Its way lower, just like 4 liters ad blue over like 2000 km, which is a milage of roughly 1000 miles per gallon. Furthermore urea isn’t taxed highly and usually costs like half of diesel.
This will have to go if i ever buy a modern diesel...one of the main reasons i like diesels is the DIRT and the NOISE...and i love blowing big black clouds at tailgaters...
AD Blue is used for a while on Big truks, is a very clean sistem, i have 5 MAN truks and all of them have this sistem installed. thsi is the future for clean engines, with the old tecknologie this euro 6 can not happened!
+Brad Hamilton standard on some passats. In new zealand and australia all VW's have them. In the US the jetta, golf do not. Time will tell if this alone will fix the some 40x nox problem. California will whine the loudest and I dread what they will do to my 7 month old car.
moonreft I just bought the 2015 Passat TDI a few days before the news broke and mine has it. So I hear you there when it comes to California. Check out the interesting graph...N2O is going down or staying level, not up. www3.epa.gov/climatechange/ghgemissions/gases/n2o.html
The problem was, that in order to reach the service intervals with the ad blue consumption, VW and other manufacturers were installing cheating software that temporarily shut off the catalytic converter snd emitted the NOXs again.
Do you mean that the ad blue deplets very fast after a software update? This is actually the system working as the regulators wants it. The alternative is illegally shutting the system down.
This is a stupid system implemented way to quickly to meet emission standards. Most modern producers of these systems have issues with them down the road. What i find frustrating is that they use such a hard and corrosive substance to "clean" the remaining pollutants
And every one of those is a restriction in the exhaust, that takes MORE fuel to generate more pressure to overcome, so the car loses fuel efficiency. At some point you have negated any decrease in the INSTANTANEOUS emissions measurement by the increase in fuel consumption to achieve it. I'll keep my old VW that gets 50mpg with the EGR disabled; no one can successfully argue to me that all the emissions junk is beneficial over the life of the car when it knocks the mileage down by 25% or more!
Diesels used to be simple efficient and easy to work on, now with this adblue shit you got all these sensors, injectors, filters on the exhaust system it's ridiculous and none are cheap you couldn't give me a new Mercedez or Audi/VW diesel all junk!
MGB 72UK Its not even about that I can afford one but makes no sense to own one now a days diesel fuel is more expensive and all this emission shit it's not practical and old vw or merc diesels are the best bulletproof you can say not anymore you go ahead and work/own one of these new diesels and see
A Arr I've owned a Mercedes BlueTec for years now and achieve an average of 53MPG on my daily commute. I haven't had any issues with it at all, since it is properly maintained. Diesel often falls cheaper per litre than petrol here. So for long commutes, diesels are a no brainer, hence why every car manufacturers is now pushing them in to their lines. Petrol still has its place in the world too.
Was travelling along Europe for 5000km+ and warning popped up to refill adblue, or else I will be unable to start after 160km. Yes, warning of 160km, not 1500mi as advertised. This happened in late evening on Friday and all service centers were closed. We have continued over night and visited over 10 fuel stations for this piss along the way, and none had any. We went way past 0km limit and then had to keep the engine running each time we stopped, also had to disable the auto start-stop system just to survive the night. We made it to hotel in morning on saturday and obviously could not leave it running. So it's saturday now, car does not start, with Sunday tomorrow. All service centers are closed, no fuel stations or stores have the stuff. I mean, I could start and drive it without cooling fluid or even oil, but this somehow is the most critical part of car. And there is no "emergency start" feature. What an idiot has decided to make it this way? Passat 2012. This is just pathetic. Will get this sorted and get rid of the car ASAP. My next car is electric. Car has to serve me, not vice versa.
It has begun! Now cars are more like rocketscience :/ thats why until I earn 1m per year I wont buy this type of shit cars, when total failure of this ECO system occurs it costs like 1/10 of cars price to fix it...
I dont mind the Adblue system but customers shouldn't be responsible for a system malfunction if there is no service interval for it.
Perfect for guys! Now when pulling over to take a piss, instead of going in the weeds we can fill the urea tank.
Hmmm......what is the consumption of the urea?
Higher or lower than the fuel?

1 gallon per 10k miles
From what i have heard it should be enough so that its refilled each time you car is in for a service.
It has to be refilled a bot more often, when you have a proper software running, not that illegal shit.
Great when it works

Isn't this supposed to solve the issue which is in the headlines for VW releasing too much NOx according to the EPA police?

This didn't age well

How to repair ad blue consumption problem

Diesel should just not be used in consumer cars. The diesel engine is just not designed for city stop and go.
Gracias 😁😊😊😊 capitán

Greta like this shit 😢
Man, I can't even add 2. Lol
Anybody who comments on why this system doesn't work is an idiot.
This system dos work, it's just VW didn't have this installed.
