I think a society where people give up their individual self to be part of a hive mind is doomed to fail. And while I like the detail that went into Pandora I do see flaws in the story. I never really created a sentient world. The most I’ve done is try to work in a god who oversees the world. So how does the Matrix fail to qualify for example # 4?
ooooh, the matrix is a great match. And framing it from the perspective of the AI's life when it's connected to the planet so intensely creates some interesting questions about the nature of life :D
#4 - Maybe Dune? Not exactly a world but the Kwisatz Haderach unlocks ancestral memories. And I also assumed that in Avatar's Pandora, the Navi connect to the sacred tree to access ancestral memories or consciousness.
It could make for an interesting setup, depending on what the people are protecting the planet from. If it’s warriors protecting from warriors…. 😂 that’s just feudalism 🤭😂
Hmmmm... This makes me wonder if I should try and give my current world some level of sentience. The magic system I've been putting together is rooted in the concept of animism, the idea that everything, even things that aren't alive in the traditional/scientific sense, has a soul. With that in mind, it could make sense for the planet on which the story takes place would have some sort of sentience, although I'd have to think for a while about what that might look like.
It's always worth considering, even if you don't implement it. It might spark some good ideas in a sideways manner. And thinking doesn't cost anything :)
I don't know if we would miss the concept of privacy if we were born into Gaia, but the moment that power was abused it would likely come into question.
