@@RidiculousRic It's my pleasure Ric. All of us "old schoolers" really enjoy watching the younger generations get into this amazing music. Have a good one man and enjoy the ride. P.S. not sure if you've done it yet but Red Barchetta and Freewill ( the studio versions) are beyond amazing. Enjoy!
IIRC this was the first show Rush ever did in Brazil, so allot of lifelong Rush fans got a chance to hear them live for the first time in 25 years. so that explains all the hype lol
It's pretty much the same as the studio version, but with more flair and heart from Rush and the undeniable crowd energy they are feeding off of. But you certainly can't go wrong jamming to the studio version with it's clarity, while cruising down the boulevard.
I remember reading something Neil wrote about this show, the three of them were up there going “oh my god….they’re singing the riffs.” As a musician, I can’t imagine how rewarding that would feel
Rush has been my favorite band since I was 12 in 1979, so I'd suggest any of their songs. If you want to see another crowd going crazy, "Freebird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd live in Oakland in 1977. Epic.
Congrats on 500 subs! This is such a fun song, and I almost always prefer watching live Rush performances to studio cuts, as the live versions really let you see their technical mastery in bringing these songs to life (most of them area pretty close to the studio version). Another great live performance I suggest you check out is 'Between the Wheels' live from the R30 tour. This song is dark and intense, especially Alex's guitar solo. The song is from the 80s 'synth era' but it's very heavy in concert.
@@sarastromseth-troy3323 thank you so much for the constant support, happy to see you back in the comments again:) this is a fun song, especially live with the phenomenal crowd interaction! Geddy Lee inspired me to pick up a bass way back in 1980. Fortunately got to see them three times. Glad you’re enjoying this incredible trio of musical masters. Rush is a huge fav. In Brazil. The show McGuyver, when showed down there, they replaced the intro of the show with Tom Sawyer. When Rush toured there, it was their 1st time and had no idea how much they were loved down there. They apologized out their ass.
I told you the crowd made this version worth watching. There are other live versions that are better ‘sonically’, but the crowd makes this version worth it.
The off-time opening riff is actually morse code for YYZ, the call letters for Pearson Airport in Toronto. Great tune. You need to do the entire Moving Pictures album from start to finish!
Neil came up with the idea when Alex (who is a private pilot) flew them into Toronto and he heard the morse code for YYZ on the transponder. It was originally meant to be just drums and bass but Alex heard them jamming and threw in the guitar bits. It was nominated for a Grammy but lost out to The Police's eminently forgettable Behind My Camel, a song so bad Sting tried to bury the demo in the backyard of the studio. 😂
