i love haggertys guarded elbows - see how he locks his arms to his head whe hes guarding and uses his body to torque the elbows forward. very very functional - he uses his whole body weight to stab at and pierce through ones guard. the attack kind of moulds your body into a hammer - the locked, forward pointed elbows with hands locked on the head uses the legs and core as it primary power. this is why it can break down and through guards.
however we did see rodtang negate this attack by simply clinching onto haggerty's forearms. like stopping an ox by the horns. simple counter but effective. nonetheless still a very effective and signature move of haggerty's. i think haggerty's shelled elbow style would be very effective if he adapted it with a thai clinch style. though i must say he has demonstrated a great improvement in his clinch as displayed with his recent bout with mongkolpetch. he had sublime redirection work.
