Don’t forge you can’t run full court, you can’t pass full court, you have to stand 3 feet away from the person with the ball, when you go out of bounds you get the ball back, & you have to shoot inside the line where they some how don’t shoot 100%

No, you're allowed to stand three feet or more away. Any closer is an obstruction. If they are standing by their side it's because they've been pulled up for an obstruction and the shooter is allowed to shoot with only the other defender to guard her.

i think people need to stop comparing netball with other sports and talk lowly about it. it is A Sport and like any other sport, we respect it. I have played Netball for 10 years and i think like any other sport, there will b moments that are tough and are trained with sometimes blood, sweat and tears.

We may have lost, But we can hold our heads high, cause The Silver Ferns are hearty, they get fantastic support from All New Zealanders, and also GREAT media coverage, ie T V and newspapers and also awesome sponsorship. So heads up Silver Ferns. Oh and just off the record, we are still 7's champs and we did'nt loose a game at the soccer world cup :D
If you read the very first, original set of rules for Naismith's 'Basketball' you'll realise that it is in fact nearer to what we now call netball. Dribbling came later - it was physically impossible to dribble because balls were hand made and irregular. If you stop to put down the McD burger & read some history you'll also realise Naismith was technically a British subject. It's funny how nations re-write history isn't it? :)

There is no defense on shots? All you have to do is get the ball near the net? This looks really dumb
You can either intercept when the feed into the circle is put in, or block from a metre where the player's at by timing. You can also force a held ball (possession of the ball for more than 3 seconds) by leaning and stall the player's shot. Watch Laura Geitz highlights or Geva Mentor highlights to fully understand what you can do in defense.

I’m looking at the comments and I’m like wtf. This is netball not basketball, not ultimate frisbee, not lacrosse or anything. Netball has their own rules just like any other sport. Everyone is judging by what they see, it isn’t as easy as it looks. I know everyone has their own opinion on it, but please do realise that a lot of people play this sport, it’s very popular in Australia and many other places.

I'm sorry I tried to be open minded about this game but this is literally basketball without running while in control of the ball and no longer range shots looks quite simple not a whole lot of skill involved besides the shooting only because the absence of a backboard. I think the hardest thing about this game is remembering the rules since I've never heard or played this game

They aren't completely different they are very similar. Same with football and rugby. Football emerged from rugby and basketball emerged from netball. While the rules are different it's literally the same concept and takes almost the same athletic qualities

There is nothing as nerve wracking as an Australia V New Zealand Test in Netball.
I just drove past the local netball courts where I live, and there are 20 courts, side by side. on one huge concrete pad. And the games go from early morning till mid afternoon. Very popular sport for girls throughout Australia and NZ

@athleticguyUK Rugby is not that similar to American football. The difference is more than just the use of pads. If you think football and rugby are the essentially the same then you probably think that cricket and baseball are essentially the same too, even though they are not.

@Tarklovishki I don't think a comparison to basketball is possible there in that sense, since a basketball player with the ball wouldn't just stand next to a defender like that and shoot and if they did, the defender would actually jump up to block the ball directly.

Can anyone explain why everything ive read says the players should not be goalside in defence but this is how these girls are defending about 85% of the time ? My daughter is playing and when she defends she is not goalside and her opposite simply loses her for an easy pass ? Shes only 12 but i would like to help her . Any tips ladies
I almost cried at 14:48. Makes me so sad that the girls couldnt win it for players like George and Van Dyk. I just wana give them a big hug for thier effort:). They deserved to go out with a win.I highly doubt they will be around in 2015. Players like Catherine Latu will have to step it up if she wants to fill th shoes of Van Dyk. Shes not as good as Van dyk but shes still young and will improve more.
This is ultimate frisbee basketball played with a soccer ball. Ultimate frisbee style anything is the least athletic vision of everything. The biggest scrubs fiended when we played that in PE.

Part 1/3: Why all the hate on netball? If you hate it so much, why watch a video on it and post hateful comments? Fine that everyone is entitled to theiropinion, but that behaviour tells me that you are simply seeking attention and need to find something better to do with your time. Comparing netball to basketball is like comparing baseball to cricket (And I mean looking at this objectively, not saying basketball is on the same level as Cricket since so many people seem to hate that as well)....
Part 2/3: "Cricket is stupid because there is two batters on at once, not like Baseball" or "Baseball is retarded because you have to run over four bases, not like Cricket". These mean nothing because they are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SPORTS. So, those points concerning netball and basketball are completely moot. In my opinion, Netball requires a lot more strategy and teamwork because it is not a sport that can be dominated by one person.....

This is the first time i know about this game and it seems pretty interesting to me and I'm a huge basketball fan.
The idea of not being able to move with the ball in your hands makes they move in a really cool way and seems to be a very strategical game.
The only thing i dislike (i don't know the rules) is about the game stoping so often just when they're getting close to the basket...
Oh no! Something different from what I'm used to! You can't do all the things that my favorite sport can do and some of the things that you can do are different from what I normally see and I don't really understand them. This scares and confuses me so I'm going to just call it a stupid sport and continue living my life in ignorance.
I'm American, and 30 minutes ago is the first time I ever even heard of Netball. It looks pretty decent and no more stupid than any other sport.
@sexxiiBACK Actually paintball probably takes more skill than paintball and is actually a very fun sport im guessing that you have never played before. I think its harder to dodge 12.5 paintballs a second than throwing a ball into the net but i have found a dumber sport than netball tho....curling but its all a personal preference didnt mean to make anyone mad but try paintball its actually really fun and i guess netballs not that dumb giving that there is a pro arm wrestling league.
