IIRC this was the first show Rush ever did in Brazil, so allot of lifelong Rush fans got a chance to hear them live for the first time in 25 years. so that explains all the hype lol

I remember when Alex & Neil cut their hair. We (my little group) were worried it was like their Samson cutting his hair. lol. It was before the Moving Pictures album, so it definitely was not like Samson. They were my 1st concert 1981, I was 14. My friend's brother stood in line all night to get tickets & he got us 2nd row right in front of Alex. It cost $10. One of my favorite memories.

This is a great song, and I have been listening to it since 1980. But, the best version,and a great one to review is the liv3 version from the different stages tour. Fantastic bass solo in it that crescendos beautifully with the guitar and drums, just jammin to the end.

Thanks Ric - it's hard to believe you don't have more subscribers. Rush is one of my favorites. Saw them in late '80's, early '90's and 2004. Just a great show and three cool guys. You'll love getting to know them. They have a lot of video interviews and Neil wrote several books. I read a couple, one was his journey, both literal and figurative, after his daughter and wife died 6 months apart. He drove his motorcycle by himself from Toronto, to Alaska, western US, Mexico - 6 months, I think. Ghost Rider is the title. The band was off for 2-3 years.

I remember hearing something Neil said about a picture or painting in someone's kitchen. It was an art piece that said close to the heart. It meant that people should put love into their work or endeavors. It makes sense to me. We all should have a passion for what we do.

The original drummer John Rutsey, only ever recorded the very first studio album with Rush, the self-titled debut album. I think John toured with Rush for a little bit in Canada for their debut album tour, but I could be wrong about that. As I recall them talking about it all in one of their documentaries, about the fact that they had just a few short weeks to find a new drummer and get him up to speed in time for the tour. Maybe someone else here can enlighten us as to whether they took a break from a main tour, or maybe they just had a few gigs they did before the real tour. But for their first ever tour opening for a head-lining act, they where chosen by KISS to be the opening act while KISS toured Canada, Gene Simmons saying they sounded like a Canadian Led Zeppelin, and loved them. But they got along so well with KISS and were such a great opening act, that KISS kept them for the U.S. tour as well, IIRC. In any case, it was Neil Peart that was the drummer for Rush on tour with KISS and he had exactly two weeks to learn all the songs and Rutsey's drum compositions before they hit the road. John Rutsey did play the drums on a few released singles recorded before they made their first album. And there are a few videos of Rush live performances, from their club days that do feature John Rutsey on drums.

I saw them in New Orleans, last tour for Pink Floyd, I was comfortable going into concert, and this being last song by David the greatest solo ever played, I left very.Numb. David Gilmour is lead singer, and played the greatest solo ever!!!!!!

Great reaction and analysis! Can't go wrong with Pink Floyd -- I HIGHLY recommend their 'Animals' album, done as a complete album reaction if you can manage that, my favourite PF album. Since you loved the slow build and subtle melodies of this track, I highly recommend reacting to Radiohead performing live 'In The Basement' sessions, their In Rainbows album In The Basement, Try 'Nude' and 'Weird Fishes/Arpeggi' and 'Reckoner', think you will really love these Cheers from South Australia
