1 vs Talon tires?
send me an ox1 ill do it :)
uh...
Hey bro an XO-1 is 800 dollars and it only and 6 mm clearance and how are you gonna fit tallon tires XD
Plus it goes 100+ miles mph
um... extensions?
I wanna know how to sharpen a drill bit!!
Use two per wheel nuts. I think your on to something KT.👍
Kevin have u been drinking that G clamp ,stuggle
Did this work?
hot glue work?
Super awesome video
If you take plastic weld and the hex and stick it in the rim with the c lamp it will hold forever
When you getting an rc junkies sticker?
Epoxy would fill out the space between the wheel and but better than super glue
Good luck with that on 3s I switched to metal hex and had to buy new wheels the whole hub rounded off
Super Idee 😎👍👍👍
Good idea!!
I think you should say it however you want in my opinion I call it a C clamp but a G clamp is fine with me
This even happend to my slash 2wd brushed. YOU NEED THE UPGRADE
good idea what about a plastic glue gun a bit like the mini glue gun ,but it uses plastic instead of glue ..maybe cant get in uk
no ones ever noticed me in the commit section
G clamp 😂 it’s a C clamp 🗿
drill bit vid plz
Super glue in the wheel, ACTIVATOR ON THE HEX BEFORE U INSERT IT!!!!!! that would do it for u even without a clamp!
Pls get a 1/16 e revo!!!!!
I thought everyone was crazy when they were saying it's so annoying when hexes strip yet I could never manage to strip mine but I put a diff locker in and did a donut and it stripped within minutes 😭
Sharpen some grill bits
Use some tire glue.. i use it for alot...
That is a g clamp a c clamp is straighter on the top
Yes
G clamp c clamp same diff bro it's all good
Lol we call them c clamps but hey it looks more like a g than a c!
Intenta remplazar por una tuerca Metallica de 17 mm y verás el cambio,,no más mamadas de pegantes
If you use screws, will be a lot easier
can i get pinned. i love your vids i look up to you
Maybe if you make a comment worth pinning :)
no one ever noticed me in the commit section
I’ve stripped millions of hexes
Electric drill bit sharpener
Too bad the Erevo has a darn pin
Lol just did this but with jb weld
Notification squad
Yes I'm American & I'm making fun of you. G-clamp lol
first
Edit: Come on!!!!!!! 2 sec late :(
Shorten your pins.
You doing surgery on the tire bro you need mask and gloves. :)
C clip it's in the shape of a C... n way to big of one lol
Why don't you use nuts n make your own pal..
Epoxy
