It also inspires me to do things in my own life that are new to me. And I agree with those who have noticed that motherhood has been good for Courtney... she is absolutely glowing! Little Oliver is very lucky to have parents like Riley and Courtney and I think he has a great future ahead of him!

  • @rushd45

Here's an observation, which hopefully you've already considered - in your area, Sandpoint ID, there is an average of about 23" of rain (not including snowfall) per year, the footprint of your shop/home (30x40) is 1200sqft. that means that for every square foot of footprint, 23" of rain falls on it which totals 27,600 cubic feet of water per year, which is 206,462 gallons of water per year...
So as an alternative to your future system, all you'd have to do is buy and bury a tank (like you've just done) and get an advanced rainwater filtration system such as reverse osmosis, activated charcoal system, etc.
Can you tell us why you didn't go the water harvesting route?
Congrats on the Diesel Creek t-shirt😀

It will be fine, even if the top layer of the cistern freezes like a lake the geothermal properties of the surrounding water will keep it thawed. Leaving the cistern accessible will allow them to reach their pumps, or manually fill or repair it if it sustains any damage.

    • @TheE2X
      @TheE2X Год назад +2

Place some foam isolation over the grund, but under the top layer gravel where the waterlines and the tank is placed and there is no problem.
      5-10cm should be sufficient.
But if the old water line with a very low flow didn't freeze, the new water line will definitely not freeze. It have a higer flow, placed behind the house where there is less wind and a big hill - the ground will freeze less there.

Hydraulic controls stick every once in a while. That is the reason I take my hands off the controls and hold them up in the air whenever anyone walks into the area of swing. I also slow the throttle when I am around anything that breaks easily, it gives me more time to react if I get runaway motion. Safety would be a good topic for you to do a video on, especially since you are going to have a toddler darting around shortly.
I have three excavators and you would think that the smaller bucket is the best for electric and water lines, but other than a cable spade, the dirt settles flat faster in a wider trench.

When doing a concrete pour its better to put water in first then the dry mix so when churning the material rolls into moisture in the hopper. Adding in the water after the bag makes more dust and dry pockets that often fail to get mixed readily since their essentially bubbles of sorts. By putting the water in first preferably while it turning doing a full mix makes a thin slurry between batches so can't cling to paddles etc. when bag goes in. The bigger excavator seems rather clapped out or needing a lot of repair and maintenance since it shouldn't shutter like this but hopefully its low on hydraulic fluid more than anything else..👾

I’m not that familiar with air, water extractors, but it looks like a viable option. Wish you guys all the luck in the world, what a cute little baby. You guys rock!

As you guys have some serious snow and cold, and lots of it, I am very surprised that you did not add some serious lagging to prevent it all freezing up. If I were doing this type of project I would have placed 4” polystyrene, ( at least 4”) all around the tank. We would do this in UK, albeit we don’t suffer from the winter weather you guys have. Good luck. Tony

So thankful for the health, energy and brains that God has given you two! Your place is beautiful and functional. God’s blessings on sweet baby Oliver!
That storm was a, “We praise You, El Shaddai!” storm.
We’ve enjoyed your channel for probably about as long as you’ve had it.
    God’s blessings!

Hey guys funny here in Australia if you live of grid rain water storage is life or death for consumption and fire fighting I've been watching you for some time now and always wondered why you had no rain water tanks to catch roof run off but I guess it would freeze in winter your weather is certainly one extreme to the other but as always really enjoyed this video at 66yrs old now I can watch you guys living my off grid dream from the comfort of my lounge Thanks
    Cheers Kym

I can't wait for next week to see the atmospheric water generator in action! I hope you address how you will use it in the winter, if at all.
