Garrett I am so very sorry to hear. That special connection is sometimes irreplaceable. You are such a devoted dad. I will have to go through this soon with my 14 year old cocker spaniel who has raised my daughter with me. As a single mom I could not have done it without her. When they change that much its better not to wait. We are never prepared for the inevitable sometimes but he was loved and he knew it.
I am so sad for your loss. This happened to me with my Yorkie. She was gone in four days. It is harder I think than loosing a human. 😢

Oh Garrett, I am so very sorry. Losing a beloved dog is devastating under any circumstance, but unexpectedly like this is soul crushing. A wise friend told me when I lost my beloved dachshund and my heart was utterly broken, that when the time was right Rosie would send me the perfect dog to take her place. And she did. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that we will all be reunited with our pets in Heaven. Knowing you did everything possible and that Linus had a wonderful life will, hopefully, give you and your husband some peace.

Dear Garrett,
it says so much about you that you share your grief and your tears with us. And just look at all the comments expressing deep empathy and understanding. Everyone who has ever had a pet understands you so well, because the amount of love you feel for such a lovely creature is just enormous.
I have always described my poodle Willi as the centre of our family life when I was a child. Garrett, I am now 54 years old and I still regard him as the centre of my childhood and even if he died 30 years ago, he is still in my heart and a part of myself.
We all understand you so very well and hopefully this is a little comfort for you and your husband. Do you feel all the hugs from all over the world? We are with you.
