  • One of my favorite times of year is the Halloween season. I decorate the house each year and build different props for the yard. I try to make the house a fun destination for trick-or-treaters. This year I’m adding a jail to my Old West Ghost Town. This video will show you how I age wood quickly using the vinegar and steel wool method. This makes it look like it has been outside in the elements for years. This quick aging method shows results in 10 minutes.

Thank you for this, I love weathered wood and as it is so hard to find and if you do find it it is too rotten for use. So thank you so much! (A friend of mine told me about this so I looked it up and there you were)

Thanks for the feedback. It is a pretty easy and effective technique. Glad you found it. Let me know how your project turns out.

Better way . Wash steel wool with Dawn dish soap . Rinse it real good , dry then put in bucket or jar with vinegar. Will dissovle quicker because it won't have to eat through the fine oil coating on the steelwool .

From the looks of your picnic table, it makes one wonder if you used this technique on it. The table definitely has a more uniform finish.

That’s the finish that came on it when I bought it, lol. Thanks for watching!

Is this permanent? I want to age some wood game pieces that I plan to seal with linseed oil afterwards, and want to avoid using chemical stain if possible. Thanks! 😊

Hi, yes it is permanent. I think it’s a good idea to seal it after you’re done. Good luck on your project!
