Luca can also be in refrence to L.U.C.A Last Universal Common Ancestor. The creature that is said to be the last know relative to all species on primitive earth as we were all evolving into the different creatures and eventually came to land... You see the connection?

I don't know what it is about Luca that just interest me so much. It's just so fun and whimsical that I can't help but smile, and it makes me feel like a kid again. The characters are funny and original, and the animation looks amazing. I'm just gonna say it, I will probably enjoy this more than stuff like Frozen or Zootopia
I have the same feeling! I think it’s because the character design doesn’t look realistic but more cartoonistic! If you think about it, Disney’s most recent movie, Rays, just looks too realistic and Ray’s just looks like a boring regular, animated “human,” these guys look like fun “characters”!!

It’s kind of funny, I think the ability for a monster to turn into a human would actually be a really useful one in monsters inc! Imagine waking up to find a boy in your closet, he creeps towards you looking frightened then suddenly he transforms jumps on your bed post and shrieks at you... pretty terrifying... in monsters University Terri and Terry do something very similar with their silhouette but this is on a whole bother level! If they were banished, monsters incorporated missed out on one majorly powerful employee!

So what I'm hearing is there's a possibility that the Loch Ness monster was banished, The Shape of Water happened, and now we have sea monster/ human hybrids.
Maybe it was only a couple of sea monsters, they reproduced and “unmutated” (I know that’s not how it works) and gained the ability to be closer to human (since monsters are related to humans in this universe)

Technically they would only need to banish 2 sea monsters to Italy and then they could reproduce and years later there would be a whole lot of sea monsters in that area like we see in Luca. Or maybe it was only one sea monster that got banished and somehow it was able to reproduce with a human and that’s why now there are sea monsters that can transform into humans.

Though it was fresh water, Loch Ness also is a fresh water creature and not a sea creature so both have the same weight into the theory.

Here’s my theory on the matter: The “sea monsters” are an evolved form of people that were seen as dangerous by the normal people. (Oh yeah this is post-Wall-e by the way). The sea monsters evolved more and more and kept attempting to attack/scare the people, but were always defeated. The people on that crew in wall e seemed pretty dumb. What if not all monsters live in the same society we saw in Monsters inc? They could belong to a tribe living somwhere else and use time travel with a different purpose. It's also possible they are mosters from the past in the monsters's timeline, so they had a way into the "human world", but didn't know what it really meant or how to power anything with it.
Something I thought about regarding Monsters Inc. The title sequence has a serpent-like monster that eats a few titles but gets the M stuck in its mouth. And is later seen dropping said M into the actual title of the movie. The fountain depicts a serpant-like sea monster. I know they don't really look the same, and the sea monster looks more like the depictions of sea monsters from old world maps. But it's still a fun comparison.

A solid example would be the saltwater crocodile. Notice the tail on Luca and note the salinity of the Italian Riviera. Luca is a crocodile.

I have a thing to say to the theory part with the monsters travel back in time. I just watched Monsters inc. yesterday and Waternoose (the chairman of monsters inc.) said one time in the film that the children are not so easy to scare anymore. When they really do time travel, why don’t they just travel with the Doors to a time where the children were easier to scare?

I have a thing to say to the theory part with the monsters travel back in time. I just watched Monsters inc. yesterday and Waternoose (the chairman of monsters inc.) said one time in the film that the children are not so easy to scare anymore. When they really do time travel, why don’t they just travel with the Doors to a time where the children were easier to scare?
It's because in this universe, once a certain point of time hss passed, the monsters can't access that point in time anymore.
