Ears are extremely interesting to learn about. They're just basically convert vibrations into stimuli your brain can understand. We don't even really know what we're hearing either a lot of it is made up.
We also hear at a delay, I can't remember the exact timing, but my teacher explained it as drummers and musicians actually have to play a step ahead of sound to keep in beat.
Judging by the cochlea(hearing) and vestibule(balance) it looks like balance was around first in many mammals and animals, but the ability to hear was evolved differently. Some backpacking the same evolution from their balancing organ and others finding completely new ways to detect vibrations and sound.

It's nearly impossible to make them go extinct. They will be aound until the end of times like roaches and mosquitoes.

Sharks are huge, hostile and cartilaginous fish which looks scary and are carnivorous, which means they only eat meat. Sometimes, the sharks can attack human beings. However, the whale is there to eat up the sharks in order to protect human beings and control them from overpopulation. If all the whales went extinct, there would be a major surplus and exponential overpopulation to the sharks as the whale is the shark's natural predator which might sounds really scary. Fortunately, it's unlikely that the sharks would overpopulate because humans also poach the sharks down.
