Guys, keep in mind that the keyword is sharpen. It is simply impossible to bring a photo back from the brink of death (blurry to the point where there are no details). Youre better of trying some AI software, but even then, the eyes will not be that of the original user.

I don't think any one is expecting to be able to bring a photo back from "the brink of death", but your example photo has only the slightest bit of a blur, only noticeable by the most discerning eye. I think you could have chosen a more typical photo to demonstrate.

Should'nt AI and generative fill be able to do that now ?

This method works SO much better than all the other tutorials online. I used it once to great effect, but forgot some of the steps when I needed it again. I ended up using the other methods listed by other tutorials (including Adobe themselves). None of them even came close to being as effective. Glad I was able to find this video again!

Now I understand the theory you're applying. So this solution works if we apply our own pixelation to the image whereby the intended effect is to reduce by contrast the areas that are pixelated to the eye by blurring the background of the subject via masking, and then clarifying the essential attributes of the subject by subsequently sharpening just those areas

Great, it works well for me, 3 pixels may be too little or too much, it really depends on the image quality you're working with and the degree of recovery required.

This issue is a bit old, but just in case anyone else has this problem. On the video, they used an inverted layer mask (on mac, hold option when clicking to create mask) perhaps thats why it wasnt working when you brushed over it.

      It's a layer mask.
Black means MASKED, white means that it ALLOWS effects from layers above to be visible.
It's just like cutting a hole in a cutout. The white is the hole, the black is the cutout
