Glad to see a Tdi video where the fix isn't just deleting the emissions stuff. I mean there is a reason why it's there. In a time when we are moving to electric or hydrogen cars, I think it is important that we keep emotions down so that we still can drive gas and diesel cars
Today I followed this information from your video to remove and replace the ad blue reductant heater ,completed with ramps on the driveway , all went to plan took around 2.5 hours from start to finish, no real issues, thank you Charles
Thanks for posting this video. I just changed my Adblue heater tonight, took about 2.5 hours, by myself, with just putting the rear of my Touareg on ramps.

If you haven't done it yet, could you go through cleaning the soot out of your intake, throttle body, egr pipe? I've cleaned the throttle body a couple of times, but haven't gone as far as removing the intake manifold on my Touareg. Would be interesting to see the whole process by a pro.
Excellent video, thanks! My 2014 Sharan has the "P205B Reductant tank temp sensor - implausible signal code 9688" error message on VCDS. My question is: Can the sensor be replaced on its own, or do I have to replace the whole AdBlue tank heater unit like in your video? Thanks

This volkswagens evething is a pain in the knee to work on
Humble, thank you for taking time to post all of these great vids, im not mechanically inclined and don't have your skills & knowledge appreciate seeing all the technical stuff. I have a 2015 Sportwagen 2.0 TDI sitting at a VW dealership one year still waiting on the def tank, lucky me im still under warranty, pretty frustrating. Are there after market companies marking this tank for future problems when im out of warranty ? Do I stay with TDI or do I go ? Thanks for your time man, subscribed ✌
Got code P208A on my wife’s Cayenne, Porshe was going to charge 3 hours to drop and check what’s faulty, thanks to your video I dropped the tank in 45 minutes, now the fun part, I need to check wiring pump and heater… full of cristallisation everywhere…
My top tip is to buy the 1L AdBlue bottle from VW/Audi and cut the bottom off. Use that as your funnel. It has a check valve built into the head that screws on so you can't overflow your tank.
This is awesome. Got a 2015 TDI that I bought from Copart, so it's not under warranty. But doing it myself also means they won't neuter my car with the ECM mod that they're supposed to do.
Great video again Charles 👌. Always informative and fun to watch. I always take away a new word from each of your videos, “glurble” was the pick from this one 😄. Good work my dude 🤙
I don't suppose you know if the TPMS module has any wiring associated with the connectors you highlight @ 5:20 - have intermittent power to the module and have discounted fuses so now musing high resistance or dislocated pin in a plug but can't think where to start looking...
As a farmer and a farm machinery mechanic theese AdBlue systems can be very expensive and annoying. New harvesters have AdBlue and regularly fail because harvesters sit over the winter, here in Finland we regularly see -30°c temps so freezing is common.
Thanks for posting this video! I have a 2016 TDI Touareg and one morning, I notice my exhaust tips are cloudy followed by a check engine light. I ran a scan with VCDS and there were two codes, P229F & P20EE. I pulled the DEF injector and noticed right away that the nozzle had dried DEF. I cleaned the injector, reinstalled, cleared codes and have not seen the light again. But I still get some cloudy exhaust tips, but no check engine lightMy suspicion was since the crust on the injector was disrupting the spray pattern, it kept spraying continuously while at the same time a sensor was not detecting for the correct amount of spray that it was looking for. Also, while I had the DEF injector pulled, I looked inside of the exhaust hole, It has tons of buildup inside. Have you ran into this issue? Thank you for all that you do.
I use Blue driver code reader scanner, have been getting that code past 6 months, I just keep resetting it lol. Problem is winter is here and well I am not really sure if the adblue heater works, or if it was just a sensor glitch, so I i will order the part on Amazon found it for 96.00 the main heater part. Mine is a 2014 Passat TDI.
I need to do some big maint on this one. Its going to depend on how well this video does. If it does okay, I will. If it flops, I have to commit resource to other projects. :(
Great detailed explanation on this job! I did tackle this last weekend and went very well however I now have an add Adblue message that started and stated 160kms till no engine start. I don’t have VCDS however would a scr reset fix this issue?
Awesome vid. I didn’t get the check engine light but the “low ad blue” message. After adding this time around the message didn’t clear on the dash. Would this mean a sensor in the tank went bad? And if so can that be replaced or better off replacing the whole tank? Thanks in advance to anyone with some insight.
I miss my '15 but traded it when I needed space for 3 car seats. It also coincided with the odometer hitting 119,000 miles. I ended up with a crew cab 5.0 f150 and thought I would miss the mpg but now it's actually cheaper to fill a 36 gallon tank with gas than the 26 gallon diesel tank and has the same 600+ mile range.
I have a Tiguan MKII 2.0 TDI Engine EA-288 2019 with AdBlue tank, I was told that AdBlue should NOT be in the tank more than 2 years, if that was the case the tank should be drained. Can I drain the tank by myself or should I take it to the dealer (there’s a discharge valve that I can use)?
QUESTION. Adblue light came on at 1500 miles. Check engine light come on 2 days later and I figured the adblue was the reason for the code. Filled DEF at 1000 miles with 2.5 gallons and figured this would also clear the code. Adblue still says to refuel and check engine light still on does this mean I need to replace the entire unit?
HB= is it worth rebuilding a 957 cayenne VR6? I think its the 32v option. I would like more HP out of it if possible. Cayenne is paid off, just wondering what you advise?
Has your Touareg needed the manual regen? My 2012 Touareg tdi was in limp mode and the only resolution the dealer had was the manual regen covered under the warranty.
I had the NOx sensor and reductant tank sensor replaced by VW service (Under warranty) on a CKRA Passat 2013. Got the car back from the shop and as we left, the ABS system started barking. took it back to VW and they said the pump needs to be replaced ($4500). ABS was working just fine before. I've seen a video where you run out of AdPiss and it locks the system down, the ABS starts going off, even after resetting the SCR lock. Something is going on here and i've tried to trouble shoot the issue (wheel speed sensors are working as I see them thru VCDS). Don't knmow what to do other than replace ABS pump and control module and recode it.
i got a 2019 tiguan r line mk2 i believe and it has engine light when it was checked it said something ad blue heater fault . how much does it cost to repair that in the garage ?
Hey . I have a 2107 vw amarok pick up truck . Some times the fuel gauge stop working and the needle goes all the way down , and the low fuel light doesn't turn on , distance to empty says - - - instead of 0 . I turn the key off and then turn on and the gauge works again and the distance to empty says the number . No fault code showing. Do you have any idea what can it be ? Thanks !!! Great vids !!!
Great video as usual, however according to my local Volkswagen dealer in Salt Lake City you can not use any other AdBlue but the original one they sell. A very close friend of mine got a bad experience with that. He was buying the fluid at "Costco" thinking all fluids are the same. Then he got a check engine light on for bad quality of the DEF and not ODIS, vcds or any other tools were able to turn off the check engine light. My friend went to the dealership since it's under warranty and apparently they have a way to test the fluid and told him they won't cover this repair. He ended up draining the non original fluid out and filled with the original AdBlue fluid and the error actually cleared itself immediately after. Since then I only buy the original one and keep the receipts so if that happens to me, they can not play the same game. I know I can get free refills until the extended warranty expires, but they told me 1.5-2 hours wait time, so I just buy it. They will use any little thing to deny warranty work and I am not giving them any chance to win. Just my opinion (experience) and hopefully more people will be aware of this now. Keep up the good work mang!
@@HumbleMechanic, unfortunately for him they documented that he was using non oem fluid and even call to Volkswagen of America didn't helped. The fluid in question was exactly the same as yours, widely available at Costco, gas stations and car parts stores. It's very hard to fight the big corporation and in his case was totally not worth it. Just don't give them a chance to play you when it's in your control, have a great one!
I agree with@@HumbleMechanic you don’t need to go to the dealer to buy their AdBlue. The required spec is 33% checked with a spectrometer. That is what the VW system is looking for when it does it’s quality check. Some places in the UK have been found to be watering the fluid down to improve their profit margins, but it just results in an error code and probably an expensive bill if it is still under warranty. To be safe, make sure you buy a good quality brand in a sealed container from a recognised petrol station or parts supplier and you will be fine. Look at the spec number on the side of a VW AdBlue bottle and match it to the spec you want to buy. After all, Volkswagen Group (VAG) don’t make the fluid themselves, someone else does.
Agree with everything, however having lived in several large cities, SLC, hands down has the worst VW Dealer service network. Humble Mechanic has helped me circumvent these sorry excuses for dealer service.
How come you did'nt use your homemade DEF funnel jug? i made one for my old Sprinter after watching that video. Don't need it now since I've upgraded to a Man TGL 8.220 servicetruck.

New subscriber! Thanks for the video content you add! Quick 2022 Golf R question for you...do you know the location of the Harmon Kardon factor amp in the new Golf R?
Are Xemodex DEF system repair parts worth it? 10:59 I'm thinking about how many fuel pumps that tool must be effective on. It might pay off for the professional to own one.
How about the level sending unit for the DEF. is that apart of this "repair kit" as well? i have the issue where the tank is full yet it thninks its empty... been debating on getting the 3C0 sensor or this unit to remedy the situation. riding around with a laptop to reset the scr lockout is getting kind of annoying haha.
I had no idea this technology existed in tdi's, very interesting. What is your opinion on sencond hand vw's, tdi vs tsi models, from a reliability and longevity point of view? Are there any partcular models/engines in the last 5-8 years that you would especially recommend from a reliability point of view etc. Particularly interested in the golf, jetta and tiguan models. Thanks again for you videos Charles.
I've had a golf TDI for the last 3 years and 50k miles (for a total of 100k miles). Never done anything except routine oil and filter changes (oil plus fuel). I also do a fuel additive every 5k to keep the injectors healthy since diesel quality in the states isn't all that great, and often times have a larger than spec'd % of biodiesel. Engines are rock solid but the emissions systems are always the first thing to have issues (fingers crossed nothing yet). I love it I average 41-45 to the gallon spring through fall with a lot of 75+ mph driving. Worth the extra dollar per gallon IMO.
Charles, engine shoud be running or not during OBDEleven scan? Some say turn on the electics (MMI, speakers, dashboard) but dont actually run the engine. Others say for full picture have the engine running while scanning with OBDEleven. Help :(
Check out Dark Side Developments channel. They are out of UK. These V12 TDIs were way more popular in Europe. Sick engines but you would have to be nuts to own one, or really stinking rich.
KNOWLEDGEABLE HumbleMechanic Tutorial brilliant video amazing footage 👏 👍👌 Thank you very much helpful information video HumbleMechanic From Nick Ayivor from London England UK 🇬🇧
I'm assuming you get this constantly, but I have an 09 Jetta TDI just off warranty. I'd love to see a video of you doing a delete. For off-road use only, of course!
I have one for you. My AdBlue counter keeps counting down even though I refilled it. I've seen online to replace the AdBlue module, but I am not getting any codes. I see on the illustrated parts catalog (whatever it'scalledIam an aircraft mechanic). I see an AdBlue level sensorP/N 3C0906651. Should I try replacing it first? I will have to make a video if so because no one has yet and youtube has helped me out so often.
My adblue dash count is stuck on 4500 , wont go lower or higher even when I've added to the adblue tank , any advise on how to do a reset or how to do a sensor change
Was this ever answered? Mines is doing that right now! The ad blue def fluid is full in the place where we’re supposed to put it but this dumb ass car is saying it’s not and I know it is! It’s saying if I turn my car off the engine won’t start again
Hi Charles my experience is with mk4 tdi, but my wife wants something bigger she found a 2011 audi q7 tdi and I was wondering if that's a good car. Hoe does it compare longevity wise to an alh. I know it's hard to beat the 1.9 just trying to get an idea how good of a car it is
There few vw in uk first time you refill it the sensors dies . It not to occur if garage dose it but at home user seem to set it of. Has put me off upgrading. Far im concerned you only need air con dsg and upgrade alpine media player. Every thing else on offer is a waste of time
This video gave me PTSD from doing the fuel pump on my old MKIII Jetta. Trying to get the ring off was 🤬🤬, but getting the main section of that fuel pump to lock into the bottom of the tank was 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬. All done with the tank still in the car because removing it looked like way more work, lol.
Dear mr humble. I have a mk6 gti sitting in my driveway rotting away bc i have no clue whats wrong with it. I was told the engine has no compression. Got one laying around? I miss my baby. I need her back in the road
So many of you guys have been asking about TDI stuff. Hopefully this video is helpful and does well. That is the biggest motivator LOL
I did not know they actually sold Diesels in the US. For the Touareg a 3.0 or even better 4.2TDI is the best engine anyway.
TDI content always appreciated. 👍
@@lukasmeyer1992 WE never got the 4.2 TDI! but the 3.0 is pretty solid!

Got a reductant heater code on a diesel Transit 250. Same repair, but only takes 1.7 hours, because big-ass work van.
Any chance you have any info on the Passat TDI, with the same code?
How about the level sending unit for the DEF. is that apart of this "repair kit" as well? i have the issue where the tank is full yet it thninks its empty... been debating on getting the 3C0 sensor or this unit to remedy the situation. riding around with a laptop to reset the scr lockout is getting kind of annoying haha.
I’m glad you posted this video. It only pays 2 hours and I’d rather not do all that!!
I foresee a lot of these dieselgate TDI’s becoming “off-road” vehicles once they’re out of warranty
I sure hope
Does Malone stage2 tune will turn this cel off? I am just out of warranty and probably will go that route instead of fixing it
I’d confirm with them, but I think I may
Had this done under warranty a few months ago and it failed again but now I'm over 150,000 will the part have warrenty?
Help :(
I always like battery maintainer on with car not running.
Car running is okay too.
If you’re doing the deep scan of all MVB car running
Where did you get the fuel pump tool ? Its wicked
If I were to delete this would I need a tune? Wouldn’t it be better overall … off-road of course
If we continue driving with this fault code active, what could happen? Vehicle immobilization, premature failure of the exhaust/emissions systems?
Start lockout is possible as the system gets all confused. Or nothing may happen.
@jeorgelowpez2069 so what end up happening?
How much would this job cost at the dealership?
Would LOVE to see thoughts on v12 TDI
I’ve never seen a v12. We had the v10 in the US A while ago.
Check out Dark Side Developments channel. They are out of UK. These V12 TDIs were way more popular in Europe. Sick engines but you would have to be nuts to own one, or really stinking rich.

Tutorial brilliant video amazing footage 👏 👍👌 Thank you very much helpful information video HumbleMechanic
From Nick Ayivor from London England UK 🇬🇧
dumb question time! why the WD before disconnecting the cables?
Helps lube them up to make it easier
spreading lube on connectors - need a note, what kind of lube, otherwise people may damage wires/pins
I'm assuming you get this constantly, but I have an 09 Jetta TDI just off warranty. I'd love to see a video of you doing a delete. For off-road use only, of course!
Lol I am not sure I’m willing to put my out there for the epa to rail me
@@HumbleMechanic the gubment wouldn't go after the little guy, would they?!
I don’t think so. But those rollin coal fools kinda wrecked it for everyone
@@HumbleMechanic no doubt!
Is this the same process as a 13 Porsche cayenne?
I had 2 of these fail in a 5 year period on my 2012 TDI Touareg.....there was a RECALL FYI and they should replace.
...and of course, you explained it and I commented before watching the whole video! #yeahinternet
Bahhahaha
That tool is awesome
Hi Charles my experience is with mk4 tdi, but my wife wants something bigger she found a 2011 audi q7 tdi and I was wondering if that's a good car. Hoe does it compare longevity wise to an alh. I know it's hard to beat the 1.9 just trying to get an idea how good of a car it is
Next question, is this header on national backorder like it is for heavy duty vehicles.
My vw touareg tdi just failed but is it hard to delete
Great video! I love the content!
There few vw in uk first time you refill it the sensors dies . It not to occur if garage dose it but at home user seem to set it of. Has put me off upgrading. Far im concerned you only need air con dsg and upgrade alpine media player. Every thing else on offer is a waste of time
who makes this 9:45 hex socket set?
Dear Volkswagen, why couldn't you just add a top access point in the trunk above the ad blue tank 🙄. Digging into mine this weekend
4:08 if only i can have many Charles working on my Mk7R during mods and servicing.
I have changed thouse on porsches many times.
The only fluid that's in my spare tire well is rain water 😅
This video gave me PTSD from doing the fuel pump on my old MKIII Jetta. Trying to get the ring off was 🤬🤬, but getting the main section of that fuel pump to lock into the bottom of the tank was 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬. All done with the tank still in the car because removing it looked like way more work, lol.
Yes.. I as well would never delete my DEF, DPF or EGR and then tune it for better milage. Nope, no sir! 🤔
Dear mr humble. I have a mk6 gti sitting in my driveway rotting away bc i have no clue whats wrong with it. I was told the engine has no compression. Got one laying around? I miss my baby. I need her back in the road
Holy crap is that a brand new exhaust or do cars in the south really look like that past a few years???
It’s a southern car for sure. 2015 :)
I would like more touarer videos, but I have a 2014 gas, not TDI.
What's it smell like? My TDI never had that
Hi i need the link to that tool that pull the tank cover please
